I do think it’s a bit easier for them than the “traditional” person as they can make their own schedules. They don’t have to be up for work / school for other kids. Also, I think having two moms helps too. You’ve got two maternal presences.

@@marli8907 yeah I do see that, I think you could still be more humanistic in your view towards your child even if you say have to work a lot, and also if you’re male - I think it’s more because the idea of raising children in society is viewed as very utilitarian and almost like completing steps instead of figuring out what your baby likes and dislikes personally if that makes sense..? I think it stems from more conservative views on child rearing overall. It’s definitely true that lower income families etc will have a harder time doing this sort of thing though because they just won’t have the luxury of ample time and money to raise your kids in this way. Also with many cishet couples the man is probably more likely to not view babies under this same lens, mainly due to the emotional problems that come along with mainstream masculinity etc. I think we would really benefit from raising our kids with more compassion and empathy though and hope more people do it in the future.

@@nicolescats2 yeah I was actually thinking of that too, I’m Canadian myself so we have paid maternity leave for instance. I remember learning the first time how in the states there is no mandate for companies to provide paid maternity leave and it’s just awful. It really is just like you said, that childhood is more to be survived rather than enjoyed because of how that system is set up.

It seems like despite being disabled, Jessica put in more effort to help Claudia recover post-partum than most husbands do to help their wife. They also work from home. I am reluctant to judge parents who complain about lack of sleep (and sleep deprivation is no joke) or other things because it just is hard. Post partum depression and psychosis can be horrible, and that's not even thinking about the regular things like anemia and pain that almost everyone experiences after giving birth. It also seems like they got a very calm and happy baby! :)

Now that you say it. Yes. True. I guess many people feel the need to get a baby for all the wrong reasons and do not see them as humans until they are a certain age. They don't take joy from seeing their child grow. And that's the sadest thing ever, and shows...how many many people are depressed without realising it. The world is sick of sorrows and trauma. My nephew was born just a few weeks after Rupert was born and I never got to see him. His older brother I did see a bit and his mother...really didn't get the hang of things. The boys are both not doing too well, from what I hear. It's heartbreaking. But when you are not the parents...you have to live with it. By you I mean me in this case.

Jessica, thank YOU for working so hard for us while adjusting to being a mum with Claudia!! Please don't forget that you don't have to push yourself for content scheduling...unless you want to and can do so without triggering a bad body day. I hope you're all five doing well with all the big changes (the dogs count too!) 💖

Thank you for this…and thank you for being aware with those who also with disabilities (like myself)! BUT, also put yourself and family first! I have a disability, too. (Severe Migraines too, and Trigeminal Neuralgia). It’s so essential not to push your body toooo hard and to listen to it! Please don’t over do it! Rupert (and Claudia of course) need you healthy so much more than we need captains and content! I made the mistake of overdoing it during our move this last week and am paying for it laying in bed for it with on and off face pain! Take care of yourself, Jess! Also, and I say this with all seriousness, if my mom wasn’t mom (she is wonderful): I would truly want you two as my moms/parents. It is so clear how unconditionally loved Rupert is- and he will always have a Loving Haven and soft place to land as he grows up! You both seem very intentional parents and, should Rupert have a disability, you would see him for more than his disability, ability to work and make money and that sometimes needs ext help help…blah blah blah-all Puritanical American Boomer ideals (unfortunately, my father sees me as nothing but my disability and had no idea who I am behind that. I don’t even think he truly understands what migraines are or even tries to…beyond a “headache.”). It hurts more than physical pain and makes me so very sad. I feel like a liability to him that has nothing to really offer him or the world (in his eyes). Thank God for my Mom, people like you two on KZfaq, and my therapist! My dad can say very hurtful things-because he isn’t intentional in what he says. (Nor has he ever been-despite the fact that I think he loves me. I think my Grandparents did a number on him, too). Rupert is a very blessed and lucky baby. I’m glad you two chose to be moms! He will do so well in this world with all the love you give him! ANYHOW… on a side (side) note: My baby nieces loved the Baby Lit. books out there! Pride and Prejudice (for babies) is hilarious for adults, too! So is Moby Dick. As a former teacher, good on you for reading to him so early on, please keep it up! if is so so important for the beginning of his lifetime educational journey!

Absolutely take your time. Just wondering why not wait the few hours to post the video with captions? I've seen people commenting in other videos while watching before captions are up, and it seems they want to watch right away with everyone else, and are just watching your lovely faces without knowing what you're saying.

