I know people are always iffy to talk about financials, but once this house is finished I would love to hear a price breakdown of what this all cost you vs actually buying a house, and the man hours you put into it. Has been super interesting watching you do this build so far and can’t wait for what else you have to do.

Crane: it's been a wild ride. I've built a lot of commercial stuff, but the story really starts after this guy Andrew bought me. That was a trip. We built a castle and I ended up crashing at the bottom of a hill. Then this guy rescued me and things have kinda smoothed out a bit.

Great progress. Thoroughly enjoyed how you used the rebar. No shortcuts. A home that will last 500 years.

That back deck slope is about 5/16" in 4 ' . that's more than enough . The whole project is looking great J . I've been doing this 40 years and have no suggestions or criticisms . Top notch work overall ! You will be forever proud . I love the way you treat your family with your expertise , 'coz let's face it , it's for them that you do what you do . I remember back in the 50s 60s in Puerto Rico houses were make out if concrete, was no ICF back then but is the same principal rebar, concrete and 8-in x 8-in x 16-in Standard Cored Concrete Block, even the roof was made out of concrete, I know houses that still standing today from 60 or more years, now is done with concrete forms. this house is going to be really strong as long as you seal the espouse concrete for the whether, love the videos.

Loved all your videos. This job is a work in progress, you alter your plans to suit your ideas, which change as they always do. I am retired so know nothing about IFCs, this is a joyride for me. Plastic ties are quicker and easier, but an engineer would tell you that wire ties with a pull/spiral twister tool offer more rigidity and strength. I live and build on a Hurricane Island (BERMUDA) where 12' 10 and 8" concrete walls are concrete re-inforced filled. I've worked on a few ICF builds here. Very interesting build you are doing ! Congrats on the progress ! I'm VERy impressed by your planning of detail !

Every time I see one of those concrete vibrators it makes me think of when I went to a building supply and the salesman said some guy came in on Valentine's day and bought the smaller Makita with the 3ft wand on the end.

The thought processes go deep in this sort of build, been great to watch it evolve from the beginning and turn to reality. Really nice to see the concrete bucket finally being used, I'm sure we'll be seeing it a lot more as the walls etc are poured unless you go with the more expensive but probably quicker pump. The snow removal system sounds like a must have for that part of the world...

Hi Jesse, I had to smile the way the concrete truck ran away 100 feet every time you lifted a bucket of concrete. Great job by the way.

Well so far I have been able to keep up on what and why your doing different things. The pipe on the deck, yell good idea to melt the snow/ice. I never thought about closing it in later, good idea. Heated roof and driveway, yell you got me on that one, why not now instead of thinking about it later and wishing you had. I love watching guys like you that can think outside the box and thinking ahead. People could learn a lot of stuff like you have if they just get out and work and don’t be scared to make a mistake, that’s the way you learn sometimes. I’ve worked my butt off to have and do stuff cause I couldn’t pay others all the time. Jesse I love your house and the way your building it. It probably will not be the last cement house you build unless you don’t want to build anymore for others. I’ve seen some nice bunkers for storm shelters that’s not half as big nor as nice as this basement will be when finished. A lot of them may cost as much as your house. This is going to look amazing when it’s finished.It’s very spacious too.My Grandson was fascinated watching you pour the concrete..I was always a kid who asked questions and spent a lot of time while we lived on the site where our home was being built.They we’re running late and we had to move so we were placed in a show home for a while.So it was fun watching the men working .Kids don’t have questions anymore .Such a shame.I love what you have done so far.It’s going to be a wonderful place to live 🥰

I can barely build something out of wood, let alone concrete so this type of project is awe inspiring. Watching your thoroughness and attention to detail is incredible.

Grettings. I'am from Croatia (small country next to Italy) and we traditionally build houses and buildings with bricks, concrete and iron bars. And I was totally shocked when I saw how you build your house. Maybe the reason for that is because my country is in earthquake zone but I respect your way.

Cool seeing the Pettibone in action

Use copper for your drip edge. It is expensive, but you have a beautiful house going and you definitely do not want to cheap out on something so visible. Have the kids hand hammer a strip with a rubber or rawhide mallet. Hem both edges and fold just greater than 90 degrees. Slip it into that saw cut you described. It'll be beautiful for many decades and the kids will always be able to take pride in the help they provided.

Crazy to think how much living and memories will be done on that slab. I think it would be cool to have the second deck only come out half and far as the one below it letting light and air hit the one below

You're progressing nicely Jesse. Your pitches on gutters is steep over here in the UK 🇬🇧 they are at 1" over 50 feet. That is steep compared to the Romans who built canals and aqua ducts down hills with a pitch of 1/2" over 50 feet. They can still be found around Europe.

Love the build! I worked in a rebar shop years ago, cutting & bending using the proper equipment. Bending that much rebar by hand is a lot of manual labour. This is one of the best and maybe the best floor support substructure I've seen used in styro insulated floors. Thanks for info on side insulation! All the best to you and yours in 2022.!

Might I suggest at the next pour have a 3x3x12 form somewhere out of the way where in future you can bolt your rebar bender, tubing benders and other assorted tools that need anchorage. Tire changers that kind of thing. You can drill and put a variety of threaded inserts for many different tools. A short bolt in each anchor keeps the dirt out until needed as well as water and ice. Bury it in the ground to the top.

I was for sure that you were going to have to install more support under the concrete floor. But, you used the styrofoam and I wasn’t sure how that would effect the weight of the concrete. Excellent job with it all !!! Looking forward to seeing how you finish it. Keep up the great work

This without doubt is the most painstaking method of building a house I have ever witnessed with the exception of Andrew Camantara's Castle. In the end your house will last a 100 years or more so perhaps it's worth it. When the "end of time" comes it will serve it's purpose. Not being negative here Jesse, you are building it the way you want it. Better than this piece of plastic crap I live in which be luck if it lasts 45 years. The good news is I'll be long gone before it falls totally apart.

oh man. those rebar bending days look like they were tough. one thought on your drip edge: you may need more than just an aluminum flat. some kinda extrusion that has an edge on it like a gutter drip edge - to keep the water from wanting to wrap around it and pouring back at the base of the house. water has a mind of its own. just a thought - might be worth testing - with some decent volume of water - to see if it releases or not with what ever shape you go with.

One thing that was getting me was the concrete bucket use. It was meant to lay down to fill, so the driver could see to fill it. Then it stands upright when you lift it with the crane. Just something to think about for the next time you use it.

I agree, zip ties are a good way to bind the rebar.

do a 1/2 round gutter along the front edge of the deck and downpipe it into your sub floor system, it will keep the doorway area dry and you can use the water

when time permits it id increase the size of the Jetski pond 2 to 3 times and use the fill id dig out to level off and fill in the marsh some more so I can have more room for food production like some apple and cherry trees, potato and kraut as well as corn and grain maybe a shallow pond area with rice even .... anyways chalk the pond to stabilize PH and reduce floating clay particles then you can stock it
