Maybe his backstory could’ve been that someone challenged him to a fight, and his lost, so his penalty was his planet was destroyed, so he learned that power is everything so that’s why he’s so strong, sounds more of a hero’s back story.

That's exactly it. Jiren's backstory isn't so basic that it takes away from his badassery or lessens the awesome stuff he does on screen, but it's not a backstory that was _worthy_ for a character like him. The mortal who had surpassed Gods of Destruction on his own merit, without any angelic tricks or transformations. It NEEDED to be so much better.

To be honest jiren was lowkey staying up there with mastered ui goku and talking about basic alien bro what alien have u seen that looks like him and we honestly dont know if jiren is the strongest mortal just for the fact that 4 other universes were exempt from the top cause they were to strong so we could of seen other people stronger then jiren and mastered ui goku and personally jiren is one of my favorite characters in the db series in my opinion

The important part of his backstory isn't the story itself. It's how he let the burden thicken his resolve. Some become determined. Others fall in depression. True strength is finding a path versus entombing oneself.

Any body who doesn't like Jiren because of his back story needs to realize that there are no dragon balls or wish orbs in his universe. When they die they die. He resides in the most powerful universe. The strength he has obtained and the feats he has accomplished were all one takes. He doesnt have the luxury to die and come back whenever he feels like it. He obtained true power and superiority through survival. People tend to not realize that and think that death is nothing due to the nature of universe 6 and 7. if goku lived in his universe he would have been dead for good long long ago. Jiren's back story makes plenty of sense.
