Literally nothing else than being in the wrong place at the wrong time and being slightly nervous. The casual and indifferent brutality of it is a very effective illustration of the empire's functioning. The mechanical application of a punitive sentence directive meant to be some kind of deterrent by utterly checked out bureaucrats and truly stupid thugs.

What I absolutely adore most about this show (besides the stellar acting) is the level of competency it brings to all characters. Not just the protagonists but even more importantly, the antagonists. The Empire is far and away more terrifying in this series than in any other movie or show before it and it didn't even need an appearance from Vader or Palpatine to make it so. Though goddamn do I hope we do get to see Palpatine in season 2 just so I can see him delivering some of this amazing dialogue.

For real, a lot of other Star Wars stuff I've seen make the empire look goofy af EXCEPT the key big bads. Realistically there would HAVE to be competency among the actual officers themselves, it's not like Vader can be everywhere at once. I also like how you feel the pressure from them having to deal with people like Andor, since sith lords can't be running around chasing any old rebel.

Yeah and actual dedication like Dedra and Syril. And the main supervisor. The Empire looks terrifying becuz it is the mpst competent it has looked. The systematic wiping out of the jews by the Nazis is brutal and terrifying not becuz they were just evil, it is becuz they smartly got so many competent officers having the large public believeing what they were doing was in their interest. And it was the only and best way they could thrive. Andor show that brilliantly in comparison. @JBroAlsoDraws

As great as 6 and 10 are, the finale is hands down my favorite episode, and one of the best season finales in any show, thanks to everything that has led up to it, from the very first scenes of episode 1. Andy Serkis says he built his own backstory for his character without anyone even telling him to. He decided Kino was a well liked union leader on the outside who was probably arrested on some trumped up charges because obviously the Empire doesn't like genuine leadership amongst the regular folks. He was known for doing anything for his fellow workers, but was beaten down by the prison system and just needed someone like Andor to come along and reignite that flame. I think Serkis brings all that shit out in his performance. Dudes top tier. ✊🏼

Yes - apart from Saw, Melshi and Mon - there are NO existing Star Wars characters involved (except Wulf Yularen who reports to Emperor Palpatine [not seen]) Mon is superb, this version of her character was much needed, and logically adds to why she was a key figure in the Rebel Alliance Melshi is a puzzle as to why he was included - but I like this "randomness" to the story. Hardly anybody remembered him from Rogue One - so I suppose he's his own easter egg! He can almost be considered to be a new character, and a very good one at that with his friendship with Cassian - certainly an improvement from his Rogue One character that was not very well developed at all Saw is a slightly less insane version this time - but he was a key player in Rogue One, and deserves a place in this - a good way of joining up the two stories as he butts heads with Luthen, who is surely one of the best ever Star Wars characters There are several easter eggs in Luthen's shop, but no real attention is paid to them in the narrative - it's up to the fans to spot them if they want/can That's just genius really - service the fans by putting all of the easter eggs in a posh antiques shop on Coruscant that documents the history of Star Wars! And for the rest - new (great) characters across the board and no C3PO skulking around taking away from the drama for "laughs" at an inopportune moment I'm a bit worried that Luthen's shop might become the blueprint for memberberries in other Star Wars shows That EVERY 'serious' Star Wars show will have a special Star Wars memorabilia shop in it to cater for "the fans" Andor did it first - because it's awesome/genius. NOBODY is allowed to copy it!

This show was very well reviewed, but one of the few criticisms I heard lobbed against this show is that Andor is least interesting main character or that his character arc isn't quite fully realized. I think that criticism missed or ignored a lot of what is happening under the surface. Maybe because the show rarely explains his growth, it just shows it. In this 3 episode arc he spends the first episode frantically observing the prison routine, figuring out his surroundings and learning the patterns as best he can. The second episode, he develops a plan, realizes he needs Kino (or at the very least his knowledge) and spends the episode developing him as an asset/partner. The final episode he pushes Kino when he needs to be pushed and effects the escape. I've heard comments to the effect that Andor doesn't seem to "learn" in this show, but I think it misses the point. He's not an intelligence officer yet, but he's a natural and he shows all the skills when he needs to, not because he learned them in school, but because he's lived it his whole life. It's why Luthen was interested him at the start.

i love this show so much. just. my goodness. i keep coming back to luthen’s monologue and how he talked about making his mind “a sunless space,” while leia and holdo in tlj referred to hope being like the sun, and how these different approaches were still both essential to the rebellion. but “the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude,” because he’s doing the dirty work needed. but yeah there’s just so much to love here-mon mothma’s quiet cunning, syril’s obsession and simping, the extent of dedra’s cruelty being revealed, the devastation of finding out what really happens in narkina and the breakout…just excellent tv all around. also not sure if you’ve noted upon it yet but nicholas britell, who’s the composer for succession, did the music on this! absolute bangers

