I watch and listen to a lot of guitar teachers, and appreciate them all. But if I had to say who teaches me the most per minute of watching, who provides the most digestible knowledge and understanding, the most USEFUL training, then there is no contest at all, it's not even close, it's Jonathan. Just wonderful. Very grateful. Thank you so much 👍👍👍

Have ro say John you are the most instructive teacher for us basic players, I've come across on the internet so far. I learnt more today watching 4 of your videos than I have in a couple of years from trying to follow all the others. I've been enjoying your series and learning so much. I started guitar years ago (like about 35 yrs) and mainly because I am a singer and wanted to play along. I took lessons for about 3 months but my kids were small and I never seemed to have the time to practice. But now that You tube has sites like yours - its truly amazing. I`ve learned so much from your posts and I practice along with you. Thank you. Thank you. And Thank you again. You are amazing. No one I knew who plays guitar has ever helped me like you have. My husband is so impressed with how much I`ve improved since I`ve started to study with your lessons. Some of those basic things you`ve taught that now seem so simple have made a huge difference in how I understand music on the guitar. Like how to hold my pick, how to find notes on each strings etc. I really appreciate your patient way of explaining and the logic to it all. I wish I would have had you as a teacher so many years ago. My focus was always on my singing with the guitar to accompany me but at the same time I`ve always loved the sound of solo guitar, saxophone, violin etc. because of their beautiful sound. You`ve helped me to bring out the better sound of the guitar - even tho it`s to accompany my voice - as a beautiful sound on its own. thank you so much Marilyn

Great tips and lesson ! thanks a lot , I am another old timer at 54 years young who started learning 4 months ago , something I wanted to do for the last 40 years but just got round to it now ! I really enjoyed this lesson today , I have been practicing for atleast an hour every day ,sometimes 2 to 3 hours , I am hooked and driving everyone mad at home ! I have a very strong ear for music since childhood and if I heard something 40 years ago the notes are still fresh in my mind and it is now quite enjoyable to find those notes on the guitar and play the tunes that had been playing in my head for all those years ! i surprised my teacher when I played bits and pieces of the songs that I worked out from memory and he asked me if I know C- maj scale and I said no ! I only know G maj scale . and he showed me it and then I found out I was actually playing the notes on that scale .

Hi Jonathan - great lesson! I like how this gives players a kind of permission to experiment more freely with chords in a way that doesn't bog them down with too much theory. I personally love theory, but it's also nice to approach chords this way...With your method, people can create sus/add/9,11,13 etc type chords without necessarily knowing the name of the chord/s they've created and without feeling they need to know the name. I was thinking to myself, how much of the chords character should stay intact while it's being experimented with - so I thought, surely atleast the root note...then I remembered some jazz guys go rootless lol!

Excellent lesson. I've been looking around for ways to make my rhythm playing more interesting and I didn't know some of these voicings. Btw, for your readers, on using the F maj 7 as an alternative to the F, you can also use similar fretting to achieve a regular F chord - all you have to do is mute the skinny string with the finger fretting the B string. With the extra advantage that it's movable. Similarly for the barred minor chord. A lot of people play those chords that way by default,
