FAQ: The Son of God is the Sun of God
www.freethought...
The assertion that the "Son of God" is the "Sun of God" is frequently raised as another strawman argument that detractors like to knock down. Like these other criticisms, I have already addressed this one, but like sauerkraut it keeps repeating.
The complaint about this assertion stems from the impression that I and others are claiming the words "son" and "sun" are interchangeable and that, according to mainstream etymology, these two words in fact constitute "false cognates."
In the first place, the phrase comparing "son" and "sun" is usually meant to be a PLAY ON WORDS, not to suggest that the two words are etymological cognates and are interchangeable. Hence, this complaint represents a strawman argument. I for one am well aware that, according to mainstream etymology, the two words are not cognates and are not related. Using this PLAY ON WORDS to make a point is perfectly allowable, but one that is evidently lost on the critic. Acharya S.

Our nearest star, the sun. We depend on it for light, warmth, food, and life. No wonder the sun is worshipped whether directly or indirectly via god man myths.

This is so cool and actually very liberating. How comforting to know our sun will always rise for us :) Back then thousands of years ago it must have been a little difficult to sleep, although after decades of the sun always rising I suppose they relaxed a bit. This is just something that can only enrich and bring joy and really helps in understanding our history :)

I read recently in Thomas Heath's "A History of Greek Mathematics" volume 2 that Eratosthenes wrote a poem of the heavens, the constellations of Hermes who dies and goes to heaven. I've had a hard time finding an english translation by googling. It appears that Clement of Alexandria knew of the poetic works of Eratosthenes.

Primary sources and scholar commentary on them support Zeitgeist Part 1: "This book is a slightly revised version of my doctoral dissertation entitled “Solar Worship in the Biblical World” which was submitted to the Graduate School of Yale University in the Spring of 1989. As may be judged from the title of that work, I had at one time planned to cover more territory than sun worship in ancient Israel, but found the material pertaining to ancient Israel so vast that I never got beyond it." - Rev. Dr. J. Glen Taylor, "Yahweh and the Sun: Biblical and Archaeological Evidence for Sun Worship in Ancient Israel" (1993) "At Stonehenge in England and Carnac in France, in Egypt and Yucatan, across the whole face of the earth are found mysterious ruins of ancient monuments, monuments with astronomical significance. These relics of other times are as accessible as the American Midwest and as remote as the jungles of Guatemala. Some of them were built according to celestial alignments; others were actually precision astronomical observatories ... Careful observation of the celestial rhythms was compellingly important to early peoples, and their expertise, in some respects, was not equaled in Europe until three thousand years later." - Dr. Edwin Krupp, astronomer and director at Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles, 'In Search of Ancient Astronomies,' page xiii. Also quoted in "Suns of God," page 26 "I find it undeniable that many of the epic heroes and ancient patriarchs and matriarchs of the Old Testament were personified stars, planets, and constellations." "I find myself in full agreement with Acharya S/D.M. Murdock" - Dr. Robert Price, Biblical Scholar with two Ph.D's Earl Doherty defers to Acharya for the subject of astrotheology: "A heavenly location for the actions of the savior gods, including the death of Christ, would also have been influenced by most religions' ultimate derivation from astrotheology, as in the worship of the sun and moon. For this dimension of more remote Christian roots, see the books of Acharya S" - Earl Doherty, Jesus: Neither God Nor Man, (2009) page 153 "Your scholarship is relentless! ...the research conducted by D.M. Murdock concerning the myth of Jesus Christ is certainly both valuable and worthy of consideration." - Dr. Ken Feder, Professor of Archaeology "I can recommend your work whole-heartedly!" - Dr. Robert Eisenman "I've known people with triple Ph.D's who haven't come close to the scholarship in Who Was Jesus?" - Pastor David Bruce, M.Div, North Park Seminary "...I have found her scholarship, research, knowledge of the original languages, and creative linkages to be breathtaking and highly stimulating." - Rev. Dr. Jon Burnham, Pastor, Presbyterian Church Here's what non-biased scholars say about Jesus: "The only definite account of his life and teachings is contained in the four Gospels of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. All other historical records of the time are silent about him. The brief mentions of Jesus in the writings of Josephus, Tacitus and Suetonius have been generally regarded as not genuine and as Christian interpolations; in Jewish writings there is no report about Jesus that has historical value. Some scholars have even gone so far as to hold that the entire Jesus story is a myth" - The Universal Jewish Encyclopedia "Apart from the New Testament writings and later writings dependent upon these, our sources of information about the life and teaching of Jesus are scanty and problematic" - F.F. Bruce, a founder of the modern evangelical movement "...Christian scholars over the centuries have admitted that ... "there are parallels between the Mysteries and Christianity"1 and that "the miracle stories of the Gospels do in fact parallel literary forms found in pagan and Jewish miracle stories,"2 "...According to Form Criticism the Gospels are more like folklore and myth than historical fact."3 1. Maybe you didn’t read the Bible at all. JESUS is not as you said an Character.... Jesus said 1. I Am The Bread Of Life Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. (John 6:35) 2. I Am The Light Of The World When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) 3. I Am The Gate I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture. (John 10:9) 4. I Am The Good Shepherd “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11) 5. I Am The Resurrection And The Life Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26) 6. I Am The Way, The Truth, And The Life Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) 7. I Am The Vine “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) Statement 1 tells us that Jesus is the One who spiritually sustains us. In statement 2 we learn that through Him we gain spiritual understanding and wisdom for living. Statement 3 explains that He has given us free and unlimited access to His Kingdom. Statement 4 shows how He did this by paying our entrance fee with His life In statement 5 we learn that whether we die before the rapture or are taken live in it, He has guaranteed our eternal life with God. Statement 6 explains that He is the only one who can do this for us, and Statement 7 reveals that for the balance of our life on Earth, the things we do in His strength, out of gratitude for what He’s done for us, are the only things that matter. Gospel is not fable The GOSPEL of CHRIST is the power of God for Salvation Romans 1:16 King James Version (KJV) 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Baahaha, nice copy/paste job - NONE of that proves a historical Jesus is any way whatsoever. The problem is, she did read the bible - even in its original languages. Highly respected 30-year scholars such as Christian, Catholic, Evangelical, Agnostic, Atheist and Jewish scholars concede there's no credible evidence for the biblical Jesus. "The Gospels are neither histories nor biographies, even within the ancient tolerances for those genres." - Dr. John Dominic Crossan, Professor Emeritus of Biblical Studies at DePaul University in Chicago "In the entire first Christian century Jesus is not mentioned by a single Greek or Roman Historian, religion scholar, politician, philosopher or poet. His name never occurs in a single inscription, and it is never found in a single piece of private correspondence. Zero! Zip reference!" - Bart Ehrman, New Testament scholar "The Mythicist case has been rebutted? Really? When did that happen? The arguments of the Mythicist camp have never been refuted - they have only been steadfastly ignored." "...As for this tiresome business about there being "no scholar" or "no serious scholar" who advocates the Christ Myth theory: Isn't it obvious that scholarly communities are defined by certain axioms in which grad students are trained, and that they will lose standing in those communities if they depart from those axioms? The existence of an historical Jesus is currently one of those. That should surprise no one, especially with the rightward lurch of the Society for Biblical Literature in recent years." - Dr. Robert Price, Biblical Scholar with two Ph.D's "...Christian scholars over the centuries have admitted that ... "there are parallels between the Mysteries and Christianity"1 and that "the miracle stories of the Gospels do in fact parallel literary forms found in pagan and Jewish miracle stories," 2 "...According to Form Criticism the Gospels are more like folklore and myth than historical fact."3 1. Metzger, HLS, 8. 2. Meier, II, 536. 3. Geisler, CA, 320. - Who Was Jesus? 259 "The only definite account of his life and teachings is contained in the four Gospels of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Bruce, a founder of the modern evangelical movement, Who Was Jesus? (WWJ), page 84 "...the stories of the creation, of the flood, of Abraham, of Jacob, of the descent into and the exodus from Egypt, of the career of Moses and the Jews in the desert, of Joshua and his soldiers, of the judges and their clients, are all apocryphal, and were fabricated at a late period of Jewish history." - Did Moses Exist? The Myth of the Israelite Lawgiver, page 9, quote from Dr. Inman "I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Historian, Sir Stephen Henry Roberts (1901-71) ; )

