I said, "Are you sure, because we are professional comedy writers." She said, "Yeah, nothing is off-limits," and we asked, "Could we tell a joke about your friend and mentor Stephen Collins?" And she said, "Well maybe not so much in that area. As long as the jokes were about me, I'm game for everything." And she was, and she was so funny, and she was great to have in the room, and delightful, and in the recording, we were throwing alts to her, and she was doing them. She's a really good actress! Very funny. I go, "Oh, right, this is why you're a successful actress: because, despite the punchlines, you know how to tell a joke."

MAnnaconduit1 she may not have been.She was dating that tool from buzzfeed and his marriage just ended.They shared a moment and at some point they probably met up again and they were both single at this point, realized they had a connection and began dating. I think Mr.Peanut butter wanted to do this relationship right and dated her for several years until he was sure he did want to marry her.In other episodes you see in a short time frame he was married twice to women who were not the nicest.One cheated on him openly, and the other one had no respect for him or his career. Both marriages did not end on a good note and ended abruptly, so they probably did not even try to work on their problems. Whereas with Diane they go to counseling cause they know they both have problems they need to work on and both want to work on them cause they love each other.

Pretty sure that's part of the joke here. I think I read somewhere that the original idea actually was meant to be somewhat dramatic, until it was completely redone by some writers or studio execs or something and turned into a dumbass comedy instead.

The funny thing is that “I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry” was initially a commentary on American attitudes towards sexuality screen-written by Charlie Kaufman- arguably the most talented american screenwriter alive. Then Sandberg got involved and the whole thing went to shit.
