1.) Limit 2 per person (feel free to request 2 more when yours are posted)
2.) Only public domain hymns (Pre-1923)
3.) Include author/composer and date of composition
4.) Be patient. This is one of many hobbies of mine and not a full time job. It may take a few weeks to a couple years to get yours done.

Keep in mind that the main purpose of these videos is to help folks learn harmony parts to hymns and not to sound perfect. These recordings will sound a touch raw for a few reasons; I am not a trained singer, I am using very simple recording hardware, my recording 'studio' is a couple of spare mattresses set on end to eliminate unwanted sound reverberations.
If you enjoy the way that these hymns are sang and want to experience them in person, stop by just about any church of Christ and they'll likely be singing them the same way. Without instruments.
My recording process:
-Record each part on a Rode NT1-A to a Zoom H4 recorder
-Some pitch correction in Melodyne
-Mix in Mixcraft 6
-Combine audio and sheet music in Corel VideoStudio X7
-Music is typeset in Finale 2012 by me or borrowed from PDHymns.com

Since we are home all day due to social isolation, I've been trying to use this time to more intentionally teach my kids (ages 3 and 19 months) more hymns so that they can participate more in worship services when we are able to meet as a group again. I didn't grow up attending church services, so I've been learning a lot too! I'm very thankful for so many hymns sung in parts with easy to understand words. My 19-month-old is currently singing "bey!" (obey) during each chorus. Thank you so much for these recordings!

Church of Christ folk must understand the sequence of God expressed in this song they embrace. It is FIRST TRUST. Not trust in my obedience but TRUST in His. We obey because of the freedom we find through Jesus "trust and obey" life. .

Or as I like to say, "Works without faith are impossible." Who will lay hands on the sick if they don't believe it will do the sick person any good? Trusting that God's word is true is the first step, without which obedience to it is impossible. Who will be baptized into Christ if they don't believe it will do them any good? (Oh well, I guess I just disproved my own theory because all of the Evangelicals I've ever met don't believe that baptism is worth a dang and yet they do it anyway.) Okay, scratch that...
@cootumrebel
@cootumrebel Жыл бұрын
@@GizmoFromPizmo , some denominations claim that baptism isn't necessary for salvation, that it's merely "an outer sign of an inner belief." A denominational pastor once said that some long-time members of his congregation who professed to be Christians had NEVER been baptized. The rationale is, "If it's not necessary, why bother?" Pastors do congregants a grave disservice by downplaying baptism. Jesus commanded it for salvation, and His apostles preached it after He left the Earth. Pertinent KJV verses follow: Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16, Romans 6:4, Galatians 3:27, and First Peter 3:21. People cannot become Christians until they have heard the Gospel, believed the Gospel, repented of their sins, confessed Jesus as the Son of God, been baptized for remisson of their sins, and then continued to live in obedience to Jesus' teachings.

@@cootumrebel - I don't have any real problem with that formula. After all, it's all in the New Testament. Studying the mechanics of it all, however, reveals a slightly deeper truth. Paul's letter to the Romans shows that a man is justified when he believes the promise of God. You and I know that obedience based on trust is the secret sauce. I can obey through rote obedience, which is inferior to trust and insufficient for salvation. After all, by faith, Abel offered a better sacrifice than Cain. That means that Cain was just going through the motions - he was doing his religious duty. If a person is just being baptized for the show - to demonstrate his love for God or whatever - I'm not sure he's got the right idea. The New Testament NEVER says that baptism is a "show" and besides, Jesus condemned "religion for show" when He chastised the Pharisees of His day. I realize, I'm preaching to the choir here but these little nuances, I think, are important because it's not just a formula - although the formula is good. Here's what I mean: You can fake piety, right? You can go through the motions and appear to be a good Christian to everyone - including to yourself. My mom LOVED God (her Catholic concept of God, that is) but all her beliefs about God were completely jacked up by that horrible religion. A devout and sincere Catholic. Devotees exist in all religions, which is why it's so sad that these people are lost for eternity even though they were sincere in their faith. This is the tragedy of perdition (hell). You can fake good works. James talks about good works combined with your faith being the key to justification and salvation. But Good works combined with a person that believes God exists... My mom was indeed such a person. The Jews are such people. James misses the boat by about several light years with his counter to Paul's "justification by faith" doctrine. Paul wasn't talking about believing God exists but this is the quality of faith that James rails against in his letter. James 2:19 - Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. Is that what Paul was teaching - just believe that God exists (or that He is one God)? No. If you read Romans (which few have actually done) you can see what Abraham believed there in Genesis 15. Abraham believed God's promise that he would have a son to leave all his stuff to. In other words, he believed God for a physical, carnal, thing - a kid. He finally believed God's promise that he (Abraham) would be the father of many nations. This is the quality (brand, type, etc.) of faith God is looking for. Rom. 4:21-22 - And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. You CANNOT fake a belief in the promises of God. In other words, "faith righteousness" is the perfect filter against fake Christians. Allow me to prove this: In a bible study, one time, I cited John 15:7 to the teacher, who used to be an elder in the coC. John 15:7 - If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. I said, "Glory to God, Jesus wrote us a blank check!" The elder replied, "God isn't going to give you everything you want!" Here is a pious man - an elder of the church, a teacher of bible study - and yet he could not bring himself to believe the promise of Jesus. He said, "God will give you what you need but not necessarily what you want." That SOUNDS right but it's totally false religion and it gives us an out. It allows us to be Christians without all that pesky faith in God's veracity. I don't know where that guy is today but I know this, except he repents, he's going to hell. So, if you don't believe that baptism is what God said it is (i.e. for remission of sins, to receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, to be born again (born of water and the Spirit)) then you're just doing your duty for God - i.e. Cain style worship. ALL Baptists and most garden variety Evangelicals are taught exactly this about baptism. "It's a marriage ceremony where you declare your love and dedication to God." Can you give me B/C/V for any of that doctrine? No way. It's false religion. So you can DO the right thing, check all the boxes, and have the correct form but totally miss the wagon. As it is written, "Having the form of godliness yet denying the power thereof." I used to be such a one but it eventually killed me. I backslid and gave my heart to Satan. But God, who is rich in mercy, showed me a better way. And thanks be to God, I repented of that rotten form of religion and came begging for my old job back (so to speak). God revealed this deeper form which is rarely if ever taught in the church. I know of a few Word of Faith preachers who emphasize faith in the promises of God but then they trivialize baptism as some "outward sign of an inward grace" (whatever that means). There are a million ways to miss this thing and only one way to enter in - and few there be that find it.

