Just putting it out there.. Never pay for charging battery.. Chevy dealers who sell electric cars have free charging stations.. If on road trip check chevy dealers in route or use one in ur area for free

I have owned 2 Volts and they were my favorite cars I have owned. Maintenance free, trouble free, turns on a dime, sport mode is fast, almost 0 gas used ever. After you install the 220 volt in house it only takes 4 hours for full charge. Congrats on your purchase!

I really cannot understand why this car isn’t selling well, with the 7kw onboard now using a lev2 charger irs fully charged in about 3 hours, it easily does 50 miles bev, more than enough for most commutes, and 45 mpg when it switches over far better than most that isn’t a hybrid or diesel , the boot isn’t a bad size and the looks are a big step over the mk1. It's nearly 2022 now, and there are still hard-core Volt enthusiasts, including me. We have two of them, a 2013 and a 2019 I found recently. The people who don't like Volts are those who've never driven one. They were well-designed because this was GM's first try at a mass marketed electric. They are a lot like my wife; Dependable, thrifty and low maintenance.

Congratulations. You'll love your car. I got my Volt in early 2017, and still love it. I've driven it over 20k miles, and 96% of the miles are in EV mode. However, if I were shopping today, I'd probably lean towards the Model 3 or the Bolt EV. The more you drive in EV mode, the less you ever want to rely on a gasoline engine ever again.

Have clocked 30K with mine so far. 40 miles all electric in dead of winter. 60 miles in the summer. No decrease in range over time. Great track record for minimal incidents of battery replacement needed over Generation 1 and Gen 2 cars. Gas generator kicks in automatically whenever needed, eliminates range anxiety, gets 40 mpg, adds 350 miles to range, and costs less than $20 to fill. I literally go weeks without filling up. And, the battery recharges completely overnight for less than $1. Always wondered why Chevy didn't advertise it. Seems it was a technology loss-leader. Kudos to Chevy for showing how to do the technology right, even if they didn't do the marketing right.

I have just finished up my first 2 years in my 2017 Volt and I still think, every time I get into it, “I’m glad I bought this car!” I run over 90% electric and, in the warmer months get 60 Miles on a charge (around 45 in the winter). Jeremy, you’ll be happy to know you will still be excited about your Volt in a couple of years. Thanks for the video.

I replaced my 2012 Chevy Volt with a new Tesla Model 3 I’m April 2018. I loved my Volt, but the 3 is light years more advanced. I loved staying off gas. But now I’ll never stop again for gas. Your concerns about Tesla are based on negative coverage. 1, charging at Superchargers is amazingly fast. I live in Montana, with few locations. Get to the nearest location, and in 15-20 minutes you’ve added enough range to make it to the next supercharger. With the navigation system, it tells you exactly where to stop, how long to stay to get back going. No range anxiety. 2, Tesla uses mobile service. They come to you and service your car if needed. It’s a breeze.

You step on the brake to start the car, not the "gas". I have the 2017, Great car! Should save around $1000 from buying fuel each year.

[Ricky] Great video! btw, your volt is 100% electric, in terms of powertrain. there are no couplings linking gas combustion to propulsion. you ONLY have an electric motor driving your wheels :) this is why you love the 0-30 times and all the performance because you get to drive an electric car. This is the smartest car Chevy has EVER made, because, like you said, it gives you an EV with none of the range anxiety. I love the practical real-world experience you provide!

I just bought a 2019 chevy volt with 36000km in 2022 where gas in Canada is 2.15 a litre. I got the priemer as well. The gratitude I feel to be able to get this is wild! This video makes me even more excited!!!!

Welcome to the club, Jeremy. I bought my Chevy Volt Premier 2.0 in May 2016 and love it. In the first year I went to the gas station just twice. Bought 7 gallons the first time and 8 gallons the second. In year two I drove from Southern California to the Canadian border and back. Round trip was 3000 miles and I got great mileage using gas only. I'm planning to buy a Model 3 in 2019 but will alway remember my Volt Premier. People think it's a hybrid but it is truly an electric vehicle with an ICE generator. That's why is called an EVRE (Electric Vehicle Range Extender). If you plug it in every night you'll have 50 miles of pure electric driving every morning. Good luck and enjoy.

I also a 2018 Chevy Volt Premier with driver confidence 2 and ACC but in pearl white. I really would not have bought this car had it not been for the $7500 tax credit and $1500 California rebate but this car is amazing for the price. I love this car!!! I currently have over 1300 miles and still have 2/3 of the 9 gallon gas tank I took delivery of the car with. Aside from a couple of long trips, I don't use any gas.