@@donotcare44I had to stop reading when you said no evidence for the historical Jesus. That's what mainly destroys this whole "sun" God blasphemy. More than any other ancient Latin or Greek literature, the Bible has tremendous historical and manuscript evidence for its reliability. It has far more manuscripts and far earlier manuscripts. The New Testament has well over 1,000 times as many manuscripts as the works of the average classical author. In other words, if we deny the reliability of the New Testament, we must far more strongly deny every other historical record of ancient civilization. There are more than 5,700 Greek New Testament manuscripts still in existence. And over 20,000 in different languages, which all line up within 99% accuracy of each other. Even Harvard acknowledges through research and studies that Jesus Christ was a historical figure who walked the Earth. Oxford as well, issues New Testament textbooks as historical record every year. The question isn't; Did he exist? He obviously existed. The question is, did He really perform miracles and rise from the dead? The historical evidence points to His reliability. Do more research.

@@donotcare44Also you can research the letter Pontius Pilate sent Tiberius. These two were obviously historical figures as well. The depiction of Pilate is quite positive; Pilate describes Jesus as the most pious person who ever existed, and explains himself as having to execute him only because he feared an uprising of the Jews against Rome had he declined. It was common in these times for many high status figures to only have a few or a dozen manuscripts, a lot even had none, Jesus on the other hand over 25,000. But yeah, no evidence at all.

Stellar House: The Ancient Hebrew word for "sun" is shemesh which is derived from shamash. Their word for "son" is BEN. Unlike English, these two words are spelled differently and definitely are NOT homonyms. Your video is untrue.

People get confused on this one ... She makes no such argument like you claimed above. She knew Hebrew and never made the claim that they were homonyms and wrote an article specifically saying she never claimed they were - she used it as it had been done many times before, as a pun or a play on words. www.stellarhousepublishing.com/jesussunexcerpt.html ; )
