Apple even goes so far as to claim that there's no way to keep your data when they do motherboard replacement on an iMac or MacBook, even though the storage drive is NOT a fixed part of the system. Meaning it can be removed and installed on the next board. But they won't do that because it would reduce the amount they can charge you for the service. And there's no way they aren't repurposing every single possible part they remove that's still fully functional. They're probably the most anti-competitive corporation that's out there right now. The shadiest used car salesmen on the planet can't hold a candle to Apple and their behemoth corporate bullshit factory.

Because swapping also can work Apple is a very difficult company, if they knew what happens to electronics recycling, apple phones set aside for parts and end up in street market kiosk in Asia that repair phones, If we need a special tool we make it, take everything apart and use what we can For older repair, maybe old phones can help I'm sure Old apples are around everyone likes buy the new ones Just a idea for you

If you watch Rich Rebuilds on KZfaq you can see the same issues with Tesla. Tesla is marginally better than Apple but they are still pretty far away from supporting 3rd party repairs.

@Douglas Hamner Tesla is the worst by far of the car companies. Massachusetts is a right to repair state so they are forced to provide manuals. They just started selling a few parts but they don't have enough parts for their authorized repair shops. Forget anyone else.

Outstanding speech. If only consumers would learn that manufacturers actually design their products to fail so they can sell more product. Many years ago I had a Panasonic Laser Disk Player. One day it wouldn't work anymore so I, as an electronic technician, went in and reverse engineered the circuitry, troubleshot, and found either the laser had gone out or the laser driver. Contacted Panasonic and because I, as a consumer, was not an authorized repair center, I could not obtain the parts I needed. I have never bought a product with a Panasonic logo for 30 years.

I’m pretty sure most people understand that everything is now engineered to fail, I don’t know about you but where do you go to buy electronics or an appliance that isn’t? Even using the old adage ‘you get what you pay for’ doesn’t apply anymore. The only answer is to lobby for legislation but good luck getting the rich politicians to help out.

I have been a fixer all my life. I was brought up in a working environment where we always had the ability to repair things. It would help stop the mountains of waste we are producing by throwing things away because the parts are not available to us.

How can they claim an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part is counterfeit? It was made by them. Stamped by them. And even originally sold by them. So what if a piece of glass was changed out. It (the glass) doesn't have an OEM logo on it. It's just a piece of glass. How low will they go to step on the people who support them AND their products? And to think I was going to switch over from that 'other' operating system... Not any more.

Not saying I agree with this, but they have this stupid claim that as soon as their products are fixed they are no longer apple, they are a P.C. Which makes no sense since the term P.C, personal computer, covers all computers own at a home by a PERSON.

Not just a Apple problem but most consumer electronics. The companies don’t want you to repair, they want you to buy new. This happened w Medical equipment too. I was a Biomed Tech and there was a time when class, manuals and parts where easy to get. It is harder and harder today. It’s about money.

Of course if you carefully removed any visible apple trademark they would have the boards seized for hiding the source. If the logo is there it's "counterfeit" (which is questionable) but if the logos we're removed from parts Apple would also scream "counterfeit".

Robert Szasz actually, if you remove the logos carefully without hiding them it’s ok. I happen to have imported parts some with sticker hiding the logo and some with logo removed from them in the same box and the ones with the hidden logo were confiscated and it was recorded as a crime offense and I will have to go to court to prove my innocense...
