The last "weird" sound was Eugene strumming (hard) on a chord, you can see it when you watch that part again. This is one of my faves from their library.

Yes. It’s called a “DENG”. It is a sound made infamous in Mudvayne’s song “Dig” - where the bass part was described as “brr, brr DENG”. Here’s Mudvayne’s “Dig”: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j6-hlcefxrbHhGw.html Here is Eugene discussing the use of the “DENG”: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fNCWdalmnM6WdaM.htmlm8s

You're right there with the meaning. The song is telling you not to believe everything you've been told , or raised to believe in. It is about Catholic school , with corporal punishment. But , the teacher are just doing what they're told and what they believe in. Teachers can be misled too. Tatiana , and Courtney, can flip back and forth easily. Surprise you more?? Okay. Judgement (and Puinishment), Tatiana's vocal one take video.
@enlightendbel
@enlightendbel Жыл бұрын
It's about ANY AND ALL people that preach from a position of power and forced respect. That's what the whole "it was all an illusion" part is about. The Catholic school part is nothing but an allegory for anyone who preaches without knowing wtf they are talking about. It's as much about celebs, politicians and everyone else with a podium using that podium to speak about things they have no knowledge or experience about.
@andreacalmado5429
@andreacalmado5429 6 ай бұрын
They are ukrainian so no catholic school, and that's not about that. It's about society in general telling people what they should do, the christian part is just here as an allegory and metaphore, not about reality. She explained it in an interview.

As to "flipping," in Vortex (and some other instances) Tati flips mid-syllable, even in the live set. I also like her tonal high-to-low-and low-to-high continuous growl that she throws in once in a while (again have seen it live).
@JariJuslin
@JariJuslin Жыл бұрын
Courtney is the only one I've seen flip smoothly midword, but I think that's because she uses more fry screams than growls. When Tati growls the true vocal folds are not active at all, which allows here to switch to silk smooth in a second.

The thing that is still amazing after all these years listening to jinjer is the musicianship of the whole band and the clarity of Tatiana's false vocals. So many singers just can't produce clear words with false fold vocals that even someone that doesn't have an ear for the style can pick up.

That "aggressive" sound is called a "blast beat." Blast beats are repeated notes played at a very fast tempo. Listen to metal long enough and you will start to hear certain artists use them regularly. On every Jinjer album there is at least one song (and sometimes more than one) that uses blast beats. Their song "Mediator" for the Wallflowers album opens with blast beats and then ends with the entire second half as one big, long blast beat

-This is my favorite song by them. What does it for me is that last verse. The way I see it is she managed to create the most beautiful way to say, to watch my language, “Screw You!” With the phrase “I Smile To You.” -What you said about not expecting a particular song from this band is why I have enjoyed the slow journey I’ve taken over the past year. In terms of philosophy, my comparison is to Queen. I was riding around with someone when “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” came on the radio. The person I was with asked,”Who’s this?” With confusion, I responded,”That’s Queen.” They were surprised and said, “THAT’S Queen?” I was like,”Well, yeah.” Their next comment was “That doesn’t sound like Queen.” My response was to ask what does Queen sound like. “We Will Rock You”…..”Bohemian Rhapsody”…..”Another One Bites The Dust”…..”Somebody To Love”…..”Seven Seas of Rhye”….”It’s Late”…..”The Show Must Go On”…..”Brighton Rock.” All incredible songs but the only thing that connects them is Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor. The same with Jinjer. My Top Five Songs(So Far) by them are: 1. “Teacher, Teacher” 2. “Pisces” 3. “Bad Water” 4. “Perennial” 5. “Words of Wisdom” Then, go deeper. “Sit Stay Roll Over”….”Scissors”….”Judgment & Punishment”….”Vortex”…..”Mediator”….”I Speak Astronomy.” The only real connection is the band. With every song by them that I’ve checked out, I am more impressed by them than I have of any other band I’ve listened to.

The reason it is different is that the genre is Metal Core, so you have metal as the basis and you put different other styles on top. With Pisces it is more Jazz, with Judgement and Punishment it is Reggae, and here it is HipHop/Rap.

The greatest value of Tatiana’s vocal flexibility to me is that it enables her to accurately and freely express the emotion of any lyric/situation described in the song and therefore the songs can be much more complex in terms of the story they can tell and have the audience viscerally feel the emotion of the protagonist of the song.

Great reaction! I too love it when Tati flips back and forth between cleans and uncleans. Both are so intriguing, so variable, so damn GOOD. You caught the “chop chop with the ruler” imagery even without hearing the lyric about it: “Put your knuckles on the table, meet my friend Ferule Who’ll punish you!” fer·ule /ˈferəl/ nounHISTORICAL a flat ruler with a widened end, formerly used for punishing children.

Life is life, don't let it beat you up too much, and at the same time, don't diminish it too much as the variants are what gives it flavor. Glad to hear you are feeling better. The song is about rebellion against those who think they know better, the authoritarians. The video is a composition of video footage from different concerts overlaid with audio from the studio, including harmony tracks and post-production distortions. Keep going down the Jinjer journey, you haven't even touched their top 10 songs yet. Try Vortext or Wallflowers next, see if the context doesn't speak to you a bit.
