You need to fix this. A tayu is never an oiden.

I’m gonna assume you meant oiran, since I’ve never heard of an “oiden” and googling it gives me a Japanese restaurant in Sydney. ALL tayu are oiran. Oiran is an umbrella term for the three most prestigious classes of courtesans (or just for courtesans in general), and the tayu are the most prestigious class. All tayu are oiran, but not all oiran are tayu.

Cite your sources. Many people in the industry today will gloss over the truth about the past, because they think that "prostitute" or "courtesan" is a dirty word. A successful Tayu often did have a rich patron that they were mistress to. Why else do you think they pay all that money to "buy" them from their okiya?

@@marinakesawa7470A Tayu was a Royal entertainer a Orian was the prostitute an lived in the Brothal district the Orian toke the look of the Tayu for clout. If you look up interview with a Tayu on KZfaq they will tell you the history an how most Japanese don’t even know about there background an how they are not prostitutes.

Whether Tayu were oiran or vise versa is very confusing, but generally I've read that tayu are the highest rank of Oiran, or oiran started calling themselves Tayu to attract more customers. The historical literature on the matter is very confusing.
