This was a great multi-purpose welding project because we got to use all sort of welding skills here. These columns were a fun build but they were heavy and I am happy to get them out of the garage.
Be sure to check out the products from our great sponsors.

Hello Jimbo, It was awesome seeing the different weld processes and really like the Spray Arc, worked almost as good as a TIG weld but a lot faster. I'll have to look into one for thicker material welding projects. Great video my friend! Cheers, Ray

7018, second pass should go on the bottom to give you a shelf for the 3rd pass. The gas CFH could cause your "worm tracks". CFH over 40 causes turbulence in the gas and fails to cover the weld correctly. I run a lot of dual shield and don't exceed 35CFH on 90% of my guns up to 5/64" wire

Spater control is always good. My favorite new tool is a brick chisell in 2inch or so. Keeps the BB's at Bay. Great for mig BB's and fair on Arc. Simple tool that changes cleanup to as you go. You might pick up a grinder one time for that one BB that want come off.

I'm a flux core welder and you get thoose worm tracks from either stick out is too close use a 1/2" to 3/4 stick out or it could be from bad wire but your gonna need to turn up that gas flow from 15 to 30 for that 1/2" stick out 👍

According to Esab on some .045 dual shield 7100 I was running it was moisture in the wire that causes worm hole porosity. It seemed about right as it cleaned up after burning a little wire and then came back at the end of the spool.

Different technique to weld the top pass on a 2 pass cover, first. I wonder if there are any downfalls to doing it the way Jim did it? I know stacking that top pass on top of the bottom pass is much easier then trying to keep that top pass from sagging out. I wonder if it has any structural downfalls.

The thing I love about stick is you can get really good results with a simple DC welder that costs just over $100.. Yeah I know, sounds ridiculous but the ToolIOM machines are cheap and absolute beasts! I paid a little over $200 (300 today) for my ToolIOM MIG welder, with a stick mode and it will do about 150amps at 100% duty cycle. Their basic stick machine is just the stick function, with a hot start function..:)
