@@bOmBAsTiKNo. Its unbelievable that any healthy child would take 8 years to learn to walk. It is a joke. Its a form of self-deprecating humor, implying to the interviewing, jokingly, that he was a special needs child.

He ends the interview with, “Alright, now we gotta go to Don Rickles.” Looks like he had a lot of interviews lined up for that day, so his mind was somewhere else. He wasn’t really listening to Jim’s answers, just thinking about the camera placement and rattling off boring questions about Jim Varney’s popularity and box office performance. It’s impressive how Jim Varney managed to be so charming in a very awkward situation. Overall, kind of a wasted interview.

Jim Varney had something genuine he showed in his skits. He related to people and was just a genuine soul he was able to show others. Ernest saves Christmas and in Ernest goes to jail, his speech in the end of egtj, step up and take what you have and do the best is so moving. Plus, in saving Christmas, so many side stories. The girl who was on the run, bad childhood Ernest still cared about her without taking advantage of her. She needed to know she was loved no matter what.

I was so lucky that Hey Vern, It’s Ernest happened to be on television when I was a child, which was how I was first introduced to the character. I was from New York City, so I wasn’t really exposed to Ernest through the television commercials like most Americans were then. The TV series was short-lived, but Varney’s acting and comedic timing and the whole technical verve of that show really made a lifelong impact on me. There was something so oddly comforting about him and the Ernest character to my then-child eyes.

A good interviewer understands that is about being engaging while also being succinct and a good listener. Ultimately the goal is to get the interviewee talking. If you have some questions left over when the time is up, that is fine, better to be over prepared than under.

@@bestmoviesever1 So many interviewers are like that man, though. No respect.

I always thought that Jim Varney and Frank Silva (Killer Bob from Twin Peaks) kinda shared similar facial features.

Charismatic to a T if I couldn't find any other way to describe JV. Such original acting but just a real human being. He's definitely missed 😢

I miss him so much. Ernest movies were my childhood. If i could go back in time and tell him to not smoke or even bring him to the future. Even though he looks like my abusive step dad but with hair i always put ernest above him cause i didnt want him to ruin ernest for me.
