It is at the cross we lose our sins and die to this mortal life. Not because we love Christ but because he loved us first and the cost of his own life. Yet he lives today and is open to our prayers and petitions for forgiveness if we are faithful to his commandments. To God be the glory! Thank you for this marvelous rendition of this timeless hymn by Fanny J. Cosby.

Psalms Chapter 142 1(Maschil of David; A Prayer when he was in the cave.) I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication. 2I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble. 3When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me. 4I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. 5I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. 6Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. 7Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.

What about the process are you looking for specifically? I can tell you that - I've heard of some apps where you can record one part and then record the second (and third and fourth) while you listen to the first one. This is essentially what I do but with a real program on a computer. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll try to help.

@acappellahymns
@acappellahymns 3 жыл бұрын
@@AM-6030 - I use Mixcraft for audio editing. But a good free one is called Audacity. It's the program that all the tracks (recordings of different parts) go into. You can record with your phone and then send them to that program. Or get a microphone for the computer and record straight to Audacity. There are lots of audio editing/mixing programs out there like this. They're often called DAWs (digital audio workstations).

@@acappellahymns Thank you so much for your recommendations!! We talked previously (I am your friend on Facebook also :D), and I was still not sure of, "How to sync my audio parts in Audacity to make it sound complete and not all over the place?" Do you essentially just use a metronome to sing on proper timing, or do you have a feature within audacity to sync everything together?
@acappellahymns
@acappellahymns 3 жыл бұрын
@@AM-6030 - Oh, I see. In DAWs, you *can* edit the parts so that the timing is close together but it takes a lot of time to edit a poor recording. It's easiest to record it - in time. One way to do that is, as you mentioned, listen to a metronome while recording. I think some people will make a video of them directing the song and then watch that while they sing the parts. You can also listen carefully for the breaths of the first part and use those a cues to breath and start singing the other parts.

Mr. Bowman, I hope to ask: what does "raptured soul" mean in the hymn? It sparked my curiosity if this meant "The Rapture" or "rapture" which meant joyful.
@acappellahymns
@acappellahymns 3 жыл бұрын
I think that's a great question, brother Joseph and I think your second guess should be your first. ( : There are many Christians nowadays that believe this is a reference to "the rapture" - our souls being taken away to Heaven. But I think we have to remember that in 1869, many words had slightly different meanings than what we commonly use today. In my opinion, and I'm far from a hymn/lyric scholar, I think Ms. Crosby was using "raptured soul" in the joyful sense. The definition of "rapture" from my American Heritage College dictionary has the following - 1.) The state of being transported by a lofty emotion; ecstasy. 2.) An expression of ecstatic feeling. 3.) The transporting of a person from one place to another, esp. to heaven. It is my belief that Ms. Crosby was using one or both of the first two definitions. "In the cross, in the cross, be my glory ever. Till my [joyous/excited] soul shall find rest beyond the river" I hope that helps!

Joseph Ryan M...I totally agree with A Cappella Hymns explanation of "What did Fanny J. Crosby mean by the word "Rapture" or "Raptured". However, as a Missionary for over 25 years, I am more concerned with what people think THE BIBLE is saying about this subject. The word "rapture" means "to be caught up" Regarding "till my raptured soul shall find" versus "till my ransomed soul" they are BOTH saying the same basic thing: A SOUL WHO BELIEVES IN JESUS IS BEING SAVED!! every ransomed soul, at JESUS' Second Coming will be "...caught up (raptured up!) together with HIM (JESUS) in the air to meet THE LORD in the air, and so shall we ever be with The LORD." So every single SAVED BELIEVER in JESUS CHRIST for everlasting life, will be ransomed (redeemed, claimed by JESUS CHRIST as HIS OWN, in the Lamb's Book of Life) and they will ALSO be CAUGHT UP in the clouds of the sky (raptured!) to meet the Righteous dead who were just moments before this, RESURRECTED by JESUS CHRIST and as a group of resurrected saints and LIVING SAINTS that never died at all--TOGETHER to go with JESUS to Heaven! That's why Paul could write Romans Chapter 8 whole chapter, especially the last 5 verses saying "...For I am persuaded that neither DEATH nor LIFE, nor angels, nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the LOVE of GOD which is in Christ JESUS our LORD..."!!! Because death itself, already having BEEN SOUNDLY DEFEATED, along with Satan and the demons, and sin--at the Cross of Calvary by JESUS CHRIST--death itself cannot separate one SOUL from JESUS CHRIST because Jesus said of Himself "I AM The Resurrection and THE LIFE and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this? Jesus asked to Martha at the tomb of Lazarus in John 11? She saith unto Him "I know that my brother shall rise again in the resurrection in the last day (The Second Coming of JESUS!! He had already told Lazarus, Mary and Martha about it!!) and JESUS saith unto Her "I AM THE RESURRECTION and The Life...Thy brother shall rise again..." (In virnacular modern English JESUS was saying to her "Forget about the End of the World and My 2nd COMING!! I AM that I AM that I AM HERE NOW!! Do you believe in ME RIGHT NOW?? !!) Yes, JESUS will resurrect All the Righteous dead worldwide at His 2nd Coming but the main issue is "DO WE BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST RIGHT NOW!! and do we have "...every man (man, woman, or child) that hath this hope in HIM purifieth himself (or herself) even as HE is pure."

The Latin word of "rapture" means "to catch" (thus, birds of prey are 'raptors'). "The" Rapture is the 'catching away' of the saints. A "raptured soul" is one 'caught up'; it could be the heights of joy or anything we are caught up in. It could also be a reference to "the" rapture.