So simple, no electric doors, no electric charging port pannel, a functional speedometer. Basically no gimmicks

YA! Sport mode!... love it! I've got a 2017 Premier Volt. Best car I've ever owned. After 20K miles I've driven 89% in EV mode. Have used the gas generator only for trips and in the middle of winter. Enjoy! You've got a fantastic bunch of tech there.

I drive a big truck with a powerful engine, it’s expensive to put gas in it every week, I love it very much though. Witnessing a person not have to pay for gas makes me pretty envious. I will consider buying a Volt after watching your video. Thanks for converting me

I have 2015 volt. I love it. No anxiety at all. We only use it around town mostly so we have lifetime MPG of 250. Youll love it.

My lease was expiring so I cancelled my nodel 3 reservation, and bought a 2018 Chevy Volt Premier. I'm very happy with it! My sure you use the paddle to break as much as possible !

Hello, as I am new to your channel! Was just looking forward to your commentary on the Volt, BUT also was sooo happy to see you make those comments & thanking everyone in the beginning! Congrats to you & your future successes!!!!

Hi Jeremy, I have a 2017 Volt, which is essentially the same as yours, including Adaptive Cruise Control. Some pointers: Your tire pressure is way too low. Set it to at least 40 PSI cold (meaning you haven't driven it for at least 3 hours) to get better mileage. The ride will be a little rougher, but it'll roll more, which will allow you to coast and use less energy. I have mine set to 42 PSI, and routinely see 65-70 miles, depending on how leaded my foot feels that day. The stock EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment, mistakenly referred to as "the charger") that came with the Gen 2 Volts can actually charge faster if you have a 240v outlet available. You'll need to make or buy an adapter to hook into it, but you can then charge at a faster speed. It's still slightly slower than a true 240v EVSE at around 6 hours, but that beats 13-19 hours on 110v when the battery is empty. There's also a setting in the options that allows you to set a home location based on GPS. What this does is any time you park your Volt in your garage, it'll default to 12 amps, so you don't have to keep selecting it. You'll have to refresh this every 90 days when it'll ask you to re-confirm the home location. Of course, if you get a 240v EVSE, then it's moot as it'll charge at 16 amps. Some Volt owners swear by driving in L, but I came from driving a Prius, where "coasting is king for high mpg". In other words, the less energy you use to go a certain distance, the further you can go on electric, and gas. So if you can step on the gas just enough to prevent any negative numbers showing up on the kW usage, then you can coast and save quite a bit of energy. The caveat to that is you will annoy drivers behind you, so only do this if you're the last car, or no one is right behind you. If you're not rushed for time, you'll find driving the Volt at the posted speed limits to be quite enjoyable. Learn to anticipate upcoming lights. Sometimes if you're lucky, just as you get to the intersection, the light may turn green. If you didn't have to completely stop, you can get back up to speed faster. But even if you're going to have to stop, coast to it first, and brake gently. Then the closer you get, the harder you press the brake. Ideally you'll come to a stop just as you hit the intersection. If your tires are squealing when you step on the gas from a stop, you're wasting tire tread. Instead, press the gas pedal gently at first to start moving. After a second or two when you're in motion, then go ahead and jam on the gas. It's not as fast overall, but you won't have to deal with tire squeal, and unless the guy next to you is "racing" you in a big SUV/truck or sports car, you can easily take the lead. Useful if the lanes will merge ahead and everyone else is in the lane that's not closing in anticipation for it. You should do some videos on apple carplay or android auto, whichever phone you have. It's kind of nice having Google maps on the center dash, and asking google questions like "where am I" or "how far away is "x-city" from here?" or "what's the weather forecast for today?" Android Auto also has Waze integration, and I heard Apple will incorporate it sometime in the fall. You could also do a quick video where the Volt runs out of electricity and switches over to gas, so people can see how seamless the transition is. You can also show a video of hold and mountain mode being used. Oh yeah, get a voltscreen while you're at it. It's a small metal grille that you place in front of the lower grille at the front of the Volt to protect it from bigger rocks sneaking in and puncturing the radiator. It can be a really expensive fix if that happens. And if you're looking for something sturdier that'll hide stuff in your trunk, consider the voltshelf as well. It's pricey, but well worth it for the security and it helps absorb some of road noise, along with making your climate control work better because there's less area in the cabin to heat up/cool down.

Owner of a 2017 Volt LT and it has lived up to all it was advertised to do. No maintenance issues, 90% of my driving is on the battery, it really does get 53 miles on a full charge and it’s a great driving car! The gas generator is relatively quiet when it comes on and I get 42 mpg all day long when it runs. This is a real world car, no charge worries or extended refuel stops on trips. 8700 miles and only $91 spent on gas!

