The cgi for Davy was soooo good for it's time, still holds up very well!

I don't care what anybody says, Dead Man's Chest and At World's End are the perfect two parter. Completely excessive but it just works. The first three are a perfect trilogy.

The cgi on Davy Jones still holds up all these years later. It's practically better than most cgi that comes out today. The film did get a lot of mixed reviews upon release but to me, the film doubles down on everything that made the first one so special and it might be favourite entry in the series. Now, only you need to do is watch the third one which definitely has its issues but does a wonderful job concluding this trilogy. Just don't bother with the other two sequels.

Fully agree with assessment and why this franchise is so fun. Many modern movies feel like trying so hard to be too many things. And even movies that are trying to fully embrace what they want still fall short. So was great to have original like series find its way.

There’s a great deleted/extended scene of the dice game where Will and Jones play a round before Will bets his soul for the key. In that first round Will actually wins his father’s freedom and Jones is willing to honor that. Makes Jones even more nuanced and it all the more tragic when the dad throws the later round to save Will

Goddammit this movie is so fun. Just a quintessential summer blockbuster good time adventure

Super glad you enjoyed Beckett. I dare say he’s the most despicable villain in the entire trilogy. Such a smarmy and cocky British bad guy, but you gotta love him for it. Davy Jones is also equally excellent, but he gets his due praise constantly, whereas Beckett sorta gets left out to dry.

This is personally my favorite of the series as it's the one I saw 1st, the 1st 3 already were released and I saw this loved it then bought them on DVD I didn't even know which was the 1st, 2nd, 3rd going in. I'm not even making a case for it being the best, but the very scene where you remarked on Bill Nighys' performance as Davy Jones is legit my favorite scene of all the films. I love his performance and say "The very next time. We make. PORT!" Randomly 😂 best performance next to Depp imo(objectively it could be THE best, but I'm not objective because Depp is my favorite actor, so)

Random tangent, but I'm glad you mentioned Infinity War as a complete film, because many mistakenly call it and Endgame part 1 and 2. Most probably because originally announced it was "Infinity War Part 1 and 2" but the writers and Russos intentionally changed it because of that very reason. They said IW is it's own film Thanos is the protagonist the film has it's beginning middle and full conclusion... conclusion being the avengers just lost LOL and people definitely aren't used to that in Marvel/comic book films. Even how they made the story of Endgame doubles down on that, because everything isn't just fixed. They lived with that outcome and failure for 5 whole years before they could spin and get their getback, and his actions still are felt. The movie was as complete as could be, people just were expecting the ending to be the hero's winning.

I like 2 and 3, inconsistent as both films are. Like you said the commitment to the bit does help in both cases.

Maybe its cuz we are in an era of American CGI and especially Disney CGI looking terrible,Davy Jones legitimately is an amazing work of CGI and Bill Nighy is awesome,but Lord Beckett is the one I'd thought you'd like alot Jimmy. His cunning and Snootiness is great and Lord Beckett has lived as a pretty memorable villian on the Internet
