@@bradshawvincent MES also co-wrote "The Otherwise" with Graham Duff. Lots of info in the intro to that screeplay (still in print, just google it). Pity it was never made into a tele-series as planned. I never liked that series. They'd set up something funny, or a joke, or a personal situation or something. Then they'd spoil it with horrific violence or the threat of, everyone was a lunatic murder gangster, invading this nice sitcom about Johnny Vegas shotting a bit of weed. Was horrible. Always went for the sour note. Otherwise could have been quite a good show, shame. Apart from that... Mark E Smith as Jesus. That's no surprise. I'd follow his commandments even if he wasn't Jesus. Mostly it'd be fetching him a pint I expect. Or else to agree his newest band member is the bestest whatever in the world, and his oldest band member is fucking scum. He even wrote his autobiography, then denounced that! "Renegade", bloody good book, and I think it explains MES more than he wanted to be explained. Made him transparent. A bloke who tours a lot and gets bored on the bus, so he drinks, then he's still bored, and extremely pissed. So he starts picking on some nearby band member, and it goes sour and the wound gets infected and ends up as a massive feud, over basically nothing. I'm sure he'd give you artistic reasons for sacking everyone all the time, and be stroppy as he said them. Fucking brilliant band, great singer in his own _oeuvre,_ and manages to keep the band tight and produce fantastic songs. But sort of... a bit of a prick in real life sometimes. There's another bit in the book where he gets arrested in New York for some minor violence on band members in a hotel. I think Julia Nagel was one of them. MES spends ages in "The Tombs", sat there, waiting under arrest. And he's wondering where the band are with his bail money. He thinks they're playing some sort of joke on him or something, by not bailing him out immediately. The fact they hated his fucking guts right that second was nowhere near his comprehension. Great band, and MES I think was a lovely bloke underneath it all, he just had some problems. But that's all gone now anyway, so RIP MES, a musical genius.
