I speak as I musician. Back in those days this was like God´s playing guitar, not only for his ability but the whole emotion on each note. Today I get easily bored by perfect solos without phrasing and dynamics like this. Blessed Jimmy Page forever.

Why do people always equate sloppy blues playing = emotion, but if someone else perfects technique, and or plays fast it equates to no emotion? Its quite annoying. I enjoy guys like Eric Johnson or Guthrie Govan. They play clean and fast but also have phrasing and dynamics like you said.

WalkingBlues Im 26. I don't not view sloppiness the same way you do, probably because I'm also a classical musician. Had Jimmy not been on drugs and or alcohol, it would have not been sloppy. Look at guys like Gary Moore, Steve Morse, Eddie Van Halen. All great rockers too, and they aren't sloppy. But like I said, I do enjoy Jimmy Page too. But he's just not a clean player.

There is? Do you supposed the concert promoters pay him to show up everywhere? Or is there some company with a bunch of them that hires them out? And how is the "250 pound guy" different from everybody else in the crowd yelling "YEAH"? Is this a "fat shaming" thing? "Obesity" is BAD, right? WRONG even. Right? Want to see a whole bunch of "morbidly obese" people who are in better physical shape than you'll probably ever be based on what they do for a living and how demanding physically it is? NFL linemen, linebackers, tight ends and even some quarterbacks.

DEEREMEYER1 No fucking shit NFL linemen are over 250 lbs. Many highschool linemen break that barrier aswell. You probably think you're real fucking clever for using sports facts on a video like this, as if nobody knew because the target demographic that would typically reside here would be clueless when it comes to sports. And come on, look at how old that comment is. It's honestly quite sad to see somebody commenting like that. Also no, it's not "fat shaming" just because somebody made a joke about it. Honestly, if that was the stipulation, you'd be shaming yourself right now, which you definitely are. So...I guess...you're right? I'll concede, if it means my argument was also correct. TL;DR, I think you're overthinking this a bit.

For all the haters out there: What you are watching is a musician playing to the limit. Improvising, on the spot and it was much more prevalent in music back in the day. But nobody except Hendrix did it to this extent. Had Jimmy died early he'd have the same acclaim and had Hendrix lived he'd earn the same hate. But nobody else dare, then or now to stretch themselves in this way. Not a single musician today would dare put themselves out there like that. Even the great Clapton sticks to a script. And everyone who plays guitar hangs their head low in Jimmy's presence because they know, they don't have his balls. If you listen to music purely for entertainment, you probably hate this. But if music is an emotional experience, you love it! Or you need to let yourself relax and give in to the ride. Smoke a blunt and lay back and enjoy! Remember, Jimmy had a job "counting crows on the telegraph wire", he quit it when he was the best in England. If you think this is anything but On The Spot Expression In Music, why watch or listen or comment? You clearly do not get it. I don't like Miles Davis, but that doesn't mean I don't respect him. He's just not my cup of tea. So why would I want to visit KZfaq Videos of Miles just to bash him?

He's a great player but wouldn't put him in top 5 or probably even top 10 of all time guitarists like he is often credited as being. I guess there's just been so many amazing guitarists that it's hard to say. The more music ive discovered the more guitarists like Clapton and Jimmy have fell down on my list. Guitarists like Rory Gallagher, Roy Buchanan, Johnny Winter, SRV, Buckethead, Frank Zappa would probably be my top 5 right now in no particular order except for Rory. Not only is he my favorite guitarist but probably also favorite musician in general. I think him and Jimmy has similar style of guitar playing. Not only was Rory the best electric guitarist, but was proficient at acoustic, mandolin ,ukele, harmonica, saxophone,etc. He had folk song like Bob Dylan and then the next moment could tear the house down with Hendrix vibes. He even played one of his best Guitar solos along with a stellar sax solo in the same song; Can't Believe it's True... not to mention he was a great songwriter and the most humble artist in the industry. Not trying to take anything from Jimmy and his phenomenal playing, just trying to shine some light on other amazing artists that were never in the limelight

@nicholasdipaolo76968 жыл бұрын
I don't agree at all. Knebworth's rendition of Achilles Last Stand and Whole Lotta Love would be examples as to why. I don't think you need to make excuses for him either. He played with his heart every performance. Pushed himself to the point of no return. No other artist living can make that same boast. Now, in his later days Jimmy is much less inclined to do so. Watch his Page & Plant performances and they are what many think a performance should be, mostly repetition of the Studio Album Version. Nothing wrong with that, but nothing wrong with Improving either. The only part of his career that tarnishes his legacy, and lends credence to the negative impressions of the early work, is 77/78. And not making excuses but he was a Junkie. Straight up Junkie that left him a fidgety shell throughout the early 80's. As well it should be what tarnishes his legacy because that's what Junk does to you. He cleaned up in 79 for Knebworth, but after John Bonham died, it's a miracle he lived with all the Junk he poured into his veins. And even as a Junkie, he was still better than many others, he'd just go off into what he called Avant Garde, but that's code for a Junkie's Tangent.

