You talked about getting ink on the grip when filling, but one of the features of this pen is that you can fill it by only submerging what they call the the "heart hole" on the top of the nib.

As I mentioned elsewhere in the comments, that is true, yes. My point (especially with the Diamine bottles) is that you can still easily go too far into the ink and then its shape will become an issue. My thinking was as much about the smallness of the Diamine opening as the pen itself.

@@JG3Reviews Yeah, valid. I love Diamine inks, but I really wish they would redesign their 30ml bottles for easier use.

The picture of your daughter's grip is the first time I've seen anyone with a grip like mine, although I don't find it affects my ability to write with a fountain pen. Thanks for the review of the Tuzu. I've been thinking of getting one as I don't yet have a Sailor and most of their pens are priced well out of my comfort zone.

I've seen peoples' grips on pens, that hurt me to see the contortions some people have to go to. If the Tuzu helps with this; more power to them.

I love this review, James. I always trust your reviews and am keen to get them before I buy something. But I just felt that sailor is “onto a winner here” to use one of your phrases and ordered it. I had to order it from Goulet because it’s not available here in Australia, unfortunately. That’s ok because I have been able to pick up some “good stuff” that only Mr Goulet has. I am so glad that Sailor has been able to replicate the feedback in that steel nib. If you know, you know as the young folk say! I hope the weather is good in Tx. I heard reports of unseasonal rain. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! We did have a good bit of rain, but now the temps are at +100ºF we're drying out quickly. Such is July in Texas. I hope you enjoy the pen!

I had a Parker 75 with a similar concept. However, you moved the nib to adjust the position of your grip. I didn't know if it was a gimmick or was a real feature. As it has a triangular grip, I think, now, that it does have a purpose, especially for those, like me, that positions my index finger on top of the grip. This could be beneficial for me. As for the pen itself, Sailor makes quality pens. That they have introduced a pen in the lower price range is a plus and certainly worth considering. Thank you for the review, James.

Index finger on top of the pen is the position that has recently become a favorite grip for me. I wonder if the ”tripod grip” should be more put into question when children learn to write, given that so many struggle with it?
@paulmchugh1430
@paulmchugh1430 15 күн бұрын
@@Johan-vk5yd agreed. Why the triangular grip is considered the best method is beyond me.

I never understood this triangular type of grip. I guess back in the 70s when I was in school all of my teachers taught some version of the Palmer method. My index finger was trained to be on top of the pen, not on the side. I may get this pen just for the novelty of it, but I can’t see it ever replacing a standard round grip section
@paulll47
@paulll47 15 күн бұрын
I really don't get this pen, the adjusting gimmick is pointless since a smooth grip would fit pretty much anyone, people with weird grips wouldn't feel comportable with that triangular shape regardless.

If you did even the most cursory research or examination of the pen, you would know Sailor addressed the filing issue. What looks like the breather hole is actually the filler hole. It's a brilliant design. In the interest of accuracy and fairness, you need to pull down this review and correct this glaring omission.
@JG3Reviews
@JG3Reviews 15 күн бұрын
Oh, yes, definitely the movement of the hole a couple of mm will completely solve it. I'm surprised the entire pen industry hasn't turned on its head with this revelation. And certainly the entire review is invalidated. Blasphemous, even! We must all sit now in sackclothe and ashes for even having viewed it. Whoa is me, I missed hole in a nib! Terrible man that I am! Mercy.

It is also true for many of their fountain pens. It's a little trick and should work with all the 14kt nibs and other nibs. In essence, you only need to submerge the nib to cover the breather hole when filling from a bottle. It isn't spelled out in the manual for most pens, but rather shown in a drawing. Sailor's website for the Tuzu makes it a stand out feature, but it's something they have been doing for many years.

@ravilamir Thanks for reasonable reminder. Yes, my point in the video was that even then, many users (especially newer or those with shaky hands/arthritis/other) will still put their pens too far in. Goodness, I do it about 1 in 10 fills just because I'm human (if that's still allowed).

There is already a better solution that doesn't require moving parts that could break. Some ingenious companies have created pens that have a Round grip so that you can hold the pen at any of the 360 degrees of a circle. Me thinks that Sailor is trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

I can see this as being very helpful for left handed writers and people with hand disabilities. It's not a super expensive pen, and it's good to see a pretty staid company thinking outside the box.

I think for some it will definitely be. I don't need it myself. But there are people that may find it useful, even then.

I disagree. Kudos to Sailor for bringing something totally new to the market! Even without the adjustment feature, this pen fills a gap in their entry-level product line: a modern design and some bold colors, very different from the cigar-shaped Compass and the pastel LeCoule. Add in the fact that it comes with two cartridges and a converter and you have a good value proposition, plus the availability of a BROAD nib and I think you have a winner. I predict the TUZU will be extremely popular, and could even turn out to be Sailor's answer to the Metropolitan.

@@JG3Reviews agreed! I can see this as being useful both for lefties and those with hand-related disabilities. Larger gripped pens are usually fine for me, but I have some damage to my writing hand that occasionally causes severe pain. I'm looking forward to trying one to see if it helps. Plus, it's good to see an established company engaging in innovation!!