Actually that's incorrect. John 3:16 says that God gave his Son for us to be saved, it doesn't say "we so loved God that we gave our life to him". If you believe you need to give your life to God to go to heaven(which boils down to doing works) then you're believing in another gospel. Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast.

There are many churches (churches of Christ, Seventh Day Adventists, Mennonite...) that exclusively use a cappella worship. One of the primary reasons for that tradition is because of the example that the New Testament gives us. In my studies, I have found no example of humans worshiping with instruments in the New Testament. Please keep in mind that I am not preaching or attesting here that instrumental worship is sinful. I believe there are various forms of worship besides singing. But if I ever have the choice between worshiping with instruments or without, I always chose without.
@alvisjenkins1305
@alvisjenkins1305 3 жыл бұрын
To reply to your answer that there is no mention of musical instruments in the New Testament, there is on e mention of an instrument in Revelation 15 : 2-3. Then in Revelation 18 it infers that various musical instruments would be used by the godly because there it is stating that these instruments would no longer be heard of the wicked. Why you would prefer worship without using an musical instrument is most likely not a preference but because that is the way you were trained by church leadership. I find it inspiring to have musical instruments with worship but by limited preferences. I once heard the most heavenly sound of stones ringing out when struck by an electronic solenoid striker in a cave in Virginia, those stones are the work of the Creator, and the knowledge to create the song of God was given to mankind. It was a moment of true worship hearing the melodious hymn being played at Luraey Caverns in Virginia. Personally and reverently, I prefer the church of God used some 13 times in the New Testament. In all reality, God has only one true church of which Je'sus Christ is the head. Glory to His name !
@acappellahymns
@acappellahymns 3 жыл бұрын
You are welcome to worship however you like. I will not be judging anyone for how they chose to worship. I only provide an explanation for why *many* churches do not use instruments during congregational worship. I never cared for church titles such as "Church of Christ" (capital 'C'), "Church of God", "Christian Church", etc. God does have one true church with Jesus being the head. We should all, no matter what label is on the sign in front of your church, follow what scripture says and not what a governing body, headquarters, board of directors, or anyone else says. Ultimately, it is up to each individual Christian to learn, understand, and obey God's Word. On the day of judgement, no one will have name tags with what church they attended and a punch card of how many times they went. Naturally, since you and I are different people, we may interpret scripture a bit differently. No matter what sign is on our building, I hope that you and I can find unity in our one true God.

If we have Him we don't need anything else. At our study we talked about how Paul did bad things. He was forgiven but people found this hard to accept going to church with Paul after he was mean to Christians. I wasn't mean but did things that when I told people I was a Christian they didn't really see it. It takes people a long time. God is merciful.

@@alvisjenkins1305 - I feel like you've got a conversation on your heart. I'm not going to respond to a question that feels like a set up for a sermon. Feel free to share your mind here. Just know that I don't normally participate in seemingly rhetorical questions. Have a great weekend!

@@acappellahymns Blessings dear brother in Christ Je'sus. No futher comment and a-cappela hymns are great to listen to but I prefer instrumental accompaniment that doesn't compromise with the world's style.
