I love that "Here Comes the Bride" analogy. Your guide is the first one that actually made my toms sound good.

But what if you don't have four Tom's? As in you don't have the 8" in your set. Do you start the "here comes the bride" from the floor Tom????
@marloforreal9 ай бұрын
@@throneroom2946 The analogy is meant for 3 toms: "Here" - floor tom (16") "Comes" - low tom (12") "The Bride" - high tom (10")

Just sounded to my ear, that from the example he did, the last HIGH TOM 8", didn't sound like "The Bride". Sounded like he only used "Here" on his LOW MID TOM and "Comes" on his HIGH MID TOM to get starting reference. And then used the those two reference with out the analogy 😢...but I will try it and see if it works from the FLOOR 16" Tom

that's fantastic because I finally applied this last method (after using tons of other), and the by feel and ears worked perfectly on my toms ! I checked the note/frequency of each head, and I don't have an uniform interval between heads for each toms xD : so all in the feel, the ears and the "respect" of the drum without stricts formula# and algebra, no hassles. Thank you sir !

Sounds great! I usually tune my drums about 2 tones lower than the tone on the shell. Then they sound the same pitch as the shell. And the resonant head a little higher than the other. It’s very good and easy to compare with a tuning fork app. I tried this new method recently, have not recorded yet.

I cry. I worked on shows where every band had to agree to share a drum-kit, We all just had to hope that at least one drummer was a good sport and they could just trade out cymbals from the cymbal bags upon the cymbal stands. I was the sound-guy, just trying to help. Bands tour with rental kits, and a house like mine back then might stow a rental-kit for a few years until we own it. Circumstance cries to all of us.

My approach is completely different when it comes to turning! As far as I tune Batter heads to the same pitch as the resonator heads exact pitch using Reveille which the Melody is in thirds. This will make the drum resonate as much as possible! Then in order to control your sustain you slightly loosen the farthest lug from you slowly. This is how you adjust your sustain. Always start by tuning you biggest drum first. Get the note you want the lowest pitch that you want. If you have 5 Toms like I do you can only do the 4 drums at a time then start from the next drum up in size and to get the smallest drum in tune to make the same Melody! My drum sizes at 16", 14" 12" 10" and 8". Remember the farthest lug slowly to control your desired Sustain! As far what J-Rod is doing as far as Seating the drum head do it his way which completely correct. Try this and see the results that you get from this sequence. You will be surprised. Happy Drumming! :)
