Dan Bergman was told he wasn't Jewish because his mother wasn't Jewish. Is that true or is it just religious dogma and tradition? Dan shares his experiences regarding this controversial issue and explains how paternal Jewish descent was the Biblical norm. He also discusses Biblical prophecy that points to Jesus and how faith in Jesus is a Jewish concept based on those prophecies.
Join Dan on his KZfaq channel where he addresses biblical topics, shares Hebrew insights, and brings encouragement through Scripture.

I’m a Patrilineal Jew from my dad’s side. I’ve had people mock me telling me I’m not Jewish because my mom isn’t Jewish and I’ve had a LGBT woman bully me and gaslit me saying I betrayed my Jewish ancestral lineage for being a Christian and she tried to get me to reject Jesus. She was demonic! Then I met a new Jewish friend at Nova Exhibition in NYC in my group tour. The new friend said “are you Jewish because you look Jewish “ I asked him where he’s from he said Southern Russia. I told him, my Jewish ancestor is from Archangel, Russia. He was elated and said that’s north of me and that’s why you look Jewish. The funny thing is, your guest of your show looks exactly like my Jewish cousin. Bald headed with glasses and similar nose. That made me smile knowing all that’s been said and done towards me by bullies, I never waiver my ancestral heritage and I’m proud to have Jewish heritage in me. Such a great interview. ✡️✝️

My father is of jewish heritage (Hungary, my mother a protestant christian). I dont say religion, as he was never exposed to judaism, so neither was I. Gentile opinion here. I think the concern that the original poster has is absolutely valid because of chapter one of Galatians, verse 8 and 9... Those 2 verses give a very Stern warning about believing in a false gospel... And since the Holy Spirit authored it, we should pay attention to it... It's also the case that if we have a false version of Jesus in our minds, then we have a false gospel.... This is what First Timothy chapter 4 refers to with the phrase "Doctrines of demons .. In other words, right belief keeps us closer to the gospel. Wrong belief steers us away from faith in God. It's not just about right action... Right belief precedes right action. Otherwise, your faith is simply wishful thinking. An anti-Semitic Christianity is not what Jesus wanted for the church at all... It's a violation of john seventeen and what paul referred to as "oneness of the believers" in the letter to the philippine church. Some branches of Christianity have this attitude and when you talk to them. It's like they never read Romans 11. With love, I would warn the people in this thread. Not to take what the original poster was concerned about so lightly.

When I was a child and youth during the 50’s and 60’s, I told people I was “half-Jewish” because my dad was Jewish. My Jewish friends said, “No, you are not Jewish at all if your mom is not Jewish.” I disagreed and continued to identify (privately to myself) as half-Jewish. I was accepted socially by my friends. After reading the OT, I came to understand why people started deciding it was so important for the mother to be Jewish. Many times in the OT, when Jewish men married non-Jewish women, both they and their children started worshipping foreign deities. Even in the case of my family, my Jewish dad married my Christian mom, and we kids were raised Christian. In our case, that was because my dad was pretty secular, while my mom was religious. But since mom’s often spend more time with kids than dads (or at least they did in the past), I can understand why rabbis reached the conclusion that having a Jewish mother was of paramount importance. That said, and even though I came into a personal relationship with Jesus that I can never deny, I still consider myself half-Jewish and feel strongly about Israel and identify with Jewish people even if they do not identify with me.

The father determines that the children are Jewish all the time in the Bible, so the Rabbis have no right to change the protocol. They think that they are so damned important that they can change customs at their own will, but God doesn't change His standards, or His mind about anything. The mother never determined the Judaism of the children. Ruth was a Moabitess, the two handmaids of Rachel and Leah were Mesopotamian, Joseph's wife was Egyptian, and there are more but that's enough to make my point clear. I believe that I am Jewish and so is my father and his father was a Jewish exile in Italy.

Yeshua, believing 1/2 Jew on my mother's side, BTW , she knew that on her father's side, she was of the Benjamites! She was a believer. Anyway, she married out. Daddy was a Goyim. He was wonderful, and so was she. I had a reverse Antisemitic episode in the Tampa Bay, Florida area. A friend from work was converting to Judaism. The friend invited to the ceremony at the Temple. Most people were nice, but when I spoke to them and they asked my background, a few, including the Rabbi, weren't. He told me, "Well, my family would never marry out." Man, I felt like garbage among what I thought were my own people. Bad enough the nasty gentiles at times, but this cut like a knife. Thank G-d I don't live there anymore and now have a great fellowship with mostly Gentiles and a few other believing 1/2 Jews, both from their mom's and dad's side❤ Thanks for all you do. Why is paternal ancestry not important for being Jewish? Have they forgotten that they are the "seed of Abraham"? Is not their heritage and inheritance recorded in the Bible, an inheritance given by the "God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob"? How can one deny patrilineal lineage and then claim the land of Israel is theirs? It's self-defeating. By mother or father, you can claim Jewishness.

