I remember being so excited for my aunts when gay marriage was legalized in New York! They had originally gotten married in Connecticut, which was actually the more popular destination for same-sex marriage for a while, but I was able to go to their ceremony in New York that summer 🥰 and then I openly wept when we got it legalized nationwide, but man we still have a LONG way to go.

The concept may be firmly in elementary school, but it's also in serious danger of failing out! That right is in danger just as so many other rights in the US are in danger of being lost... and it's heartbreaking! - an American who got sick of impotently fighting the dystopian circus going on in the US and moved to Europe

This is so relatable! Even at 11 when my chronic pain started and I wouldn’t sleep for 5 days and then crash and sleep for a whole day, some of my family would expect me to feel magically amazing and completely refreshed. Um, yeah, that’s not how this works. “Why don’t you just go to bed earlier?” and “Why don’t you just go get some sleep?” were SUPER frustrating to be told as an early teenager! 🙄🙄

Congratulations!! 🎉🎉 Wow! That tea looked sooo much fun! So glad that was a celebration you could do with subs! How wonderful! 😃😃 I was just saying to my dad today that your channel is the first one I found when I got out of an extremely traumatic hospital stay for seizures in October of 2019 and wasn’t coping well with having to be in my wheelchair to be able to move around my house at all. It was far more than I’d ever had to use it except for big events before that. I have had chronic pain since September 29th, 2000, and yet, I was still questioning whether I could refer to myself as disabled because “plenty of people have it worse.” 🙄🙄 You are where I learned about internalized ableism and embracing using the term disabled for myself. I was just tiptoeing into using “person with a disability” right before that hospital stay, but it didn’t feel quite right for me somehow. Then I started saying that I was disabled, and I felt sooo empowered!! 🦸🏻‍♀️🦸🏻‍♀️ This channel has helped keep me sane through sooo many Migraines, seizures and chronic pain flares, and I’m just sooo grateful!! Thank you, Jessica for all your words that explain too many of my own experiences to count! It has helped me through one of the hardest times in my life with the seizures! Thank you! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

The vast majority of Latines I've ever spoken to, heard of, etc. reject the term Latin-x. Just want to mention that. If they find it offensive in any way, I feel compelled to reject it as well.

hi Jessica, someone used ur face in the thumbnail of a video, a linguist’s channel, named Geoff Lindsey, video entitled “Why Do Experts Always Defend Language Mistakes“. I am assuming they are referring to you as one of the mistake-defending experts, I think you might want to check it out.

Yes! People overvalue blood relations and are always prideful about it. It's why couples spend hundreds of thousands of USD (millions in my country's currency) forcing their bodies to have children and still so many orphans are out there suffering.

as someone who is disabled, these videos always bring me so much comfort. I don't always have the most understanding people in my life, and can often be made to feel like I'm not doing enough when I'm trying my best. thank you so much for your videos. just by living your life, you prove that you can make accommodations for most things. I don't mean this in an inspo porn kind of way, just that it means so much to see someone being frank and honest about their capabilities and disabilities and still able to have a full, wonderful life.

I don't get why different family makeups are so sticky for some people. I do strongly belive that children need a loving and supportive family and that they need multiple adults in thier life but that doesn't have to be 2 married parents that live with them. Parents and children need a village to help out. a well supported parent is a better parent.

Actually, the first same sex marriage license issued in the US was in 1975 in Boulder, Colorado by Clela Ann Rorex because she found there was no law explicitly saying she couldn't do so. In backlash, a man showed up to the courthouse with his horse requesting to marry it. She said that he couldn't because the horse was only 8 years old and therefore would need its parents' permission.

🎉 Yeah, elementary school. You know, when I was there as a wee small person, I was once in class with a person named Chris. And the teacher wanted to show us a script for acting for a program. So, she paired me with him and we were just supposed to do a couple of lines of talking. I didn't know the other lines of anyone else. When two other people came before us and said their script lines. I so, sat there in pure disgust while Chris was gesturing the act of surprise. The lines were "we invented the wheel." I was sick for some time- serious.

It's almost like choosing to have kids and encouraging them to be themselves and treating them as actual individuals rather than forcing them into restrictive boxes because of their private parts and viewing them as extensions of the birth creators can lead to well rounded, emotionally/psychologically/mentally/ healthy people.

Its sad that nation wide legal same sex marriage isn't even 10 years old. It's ironic that country that celebrates freedom and independence as much as it does doesn't see the hypocrisy.

Most of the people do, but the legislators are generally a bunch of stuffy old white men who had the money to make a good campaign. (Usually frim old money families who have never been in touch with the average American to understand their needs and struggles.) They can promise all kinds of changes and such, then get to office and promptly forget about it. Our political system is as broken as our for-profit healthcare system.
