I lost my wife of 25 years on June 14 2013. We have always been parrotheads and our last few days were spent remembering all the concerts we had been to. God how I miss her.When people ask me how I am doing I reply "I've good days and bad days and going half mad days...."

I am sorry for your loss. My husband and I were Parrot heads and attended about ten concerts before I became disabled and couldn't go anymore. He used to come our way over Labor Day and Labor Days have never been the same since we can't go see Jimmy. He doesn't even come here on Labor Day, like he used to! Times are changing but we all still love Jimmy Buffet.

One of the greatest tearjerkers of all time. Jimmy is such an underated and brilliant songwriter. He blows away Bob Dylan. There, I said it.

I listened to this song for years, my parents have both passed away in the past year and for some reason this reminds me of them, even though I know this isn't what the song is about it still makes me think of them, not calling anymore.

....this is so my story.... ....the phone will never ring again..between my ex and I..even though I really thought he was my soul mate...I just was never the right person for him..no matter how I tried...but I'm "out there" again..and every now and then, I think of our "memories", and this song so tells the story....:) I'll love him forever ......

They are two completely different songs. And even if they were not, it's not ripping off another artist. That's why Yesterday by the Beatles is the most recorded song by other artists.

At the worst, Jimmy is stealing a great line from a country song, but using it in a whole different context. To me, the George Jones song has a feel of a defiant, but disingenuous message from someone still clearly emotionally stuck on his ex. Buffett's song has more of the feel of solemnly letting go from a deep relationship and feeling the highs and lows of independence.
