This is my coal bin that I designed and built. I call it my AAGF Coal bin system. AAGF stands for Auger Assisted gravity Fed. When I push a button in the basement, the auger moves coal from the bin, dumps it into a 4" pipe and it slides down into the hopper on the back of my coal stove. The stove burns rice coal.

After reading all the comments and noticing Jim doesn't respond to anyone's questions, let alone simply "like" check the comments, I must assume his coal furnace burned the house down, along with Jim. May he R.I.P.

Nice!! One MAJOR thing is you wanna keep the lid on your hopper while the stove is running otherwise you can get a hopper fire, sounds crazy but it can be major issue if you dont use your lid

Excellent set up! I'm really looking into ideas to build my own as well as I'm thinking of going over to coal next winter. I'm getting too old to find 7 to 8 cords of wood every winter and this past winter did it! Its 28 degrees outside and its April 3rd! Is it spring yet or what! Anyway, I ran out of wood a few weeks ago and have been throwing coal in my wood stove. It works fine and I check the grate every day. Works so well, upgrading next year for sure!

You're obviously not from Pa. You can buy coal for about $100 a ton here. Depending on the size of your house that could last you a winter.
