Maybe because nobody knew his old ass references. Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty(who and what), A&E(?). ZZ Top, Unabomber, these are references for 50 year old Americans. And of course the bit about Anthony Cumia is funnier if you know who he is. Jimmy is a bit out of touch with pop culture, for instance he didn't see Phantom Menace until like 15 years later, the only movies I can think of him mentioning are Hard Boiled, The Shining, The Jerk, jaws, his favorite bands were big in 70s/80s, etc. It's pretty minor in terms of writing a joke, but it makes a big difference when people actually get the joke.

i have never watched Jimmy Norton do stand up and think hes good at it. he was SIDE SPLITTING on O&A. Jimmy is just not very good when he has to hold back in front of general audiences