Yeah it’s a little weird like that. Here is me accepted as Jewish because of trad roots via mother but 3 thrice removed yet somebody linked via lineage through father even closer like second gen is not considered Jewish. The thing is I have never known until recently and don’t have the slightest inkling to be accepted as Jew. It’s double weird because apparently there is a link on my dad’s side also. Being born as first generation national of an obscure country meant zero family history. Parents didn’t ever think to teach us our family history so we had no knowledge of any of it. I mean zero family tradition from one side or the other. Only ever got the occasional anecdotes of amusing stories told to us but mostly that was before television got our attention and we wanted to get from the dinner table with no banter. The whole idea of family history became a none issue. Really my thoughts are that I would like to know the history but it’s not at all been any part of my world view.

I am an Israeli Jew and after living with several 'kosher' Jewish women and even divorcing one, I continued to search for the love of my life and in the end I found the most Jewish girl I ever met in my life, she was not Jewish because only her grandfather was Jewish, I still married her, we have been together for twenty years now and I found out that my wife More Jewish than all the others, although not according to the rabbinate, but it doesn't really matter to me now even though she really wants to convert for the children. It's a shame they heap so many difficulties on her, it's all their loss not mine😇

0:54 "That doesn't magically eliminate... suddenly". Magically eliminating is the rule of the day for Modern Judaism. They magically eliminated the need of the pristhood to be from the house of Aaron. They Magically eliminated 200+ years from the jewish calendar, for Daniel's prophecy to fall into a false messiah (Bar Koba). They magically eliminated a ordained by Hashem levitical feast (first fruit) just because it led naturally to think of the person of Yeshua. So, on and so forth.

Judaism corrupted the law (sheker Jer8:8), the Messiah is the true salvation in the new covenant (Jer 31:31). The Kingdom of the Messiah (Dan 7:14) is in our hearts, till it is revealed at His 2nd coming. Blessed is who believes, faith in the Messiah was also required in the old covenant. Now He, the Prince, the Messiah, came (Dan 9:24-26) and Jew and Gentile is required to believe in Him, it is salvation!

The problem with Christianity on this topic is that there are many different beliefs on end times, for example, look up these words premillennialism, postmillennial, amillennialism. These are just 3 of the varied and very different teachings of Christianity which you won’t get help from your Christian friends. Do yourself a favour and run from the church if you’re looking for truth like many exchristians!

The Jewish people of old new His name, Yehoshua, His shortcut is Yeshua (Neh 8:17). Kaduri got His name. Moses changed the name of Josua in Yehoshua. Why? It is written in Targum Onkelos on Deut 31:3,6,8 in aramaic Targum it speaks of Adonai as His Word and His Son. The Targum Onkelos says "Yehoshua, He is crossing before you as Adonai", God. They know Ps 110:1-5, this was true Judaism.

My brother Dan. I too am Jewish on my father’s side and was rejected entrance into Messianic Jewish theological institute to be a rabbi. I am of Sephardic descent. I need to point out a need for correction as you misspoke when you referred to Jeremiah 31:33 and stated the New Covenant “has nothing to do with the Mosaic Law.” But then you said, “he would His Law upon their inward parts and on their hearts.” However, Jeremiah 31:33 specifically states it has everything to do with the Mosaic Law as it states; 33 “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it….” It speaks of Torah which is instruction from prophetic teaching to instruction in Messianic age to customs and manners, legal directives, priestly direction and the Mosaic Law which is still in effect. The Torah never teaches that newer covenants annul or cancel previous ones but rather build on them. I humbly submit this for your review. In Messiah. Shalom.

Post Edit: I am also glad this video helped you Edit: I still agree with the last two things you said, but you wrote for someone else's purview. Peace you as well, in my church we did communion, and some of it was Jesus was broken so we could be accepted, He blessed the bread, broke it and gave it to us. We are accepted in Jesus the Messiah, also your brothers and sisters are in Jesus and this comforts me, as Jew and Gentile are one, and loved by what Jesus did and how He offers this to us today as the living God. I think the covenant can be isolated from the Old, but the ethical principals are eternal and as Paul wrote is good for "instruction…" elsewhere I think he writes that the people in the old testament are written of as "examples for us," so Paul says the old testament is something we should pay attention to (not one person here would dispute that, but onto the main point) Torah can be a very local term. There is the Law of specific things like in sacrifices in Leviticus 7, the Torah may be the books of Moses and also the whole of the Hebrew Bible. I don't see any problem with God meaning the Torah of the heart such as love your neighbor being isolated yet tangential in meaning to Jesus' words, "love your neighbor as yourself." You may be right and He could mean the whole Torah is in our hearts, I might be inclined to a way of thinking as long as the Epistles and Messiah agree, let's eat together in the banquet of Messiah (through faith in Messiah as well). It is always awesome to hear of Jew or Gentile in the faith, and I am glad Jesus has accepted you. 😊 That's what matters,to be accepted in the beloved. (Plus the hand of God in providence in your life might be greater than to study at a messianic T.I.. There is a quote by a Christian author who once said ~"if God calls you clean toilets, don't step down to preach)." A little weird perhaps out of context but I think it cuts down to the heart of it, serving and obeying God.