People always want to judge a guitar player on "Is it hard to play?" I don't agree with that mentality. Maybe it plays a small part, but more importantly is that did they create? Did they create something that sounds great and has some complexity to it. Just because you are great at copying someone else's music doesn't make you great. Sure any mid-level guitar player can play Jimmy Page, but they didn't CREATE it, which is what makes a great musician.
@IVAN3DX8 жыл бұрын
+Tony Gambino Being able to create something good makes you a good composer. Being able to play something difficult makes you a good guitar player.
@cakemnstr428 жыл бұрын
+Tony Gambino I dont completely agree with you. Its just that the definition of hard and good is wrong in most peoples minds. Good does not mean fast or with difficult techniques. It is a lot of timing, its a lot about the overall concept. If it sounds nice it's good. Music is all about personal preference. Thats why there is no such thing as the best Band/guitarist/musician ever. And you can play two notes a minute and it can be hard. You have to nail a vibrato to make it sound awesome. And while a lot of intermediate players may can learn play Pages stuff, to sound as good while doing so it a different matter. Sure I can learn The Black Dog licks and play them. But I wont sound nearly as good as Page.
@fredsmith1138 жыл бұрын
+Illuminator. Finally some sense from someone that sounds like they actually play. Yeah, with a full band behind me I can sound similar to page though. get me to do those tricky chords where he takes one note 1/4 tone up to give a chorus feel, and I'd need alot of practice. Also, with an undeveloped ear, you need a tuner to let you know when you hit the correct pitch. All takes time. But hey, I can play something similar to starway to heaven, that I'd be embarrassed to play on stage, but hey, zeppelins music is easy and page isn't that good. Right.
@cakemnstr428 жыл бұрын
Fred Smith I like some Led Zeppelin Stuff and some I dont. Sometimes I think he's a virtuous player, sometimes I listen to something and his timing is sloppy at best and he sounds like a rookie. I really dont know what to think of him overall. Maybe thats beacause Zeppelin did so many styles, maybe it's just Page. He really is the only player I dont really have a final opinion on. Gilmour is really really good with blues solos, with phrasing, vibratos, bending and putting feeling in solos, while Moore for example also like to nearly shred sometimes and Slash really knows ho to use that distortion and they are all great in their domain, but thei also stay in their domain. Page has done pretty much anything at one point and some of his stuff is really good and some is close to amateurish. And yeah I play since first grade and started studying a year ago.

I think its really funny when people criticize Jimmy Page because even if what he is doing isn't very hard or complex and other people might be able to play it it doesn't make them better than him or just as good you may be able to play it but i would love to see these people try to create or make anything even close to how brilliant and Awesome what he created is its ridiculous to think that just because something isn't wicked hard it cant be brilliant. He is still one of the best guitar players to ever live and just because a bunch of people who are just looking to start stuff and hate on him say hes not good doesn't change the fact that he is one of the greatest.

I am 66 years old. I was fortunate to be able to see Zep in 1972, the first U.S. tour in Tampa, at the stadium. People camped for three days to be in line to get tickets. It was great. Dale Mabry was lined up with cars on both sides of the road. There were OD stations on both sides of the stadium. There were only 20 arrest. It was great! Now I listen to them daily. BABY I'M GONNA LEAVE, is my favorite. ✌

I've been playing for a decade and Jimmy Page was my first guitar hero. Through the years, I've listened to a lot of great players with great technique and creativity: Jeff Beck, Guthrie Govan, Greg Howe, Yngwie Malmsteen, Marty Friedman, Nuno Bettencourt, Steve Morse, and now it's more difficult to feel amazed by someone's playing, you can easily listen to a pentatonic run and imagine how it's played, but in this video Jimmy plays some licks that are very interesting and his playing never turns boring. His phrasing is very tasteful and I think that has a lot to do with his influence of country music because his note choice is very different from other rock guitar players from that era. You know a player is good when he still impresses you after having listened to several other guitarists from other genres.

If I tune myself to the 70ies I've lived, this is immense. While with my current ears of a grown guitarist this is almost unhearable cacophony. To appreciate Led Zep you must immerge in a certain mood and atmosphere, listening to an entire album, or different albums for days. It's not music to hear casually from the radio or the hi-fi, apart Immigrant Song.

I loved Jimmy so much in the 70's. In my dorm room in C.U. Boulder Colorado I had a number of Led Zep posters, but also smaller pictures of Jimmy and other members of the band. I used to cut them out of magazines like Creem and Rolling Stone. Some of them were the size of stamps. I would put them up and ask my roommate if he could find the new Jimmy Page pic. He usually found them. When we moved out at the end of the year I discovered that I had 129 pictures of Jimmy Page on our walls.