Jeremy, I agree 100% - I have the 2017 Volt, and it's a _very_ cool car in many ways. My lifetime average is 225mpg, because I almost never used gas. I'm solar at home and I have a level 2 charger in my garage, so if I plug it in at home, it's charged in a bit over 4 hours. I also have EV chargers at work, so between these and the various public EV chargers (many of them free), I would go for 3-4 months without using any gas at all. All of this being said, I got the Model 3 a bit over a month ago and am now selling the Volt. One thing about electric vehicles, at least from my experience, is that the more one drives them, the more one wants to stay on battery power. The generator in the Volt usually makes very little noise (unless it's on and you're accelerating heavily, then it sounds like any normal car engine), but whenever it came on, I longed for more battery range. Even though I have the Model 3 now, I still think the Volt is a very nice car (and it actually does a few things the Model 3 doesn't yet do). I'm a big advocate of EVs - Volts, Bolts, Teslas, Primes, Leafs - all of them. Congratulations on your Volt - I suspect you'll love it as much as I did :-) Regards, John

I think I would get something like the Volt if I were to buy an electric car today. Your long trip points are extremely valid. If we wanted to go to the Outer Banks with a Tesla, we'd have to stop at least once (hoping a charging station is somewhere near the halfway point) and sit for an hour and wait for it to charge. That'd be extremely annoying.

I got the Tesla Model 3, but the Volt is a good choice if you're not ready to go full electric yet. The infrastructure to make it more convenient to own an all electric car is not quite there yet, so the Volt is a better choice for some people. Congrats on the car!

Great video. I have a 16 premier. With a level 2 charger. Charges in 4 hours. During city driving I have got 62 miles with liberal amounts of regen breaking. I love this car. It can go over 30k miles without an oil change. Never need to change the break pads and still get close to 50mpg on gas.

Model 3 owner here. Came from an Avolon hybrid getting 44 - 47 mpg. Totally respect your decision and the Volt is a great car. There were two things that aren't 100% correct. 1st - You should be able to order a Tesla up until November 30 2018 and they will deliver before the end of the year, getting the full 7500 rebate. 2nd - on a road trip no one would charge to 100% with a super charger. It is more efficient to charge for 20 to 40 minutes. The closer you are to full the slower the charge gets. Best to make two stops for breakfast and lunch then charge at your hotel over night. Otherwise great video and great car. If your ever heading up to the Northeast we can road trip. Cheers!

I had my 2017 Volt for 3 years and I was extremely happy with it too. I use sports mode full time also, and still get up to 60 miles range, since 95% of the driving time I drive at normal speed. But It sure feels good to once in a while blast out of a traffic light SILENTLY, leaving the rest behind. So far nobody got offended because it was so quiet. After seeing your video, I will try the L mode. 4 months ago I got a Tesla M3P, much faster and a nicer ride, but I still drive the Volt more than half the time.

I’m also looking at the Volt. How much did you end up paying for it? Is public charging free or does it depend?

Until the day comes when you can walk into a Tesla dealer and purchase whatever new parts you want they are no better than Apple. They are going to lock you in and take your for a ride.

Congrats on your new car! I love my Volt as well ( I have a 2016.) You show the window sticker, but you didn't pay sticker price did you? One thing you didn't mention was that you can bargain with the Chevy dealer. No such thing with Tesla, you pay what they want you to pay. Another great feature which I use almost daily is shifting the car into L to maximize regen when you lift off the accelerator pedal. Between this and the regen paddle, this allows you to one-pedal drive in stop-and-go traffic.

I had always wanted a Volt from when they first came out but was out of my price range when new. To me the Volt uses the best "hybrid" system by being all-electric powered and having the gas motor for longer range. Last fall my girlfriend needed to replace her Dodge Magnum and I had just sold my 2004 VW Golf TDI and we found a 2014 just coming off lease, with 40,000 miles for $14,500 in mint condition which was a great deal. She compared Mazda 6, the new Camry, Honda Civic and she fell in love with the volt which I never thought she would because she is not into technology. She drives 120 miles daily for work and driving from Ohio to Florida and back, sometimes at continuous speeds of 90 mph , still averaged 40 mpg and normally around 42 for 70 mph sections. The biggest thing people will notice is the car is super quiet and feels solid. Not tinny and noisy like a Prius or other hybrids. We love ours and want to encourage anyone considering a Volt to drive it before making a decision.... You will be impressed when you compare.

I love my 2015 for the same reasons. There are no charging stations in Alaska and I drive 90 miles round trip to work. Anchorage to Fairbanks is over 300 miles. I can drive that with the Volt.