Revelation Chapter 1 1The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: 2Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. 3Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. 4John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; 5And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 7Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. 8I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. 9I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. 10I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, 11Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. 12And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. 16And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. 17And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. 19Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter; 20The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

@freetoiletpaperumakeit4u508
@freetoiletpaperumakeit4u508 3 жыл бұрын
I am a Bible student and Missionary for over 25 years. I will try to my best to answer your very valid question: Which is correct, "Ransomed soul" or "Raptured soul". The short answer I would give you is this: BOTH are EQUALLY CORRECT as long as you understand what the word "Rapture" or "Raptured" means in the Biblical context. The word "rapture" does not appear anywhere in the Bible KJV1611 that I use, but in 1 Thess 4:12-17 and possibly other places, Paul says "...For THE LORD (JESUS!) shall descend from Heaven with a shout....and the dead in CHRIST shall RISE FIRST (be caught up, or raptured up: the word "rapture" simply means "to be caught up" so even though the word is not in the Bible, it is a BIBLICAL IDEA!!)...then we which are ALIVE and REMAIN (did not die! Praise God!) shall be CAUGHT UP (raptured up) with them in the clouds to meet THE LORD in the air and so shall we ever be with THE LORD..." As long as in your use of "raptured soul" you understand this to mean the "catching away up into the AIR with JESUS CHRIST" at His Second Coming you are FINE Biblically! The problem is the SATANIC LIE/Hoax being promoted by famous books of the "Secret-RAPTURE" which is an ABSOLUTE LIE! Rev 1:7 says that "...every eye (alive, both righteous and wicked!) will see JESUS at His 2nd Coming. Rev 6 and Isaiah 2 and many other Scriptures teach that the wicked will "run to the rocks and mountains and cry to the mountains and rocks to FALL ON US and hide us from the face of HIM (JESUS) that sitteth on the Throne and from the wrath of the Lamb for the Great day of His wrath is come and who shall be able to stand?" Some Christians to avoid the problems associated with the false doctrines surrounding the hoax "Secret-Rapture" have chosen to simply NOT USE THE WORD "rapture" or "raptured" at all. But both of them are correct if you interpret what the word "rapture" means correctly. To be "caught up" with JESUS is Biblical. But this only takes place ONE TIME, at His second coming and it will not be SECRET!! please see the rest of my comment to the A Cappella Hymns YT Channel, I've pasted them here! That is a beautiful explanation...And I'm sure that you love JESUS CHRIST very much and will be going to HEAVEN when He comes. It is my prayer that "all men be saved and come unto the knowledge of the TRUTH"!! Jesus said "I AM the WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE.." and we know that NO LIE, like the LIE/HOAX of the so-called "Secret-Rapture" which is completely CONTRARY to the Bible will help one to be saved. In more than 2,500 Places in the New Testament, the Bible talks about the 2nd Coming of JESUS. In many, many of the 2nd Coming references the BIBLE plainly teaches the 1. Visible 2. Audible 3. Public TO ALL THE WORLD COMING of JESUS. Included in those are Matthew 24 "...As the Lightening cometh out of the East and Shineth unto the west, so shall also the Coming of the Son of Man be..." and Acts 1 Luke says "...Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into Heaven? This same JESUS which is taken up from you INTO HEAVEN SHALL SO COME IN LIKE MANNER (Publicly, Visible to All) AS YE HAVE SEEN HIM GO into Heaven..." Rev 1:7 "Behold He Cometh with clouds and every eye shall see Him and they also which pierced Him (the wicked will be alive like in Noah's day Jesus mentioned in Matthew 24) also 1 Thess 4:12-17, 2nd Thess 1:7-9, Isaiah Chapter 2, Whole Chapter. Revelation 6: last 5 verses talks about the wicked running to the rocks and mountains to "...hide us from the Face of Him (JESUS) that sitteth on the Throne and from the wrath of THE LAMB for the great day of His wrath hath come..." I'm sure that you accurately expressed the FAITH and beliefs of dear sister in Christ Fanny J. Crosby by your statement. However, even back in her day over 150 years ago, not every Christian including Fanny fully understood every single doctrine. She loved JESUS and I have no doubt F.J.C. will be in Heaven!! But if she were alive today, she would severely REBUKE anyone teaching the LIE of the "Secret-Rapture" She did not teach it, but she, like myself and many students of the Bible had more to learn. She wrote over 8,500 poems many of which were never yet set to music, but the ones that are--Praise God for them, and the rest are absolutely beautiful poetry that we should be putting music to!!

Why is it sang so slow.

Speed/tempo are completely subjective (opinion based). I think the nature of the lyrics and attitude of this one is a bit more reflective, meditative, etc. Some songs feel like I could be singing them at the same tempo I walk (or march). This one, to me, feels like I'd be sitting alone somewhere in prayer. I'd like to hear your thoughts on what you think of when singing this song! 😄

Not all hymns are meant to be sung fast. Some are sung like this to speak to your heart and appreciate what Christ did for you.

@@acappellahymns Mostly true, but some songs DO have tempo notations, so it is not completely objective (also see my answer to him)

You only think it is "slow" because of how you've heard the pacing of others. My theory is that we have our own "perfect" tempo for hymns (perhaps songs in general), which is why it is important to have a song leader indicating a tempo.

Others have answered adequately but I'll add; this is about the same tempo that I am accustomed to.