Kleya is the best. Wish she was in a little more. The conversations in 7 were so good. Bix and Cass felt so real...the "keep smiling" with Mon was perfect...Marva ❤. Nothing else in Disney wars has touched this level (let alone the levels to come) and it's such a crime 😢. "Thesis please," is one of my favorite lines and I dont know why. Even without the action, 7 is up there with 6. Kleya is the perfect right hand man. She pushes Luthen he needs it. The dynamic between Luthen a Saw is so good. The shot of Mon reacting to Vel's dig at her husband is perfect example of directing and camera work...that alone is so far above anything else Disney Wars. "Never more than 12," Serkis can make anything sound epic. I believe they were supposed to be sent to another prison and the guy got transferred back by accident...maybe a mine or something where they dont need fine craftsmanship and can force them to work. The reason the work where they're at is because they expect to get out so it wouldnt make sense to keep someone that knows they're not. I think Dedra sees use, and I think Karn worships Dedra as the ideal that he strives to be. I want to know if there is a single take with Serkis staring down camera the while speech. "Kreegars men will be dying to make sure she has a father" 😮. My favorite list is 10, 12, followed by 6 and 7 tied. Arc 1: Cass is dragged along. Arc 2: Cass goes along. Arc 3: Cass raises others up with him. Arc 4: Cass comes into his own.

The torture scene is so important because it shows that the scientist isn't about pain, he's about the science. But everything discovered is a potential weapon in the hands of the empire. The sounds of the dying children of a sentient race breaks any human that hears it, and so they've weaponized people's own humanity against them. Just brilliant, and it's the 3rd best scene in the episode. Andor (and by connection Rogue One, the movie that made it possible) is smarter and better than anything Star Wars has ever done, because it's Star Wars for adults. Even the droid and his scenes are given a level of emotional depth that was never dreamt of in any movie or show before this.

On program! Luthen is an accelerationist. He's willing to do the dirty deeds necessary to provoke everyone, rebels and empire. I kind of view Luthen and Kleya as a like a master and apprentice relationship. Maarva's "That's just love line" is just such a simple, yet powerful way of explaining love. It's like we all knew Meero and Cereal Karn were destined to meet. They are so oddly similar. For some reason, I think they'd probably Cereal being thrown in a cage in the outer rim. The design of Narkina 5 is so splenda, but freakishly reminds me too much of a factory I worked in. Even the uniforms, and the Kino character. "Never more than twelve" is a line I never knew could get me so hyped. One of Cassian's cell row mates, is Melshi, who is also one of the rebels in Rogue One. It's Bixxx 😜 "Power doesn't panic".....I flipping love the quotes in this show. Cassian isn't a leader, but he's a motivator. The writing, the acting....it's just too good. One way out! #KinoLives Smile. 💖

Kleya is a very good Executive Officer to Luthen. Denise Gough (Meero) does an excellent job of face acting as Karn grabs her arm. You see surprise, anger, disgust, fear, doubt, everything but pleasure cross her face in just a few moments. The PORD had exponentially increased the number of persons being convicted of anti-Imperial crimes and it increased the sentences of current prisoners. The prisons were probably being stressed to their limit. I think it was an _ad hoc_ plan of the Imperial director of prisons to transfer prisoners rather than free them. I don't think that had been standard procedure. In that meeting between Mon, Tay, and Davo, their body language was interesting. Tay and Mon were sitting upright and tight. Davo lounged, crossed his legs, leaned back, took up space, had a drink. He was in control and he knew it. But, now, this idea of his son being married to Mon's daughter. I think it's clear Davo wants the look of legitimacy he'd get being connected to the Mothma family. But I think it's a better deal for Mon Mothma than she realizes. Davo is smart; once he gets his head into her business, he'll figure out quickly where the money is really going. If his son is married to her daughter, he'll be motivated to keep the secret. And when Mon Mothma comes out of cover (as we know she will), Davo is probably her best bet to keep her daughter safe.

I think I'm one of the few who didn't love the prison arc. I love unjustly enslaved people violently overthrowing their Nazi guards any day, it just felt like such an abrupt departure from the main rebellion story, and now we're just as abruptly going to throw Cassian back into it. (I also have some specific issues with the transition in the next episode but we'll get there.) I appreciate what you said, it's SUPPOSED to be abrupt, but having seen it a year ago and looking back at how it fits into everything now...still just feels like the thread of the show woven least tightly with the others. But, shot and acted excellently, of course you can't go wrong with Serkis.

But the prison arc IS the rebellion. It's mentioned in the Aldani arc -- everyone has their own rebellion. For each and every person something drives them beyond the point of inaction to where they are willing to die taking them down instead of giving them what they want. Being unjustly thrown into prison to be made a slave for life sparked the revolution on Narkina 5.

@@skiena I understand thematically and for the Andy Serkis character, it's very in keeping with the rest of the show. But as a piece of the complete puzzle on a larger scale, it feels disconnected. And I didn't feel that Andor himself "needed" this arc to continue to develop as he is developing. Again, it's all well done and on theme, but the long term impact feels lesser. I guess I might want to wait until the next episode to talk through some of the details.

Instead of just seeing politicians and soldiers/Rebels fighting the Empire, Andor's prison arc, along with his hometown, finally shows what life is like under the fascist system of the Empire, for the regular citizen who's just innocently walking to the store. Andor thought he was escaping the Empire but his experience shows there's no escape, you can't run away from it. We really see what the rebellion is all about.