My kid was weird, they started sleeping through the night (from about 10pm to 5am) at about 3 weeks old. And it was then I decided that I’d never have another, because I’d jinx it and get a difficult baby. That’s what happened to my parents- I was super easy, slept through from about a month, fell into my own easy routine, never cried much, never got sick, apparently handled teething like a champ with very few issues. As my mother said, my brother is my fault- I lulled them into a false sense of security. “What are these people on about? Babies are EASY!” Hah. My brother was lactose intolerant and had colic. He didn’t sleep through until about 8 months old. Though I didn’t get off completely- though my kid was super easy as a baby, toddler and young child, as soon as puberty hormones started at 9, all that went out the window. They’re now almost 14, and making up for how easy they were when they were younger. My mum calls it karma for how difficult I was at that age (and I was similar- easy from the start, but at about 10, all bets were off).

It reminds me of the rhyme about trees I was told as a kid it went something like 'Oh trees you are so silly, you wear everything when it's hot, but nothing when its chilly'

Rupert's birth has been inspiring me to learn sign language myself. It can be quite harder to learn new stuff as an adult but I'm feeling really inspired.

Yeah when I saw the post about Rupert being born I was like "jesus, that went quick" then I realized that my transition (which Roughly overlaps with Claudia's pregnancy) was going on for 10 months Allready :D

With the amount of love and security these mothers will give him I highly doubt he would EVER feel traumatized or feel the need to seek the donor out. He will be just like any child born to a healthy family, conceived out of love. You saying this on a couples baby video is HIGHLY inappropriate. If you absolutely must have this conversation go have it where it doesn’t have to be seen by these wonderful parents.

yeah! i think it's alright to show the kid as long as the face is not visible bc that way they can share things about being mothers while respecting the baby's privacy

Yeah, my kids are older now, 6 and 9, and they both beg me to take pictures of them and send it to people, but a lot of kids really don’t feel the same way.

Yes! I still get all my baby squees from the tiny hands and feet. I love that you aren't showing his face.

I do this as well with my baby. His grandparents are upset because they can’t post photos but I want his privacy constantly respected.

But is it all terrible to show his face? Look at Colleen Ballinger. She has show her kid since day one and he is fine. And all her community has grown to love her little boy.

@@ZairaBandy He may feel differently when he's old enough to understand though. There was a mommy blogger who's 9 year old found her blog with essays about her and photos of her throughout her life and she asked for it to be taken down and for her mum to not write about her anymore.

I didn't even know these books were a thing, I just grew up with my two older siblings school books and I guess that's how I turned out how I did. My older brother is 6 years older than me and he would sometimes just read me straight from his school book and my older sister who is almost full 13 years older did the same. I then also proceeded to read the ones they had left at home once I could read, was fascinated with my sisters biology books.

@@DieAlteistwiederda years ago I met a young woman (mid 20s I think) and a little 3/4 yr old girl on a train to the city. Thought they were mother/daughter but turned out they're sisters! Same parents too! She was pretty cool as well being a kick ass marine biologist with an interest in sharks and lots of cool and interesting tattoos. It's amazing meeting ppl like that

As a librarian, I agree. We do special times for 0-4yrs olds and their parents to promote reading with children. It helps with bonding and language capacities as you said :)

Also as a librarian I agree! We have bookbug sessions here, and even the littlest ones are active during the sessions!!

I got my nephew a books of books when he was born, and he has just turned two and is actively reaching for books as my sister and her partner made the choice to read to him from a young age. So babies do enjoy it and it does help, as he constantly asks for stories.

@@MarnieLuna My parents also read to me from when I was born and, according to them, as soon as I could crawl, I would crawl to the bookshelf, grab a book and thrust it at my parents.

I am a mother with a disabling chronic illness. It is not easy but definitely possible and entirely amazing! Raising my child is single handedly the most difficult but incredible life experience I have ever had. If you want to have a baby, I have no doubt that you can make it work. Warmest regards ~

@@bartho5212 I was diagnosed with a genetic disease that will possibly give me some disabilities in 6-9 years, but we still want to give our daughter a sibling. I hope I'll find a support group of Mothers with disabilities or cronic diseases. Reading and seeing this helps already.

