In the 1960's I read about Art Arfons and his land speed record car. An old Lincoln frame, a junkyard jet engine and an old bus to haul it around in. He was way cool to me. I must have been about 15.

reading art arfons book in school i immediately loved jet cars. this thing is obviously detuned for fun passes low 7s at 197mph. mabe 60% 1400hp it should run relatively care free if given proper maintenance. love it wish i still had my altered.

A a young child,my Dad took me to the Ramona,Ca. "drag strip and I got to watch art burn down the "timing stand" nd a chain link fence that dared to get too close. Burned paint off 3 cars in the pit area when it fired.An Addict was born!

you can actually hear the tires grip while the chassis is flexing and bouncing a little as it goes down the track, that's wild! grip.. grip.. grip... grip.... grip....... grip.............

TurboSHAFT engine, not TurboFAN. Like a helicopter engine, it uses jet engine tech to drive a shaft, which in this case goes through a clutch. The shaft turns the same RPM the whole time, it does not "accelerate" like a combustion engine does.

It's a turbo shaft engine the shaft is connected to a transmission not a turbo jet engine where the exhaust is used as the thrust.

blastman8888 it's not a turbo shaft engine. It's a gas generator + power turbine. The drive system is in the rear. There is no mechanical coupling. This is the same way helicopters work.

Turbine shaft not a Jet engine. Don Garlits built one engine in rhe rear, it's in his museum.

yes u can, jet engines can use nitrous as i seen someone shoot straight n02 into the intake and the engine accelerate. even better i seen it done on a wood/fuel turbo jet barrel

The lack of a scatter shield on the engine case is downright scary! When a jet engine shells out, it explodes 360 degrees.

Sam K this is because this jet engine is from a helicopter and it produces mechanical torque with a power turbine. The thrust is negligible

technically it is parts wise and its classed as a type of jet engine anyways. its called a turbine for a reason because its using the power the jet uses [air/fuel high speed rotating components] so yes it can be called a jet but its often referred as "turbine jet engine" which is what its referred as in proper words. it also depends on the slang used