Thank you for being here and teaching us our Messianic Jewish brother Isaiah 53 Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. 4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppression[a] and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished.[b] 9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes[c] his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. 11 After he has suffered, he will see the light of life[d] and be satisfied[e]; by his knowledge[f] my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,[g] and he will divide the spoils with the strong,[h] because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

My wife took a DNA test through 23&Me and found she was over 30% Ashkenazi Jew, which shocked us. We then found her father's parents had hidden their Jewish heritage after leaving Bohemia in the 1930's, to the extent that they never told their children. We have since heard this lie about the mother's lineage, which I have rejected as one more Talmudic falsehood. It was actually a happy thing to learn my wife is a Messianic Jew, and my children share a lineage with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob!

Most of my life I felt Jewish. I was raised Christian and later at 21 accepted Yeshua as my Lord and Savior. I progressed in life learning more about the Bible and Yeshua. In later years ,When my 2 daughters joined and attended a Messianic Synagogue which they raved about. I felt that tug in my soul. So I decided to get a Autosomal DNA test to put this to rest. Later I received the results and was stunned to find out that my feelings all my life were correct. My Mothers side was Jewish and they were able to trace back to Ancient Israel, then I found out that my Fathers side too had Jewish markers as well. A Jewish Rabbi had told me that Davis can be Jewish . He told me many Jews took that name in England and Wales when they fled persecution in the Middle East and fled to Scotland,England and Wales. They were of Judah and Davis meant Son of David. I even got a certificate from the DNA Company authenticating the Jewish Markers in my DNA. Also my Grandmother was from the Fine family.

It doesn’t matter of from mother or father that is a fact and at the essence that is what makes me Jewish. Even more important is that I have the blood of Yeshua covering me making me an adopted and eternal child of the most High. What grace!

If the lineage comes through the male of the family why did Jacob have to adopt Joseph sons? Why did the messianic seed come through a woman? Paul had Timothy get circumcised because his mother was a Jew etc. etc. Isn’t there a place for everyone to be grafted into Israel?

How can any decent Jew be shocked to read about genealogy in Matthew and Luke? There is something fundamentally wrong. Genealogy that completely contradicts each other and a Messiah without a fathers lineage that cannot under any circumstances link him to the paternal line as mentioned in Numbers. His mother's lineage doesn't matter in this case. You guys have a problem!!

@leon-jp7ch The lineage continued through the mother when there wasn’t an Israelite father (1 Chronicles 2:34-36). Jesus had no earthly father. Matthew 1 is Joseph’s genealogy. Luke 3 is Mary’s genealogy. The offspring of the woman will crush the head of the serpent (Genesis 3:15).

Throughout the wilderness wanderings of the Israelites, God was constantly teaching them things about Himself and about their own sinfulness. He brought them into the wilderness, to the same mountain where He revealed Himself to Moses, so that He could instruct them in what He required of them. Shortly after the amazing events at Mt. Sinai, God brought them to the border of the Promised Land, but when the people heard the reports from the spies, their faith failed. They said that God could not overcome the giants in the land. As a result of this unbelief, God sent them into the wilderness to wander until that generation died out (Numbers 14:28-34). In Numbers 21, the people again got discouraged, and in their unbelief they murmured against Moses for bringing them into the wilderness. They had already forgotten that it was their own sin that caused them to be there, and they tried to blame Moses for it. As a judgment against the people for their sin, God sent poisonous serpents into the camp, and people began to die. This showed the people that they were the ones in sin, and they came to Moses to confess that sin and ask for God’s mercy. When Moses prayed for the people, God instructed him to make a bronze serpent and put it on a pole so the people could be healed (Numbers 21:5-7). The next reference we find in the Bible to this serpent is in John 3:14. Jesus indicated that this bronze serpent was a foreshadowing of Him. The serpent, a symbol of sin and judgment, was lifted up from the earth and put on a tree, which was a symbol of a curse (Galatians 3:13). The serpent lifted up and cursed symbolized Jesus, who takes away sin from everyone who would look to Him in faith, just like the Israelites had to look to the upraised symbol in the wilderness. Paul is reminding the Galatians that Jesus became a curse for us, although He was blameless and sinless-the spotless Lamb of God. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). The Son of Man Must Be Lifted Up 27 “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” 29 The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” 30 Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine. 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” 33 He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die. 34 So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” 35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” John 12