@@rayyg786- Absolutely you can do it! Having support and understanding is essential. There are so many good support groups out there. Your doctor may also be knowledge of great groups in your area. Sending you love, light, and joy.

Also helps if you need to bring someone in to help. Which with pandemic times isnt as much an options but with disabilities and sickness and lifes trip ups sometimes help is needed. Or family and friends just desperately want to be there to help.

And it never leaves you. I find myself swaying/rocking the cats now I’m almost 67! (Cat lady..I know!) Of course my babies weren’t so organised as Rupert. Hmm 🤔 not quite true. Daughter - oh it’s 4am, time to sleep finally! Well that was lovely it’s now 4:20 am and time to wake up and scream for 23:40 minutes precisely…every night for 2 years +. I still ask young mums in shops where you buy the quiet babies that sleep better! My daughter grew up and obviously found out as her two were so organised! Not fair much eh? 😂

Good idea and applies to so many life situations and teaches balance. I did ice skating as a kid and rely heavily on the lessons I had in balance as a 55 yr old disabled person. My balance is less now but the lessons in coordinating limbs and bending knees to have more balance and all really have saved me from falls several times.

@@fragilefleurat I completely agree! The coordination from these sports is amazing to learn for general life fulfilment and stability. Plus, as an autistic person I really like climbing because I can be social when I feel comfortable, but also have time to enjoy myself alone without expectations :)

When I moved to Wa state and discovered hiking I was like wow I can enjoy being in nature and exercise and am only competing with my own abilities and natural challenges. I wish I could do it more. It is super fun to me. I love going on fall and taking photos of the ton of mushroom varieties we have here.

I thought it was so cute. Walter may have seemed uninterested but he was being protective. At least that's what I've convinced myself. 🙂

They do change very quickly. My kid started rolling around the floor at 16 weeks. She could zoom all over the house and any time you put her down, she’d take off. She didn’t seem to have a purpose to it. She just liked rolling. But that was it-from that moment on she could never be left on the floor without someone’s complete attention.

This may seem like a weird question, but are you in the USA? Having joint paternity leave plus family that can drive over from quite a ways away in an emergency really helps with exhaustion. Parenting is still difficult in a supportive jurisdiction, but you don't hear the same stories about people who thank their deity that they didn't crash their car due to exhaustion on those first months back after FMLA leave. Americans brag about belonging to a company that offers more than the 4-8 weeks of paid leave common in the quarter of managerial/professional positions that offer paid maternity.

@@nicolescats2 They live in England. Maternity and Paternity leave is different around the world. Most have paid leave stipulated by government. I am not sure but the US is one of the few countries without paid government Maternity leave.

@@westzed23 I know they do, I'm wondering if that is the reason why they look so good for having a newborn compared to others. I was wondering if having a supportive leave policy keeps most people over there from looking like a zombie due to exhaustion, and if their level of tiredness is normal in their social circle unlike the social circles of many commenters. As someone in the US, I have no idea what two parents being involved in their newborn's life looks like, as over here one parent feels forced to pick up extra hours, or both struggle to split parenting duties into shifts, to cover the time the child isn't at daycare.

@@nicolescats2 I definitely think that it does parents well. Without the pressures of jobs, Moms and Dads can bond with baby, and Mom can heal up. Jessica and Claud look very happy and so well and glowy. They're such a happy family.👩‍🦰👶👩

Hi MJ! As a bisexual woman in my mid 30's;I was totally in that spot in my early 20's. I wasn't even sure if monogamy was for me. However, that all completely went away after dating my now husband. It just clicked that this person understands me, loves me for me, makes me feel uplifted, we have an incredible dynamic even when we argue, and i want to be a better person for them. I just stopped thinking about "what if's" with other people. We've been together for 11 years, and no regrets. I didn't even think of being heteronormative, because I'm still queer, but I have no interest in being with other people. (And this man doesn't fetishize my bisexuality and pressures me into 3ways like many men have). We are a goth/ alternative couple, child-free, and we love our 2 cats! He's not a traditional man who falls into traditional gender roles, and that's what I love about him. But that only came as a result of dating several men and women over time. I even tried the polyamorous relationship, the open relationship, but it seemed so much more trouble than it was worth, IMO. Every ex taught me more of what I was looking for in a relationship, and what I needed to work on so that I was a better partner. And truly, that's what the point of dating is. Good luck in your love life, and remember that you can't plan for real love. It will come in its own time, on its own agenda, you can either accept or decline.
