Hi Jeremy. Twenty two years ago I walked a similar path. I wanted a Martin HD-28 but the price was so prohibitive at the time. Well…I became friends with a man in my wife’s hometown that owned a guitar shop and built his own instruments. He said “why not order everything from Martin and build it yourself?” I didn’t know that was an option. It was, so we did the order specifying the HD-28 materials. When it arrived my wife said “it’s just a bunch of wood pieces” “This should be an experience “ ;-) She was right. It was an experience. That is what I paid for. It wasn’t so much the guitar, which I still play every day, but the whole experience from beginning to end. With his supervision, patience and a lot of booboos by me , we made it to the end . I can point out every little thing I could have done better but Wow! The experience is what I really would not trade for anything. My wife now says that the guitar is to never be sold and when my time comes to shuffle off this mortal coil, she will be keeping it. Enjoy this experience, it will be worth it.

If your wondering whether woods like sycamore, osage orange, and other local woods sound any good.....wonder no more. I personally visited their showroom 2 days ago. Steve Showalter is on to something special. These guitars are not only made beautifully where the necks plays like butter.....they also have great acoustic volume and have that snappy quality only found on certain high end acoustics. Treat yourself to checking these out if you can. This whole series is really good. Thanks to Jeremy for this awesome educational series. I am vacationing in the valley with Showalter half hour away. Emailed an appointment. Joyce was great allowing me to try out guitars in showroom. Was also able to go in the shop and talk to Steve. Great experience. Would have loved to meet Jeremy but he was in Nashville. A ton of thanks to Steve, Joyce, and Jeremy

Alright, now I'm just jealous. This is going to be absolutely incredible. It's one of my dreams to build my own acoustic guitar as well. This sounds like it's going to be incredible, and I'm excited to watch the building process. You've got me hooked for awhile.

@@showalterguitars5707 Hi Steve: Right now I'm not sure the budget would allow it, but I will definitely keep you in mind if this becomes an opportunity that I can do a class. And you're half a country away.

I had a local luthier build me a custom 12 fret dreadnaught guitar. Mahogany body and Adirondack spruce top, ebony fretboard and bridge. It’s an incredible guitar, I picked the sets for the top and back and thoroughly enjoyed following the building process. I’m excited for you! Enjoy watching your special instrument come to life.

Jeremy no worries I’m 67 and I’m still 18 in my head.😂😂😂. Being that way keeps me feeling alive and looking forward to what the next day will bring, will it be a great guitar find, will I learn something new about my playing, or improve my luthier skills.

Oh man, this was such a great idea. Excited for the series! I also wanted to build a guitar when I was 18. We always so samesies. I even had an instructional VIDEO TAPE (lolz) I paid like $100 for (which was a lot back then!), stew mac I think! I am also not “handy” :( :( Still want to learn some stuff tho

Thanks for providing such great content! I wanted to suggest a video idea that I think everyone would find interesting from a knowledgeable Luthier like Steve.. I know you touch on these types of things through the course of your videos but I think to discuss it as a stand alone topic would be immensely helpful and interesting. What is the hierarchy of what contributes to tone in an acoustic guitar? What is the approx percentage of each factor/ element? Body size Tonewoods Front Back Sides Voicing of top (back when relevant) Bracing Pattern and scalloping Neck rigidity Nut Saddle Bridge material Fingerboard material Bridge pins material Strings Glue used Etc...
