There was a movie, played by David Bowie, titled The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) about an alien who traveled to Earth from a distant planet. He experienced humanity and lived amongst human in disguised, derailed from his initial mission to bring back water to his own draught-ridden world. The ending was sad bc when the alien finally wanted to go back home, he was unable to, captured by the government and experimented on. He lived a long life and rich, but his stay on Earth ended up against his wishes and he was miserable. For me, the plot of Jin's MV for The Astronaut is the anti-thesis to the film where our out-of-world astronaut is free to choose to go back once his plane is repaired but optd not to because he has fallen in love with Earth, spesifically with humanity represented by the girl(BTS/ARMY). In the end, his stay is gratefully not coming out of coercion or despondency, but out of love, care, and his own decision.

To me the little girl represents army and BTS. Jin is teaching the girl how to ride a bike and she is eventually able to do it by herself. Jin looks very happy that she was able to accomplish this. He now knows that the girl can stand on her own even when he's not there. When the space ship is fixed Jin goes running to it because he thinks it will take him home only upon arriving there he realizes he had been home all along because instead he found his home, his family. BTS became a family, a strong bond between brothers, and army is part of that family. We will always be there waiting for him because we love him. Jin decided to stay on earth with the girl because of the happy moments and memories he had. He has happy memories with the members and army as well. Jin has to leave but he will still have the memories and be able to feel our love. The song says he loves us and we love him. It's a very sweet song but also a little sad. I cried too when I first saw it and many times after.

Ugh, I thought I was done crying. The moment that kills me every time is when he is teaching the little girl, ARMY, to ride the bike and she/we is shaking her head saying we aren't ready for you to let go and he basically says yes you are, I have taught you how to travel this path and I will be watching and cheering for you as you go. I take this entire love letter to ARMY as his way of saying I am confident you will be okay, I have given you the tools and protection you need while I'm away, and I will be waiting for you when you come calling on my again. The song is amazing, but I think the video is the true heart of his message/feelings.