I absolutely LOVE my 2013 Volt - I haven't had a mechanical issue yet with this car at 88,000+ miles. My commutes are usually less than 40 miles, so I use very little petrol in general. I like the style of the new Volt and added range and being able to use regular unleaded, however don't like the lack of the integrated HomeLink garage door/gate opener (WHY Chevy??) and incandescent bulbs on a very tech car!

I have a friend who owns this Volt and a Prius. You might be surprised, but he is getting rid of the Prius. Why? Because in the snow on the mountain with snow tires, the Volt gets up his mountain with no problem. With the Prius, the transmission shuts down on the traction control to protect the transmission, and the car tends to slide back down the mountain until the brakes can stop skidding. A disadvantage most won't be concerned about, but it is real.

And then you bought a Tesla 10 months later lol

Leather seats are not an upgrade in any car. leather seats are a downgrade. Leather seats are not comfortable in heat or in cold even if you have heated seats or cooled seats. And they are not more durable. up to the late 90's a person could by a car with premium cloth seats that were much more comfortable and durable than any leather seat. Leather seats are a marketing ploy by manufacturers to create a perception of luxury, since a lot of European a cars came with leather seats. But if a person considers comfort as the ultimate luxury then car manufacturers need to bring back premium cloth seats which they are now starting to do.

How long does it take to charge at a charging station? Also, for the App, do you have to pay for that? I know with the 2011, you had to pay for it at the beginning, just wondering if there is a long term payment.

Thinking about getting one of these someday soon! I would like to see a grocery getting/hauling stuff vid, to see how it can be loaded and it's versatility.

Great video. Please do another video on the safety features. Like does it have adaptive cruise control? How well does the lane assist work? Blind spot warnings. All of those cool safety features would be great to know. Turning on notifications for your next Volt update.

Nothing compared to model 3, but not a bad car

A few other comments after hearing more of your video. 1) Charging time for Tesla: You hardly ever use a Supercharger. Only on inter-city travel. You charge mostly in your garage. After driving for 4 hours plus, I usually need a bathroom break and a bite to eat. After doing that, the car is full. So, I don’t notice much, if any, loss of time when traveling long distance. 2) Service for Tesla: I only go in for annual maintenance. Which really isn’t necessary. Other issues (burnt out charge ring light; check for seat belt proper installation), a Tesla “Ranger” (service tech) did them at my home and at my work respectively. No inconvenience. 3) Chevy Volt Gas Fill-Ups - Even with a 40 mile round-trip commute, which was at the advertised limit of the 1st gen Volt’s EV Range, I would go 5,000 miles+ between gas fill-ups. You read that right. Over 5,000 miles! I’d regularly get 44-45 miles on electric, which meant I used NO gas for work! 4) If you want a GREAT car that is cheap to operate, and drives like a dream, look for a used Chevy Volt. Chances are, the gas generator engine has 1/2 or less of the miles on it than the car itself does. That means you will have PLENTY of future miles to go with a used Volt. Plus, the asking price is usually pretty cheap (

Grats on the new car! Volts are great cars. My parents had one but I decided to save up an extra year and get the Model 3. Be aware though unless things have changed in the newer models, the Volt will use some gasoline every so often just to make sure the engine stays healthy and it will use like 1/10 of a gallon per test, so you'll still have to go get some gas every 10 months or so even driving only in EV mode.

I’m into tech and have two Teslas. I refuse to support GM for multiple reasons such as killing the EV1, they went bankrupt due to poor management, etc. The Volt isn’t that bad of a car honestly but it’s really not comparable to a Tesla.

Bro...I own a 12' Blacked out Cyber Grey on Rims with other mods...I share you love for the Volt. It really is so much better than any car I have driven. American Reliability is on point. I have owned a e320, clk430, clk55, s500, and than I decided to open my eyes and see the future. I am saving up for a Model S right now but my father bought a 17' Volt and it is def a step up from Gen 1.

Chevy has ZERO Superchargers and destination chargers, you cant charge at a Chevy VOLT owners house with Plugshare partnership, but TESLA can charge @ TESLA owner home. Solar Roof, Home Battery and Chargepoint most efficient setup, Home Battery charges car faster, you can also use 3rd Phase charge point for faster HOME charging. After viewing some of the other videos of other users and their interactions with Tesla vehicles, I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that a person can out right own a vehicle, yet, the manufacturer has the right to turn that vehicle off anytime they want. Tesla can even keep you from charging at the supercharging stations. So who really owns the vehicle? I have a 2015 Chevy Volt that I purchased one year old. It is the coolest car I have ever owned, so I share your excitement. They are awesome cars and they’re the best of both worlds.
