Have hosted several 356 events and attended many others. Your “resurrected” car would garner as much interest as any of the best restored cars on the field. Much more interesting, you did the work where many owners would not dare to attempt such a feat, including me. Nicely done and this car will continue to gain in it’s notoriety and of course value as time goes on. Thanks for all the quality work you share on this channel.

Jared: This was a very interesting video. I was curious how all of the costs would work out. I am sure you obtained decent deals; I know 356 parts are VERY expensive. So, thank you! BTW, if you are thinking about maximizing your revenue stream, be sure to include Walter in all your videos!! ::)) I know he is in many of them, but not all! Good luck on the next project....

Thank you Jerod for taking so much trouble with your videos. Your explanation of the real world costs I find particularly fascinating. I to have a KZfaq channel (nothing to your scale) but I have never thought of the money side, but that does not mean I don't find it interesting. It is a real treat to see such skill and then as a bonus, an honest costing of the car and materials and parts. My channel is directed at the "how to" sector as I am trying to pass on some of my skills to others. Thanks again - Tony Hillyard

The last car I brought back from the dead was a 1986 Mercedes Benz 190E. The add said blown motor. It went on to say he lent the car to a friend and the friend returned the car with the motor blown up. Needless to say everything I came to with that car had something wrong with it. It was in poor condition. It took me about eight months to replace bad parts and make repairs so it would pass the state inspection. I drove it for 2 months and almost hated to get rid of it.

Hello Jared! I hope all is well. I have been watching your channel for quite awhile and the running theme, to me; is the "Challenge". I know, you already have an estimated idea of costs when you do your projects but it's the thrill of knowing if you can do the project to it's entirety, is your challenge. You are extremely knowledgeable and you put it to use. You have dedicated followers who tune in just to watch you work, I know because I do. The absolute love of what you are doing to get to the end goal is apparent as we watch you problem solve and accomplish that goal to move to the next. I really appreciate what you do, I respect your talent in doing it and acknowledge your charity for sharing. Thanks again a true fan.🤘🤘🤘👏👏👏🎆🎆🎆

I made a similar decision. I bought an Alfa from BHCC for $13K versus buying much better examples for $65-80. I’m building for historic long distance car rallies and I have no intention of restoring to original. I wanted a 356 but I couldn’t justify the cost of the project car. I like your channel very much- anthony

thx for the cost breakdown...very interesting to hear and not something a lot of other channels will share. Have enjoyed this series and its why I subbed. having the piece of mind of a rust free porsche is priceless...buying a turnkey car, you just never know unless you blow it apart, which is not the point of buying a turnkey. and agreed, the scars tell its story, and this car def has a story...lots of people would understand that. excellent job

Absolutely my favorite build, but the VW Beetle is a close second in that contest. I rebuilt my 1964 Beetle engine after rear-end collision accident in 1974, and later I sold the car after discovering rust breakthrough behind the driver's seat. It had Porsche chrome 5 bolt wheels (made in West Germany) that I bought new in boxes for $10 each in 1974. Sold it in 1978, which is my biggest regret. But, we must move on, despite the bad decisions that we made in the past. Still looking for a Classic Beetle that I can afford that I can work on and restore.

I find it interesting when someone discusses “costs” of a car restoration project and limit the cost to out-of-pocket payments directly associated with the project. So many indirect costs are not included to give a true picture of the total cost. For example, someone’s time spent on the project is always a cost, use of shared resources is a cost (like electricity, heating and cooling), depreciation of all the assets used to assist in completing the project is a cost, lost opportunities to invest in other assets that would generate a return on investment is a cost, etc. A better analysis of a car restoration project’s cost might just be the enjoyment and fulfillment of doing something you’re good at and being able to keep paying your bills. I enjoyed watching the videos on this build, but the cost analysis really seems like a weak explanation to rationalize the project.

Really great information, Jared. Like some other commenters here, I too have looked at some project cars at BHCC, and wondered how the whole thing could price out, and yet still make sense. I mean... no problem having to put 40-50k (all-in) into a car, if you buy that car for $10,000 (hypothetical). But I can't understand how to make it work buying a beat-up car for $45,000 that needs $45,000 worth of work just to get it up to a daily driver. (I've been looking at SCs). It's all just getting crazy. (Has been for a while now)
