Delta MD-90 Takeoff - Great Engine Sound!

Departing Detroit Metro on a typical winter's day. Aboard aircraft N958DN operating as Flight DL1175 to Atlanta. Excellent sound from those IAE engines!

Sounds like an RJ on the ground, MD80 while spooling up, and a 717 on takeoff roll.

AWESOME video! And you are right......great sound!!! I flew into DTW on my way to Memphis in 2013. I got the landing on video, just have never posted it. There were canaries flying around in B concourse.....:-)

I thought so, I was thinking to myself that sounds like the United A320 on takeoff, but I think the airbuses have auto throttle, this didn't sound that way, I could be wrong

I'll be flying on my first md90 next month. When doing a trip I'll try to select planes I haven't flown on before or pick a new airport for a layover if its practical. Most of my routes are serviced by A319/20/21 planes.

The MD-90 uses the same engines as the Airbus A320 and the A319

MD-90 is a great aircraft and has a great engine sound, the only drawback is it takes quite some for it to take off.

+waito tong only when its heavy as hell or its hot or both. Also when you have tons of runway, severely De-rated takeoffs are in order.

Sounds alot like the Airbus A320! They use IAE-V2500 engines too!!!

Why did they set full flaps on the ground?

Because old planes are old. Old depressurized hydraulics allow the flaps to droop until pressurized on certain MD 80s and 90s......This is why the flaps went up when the engines were started. As the engine starts turning so do the engine driven hydro pumps. The system repressurizes and brings the flaps back up. Similar effect when you see the elevators and ailerons droop after hydraulics are depressurized a long time

I love the md-90 because of that engine growl and the noise it makes. Its a shame they merged with boeing and stopped making these aircraft. To be fair the md-80's are inefficient to the planes now
