My mother's favorite song. Missed you. We shall sing together in heaven someday! We shall overcome someday.

This song was a Civil Rights song/hymn in the sixties. As long as there are supremacists of any color, religion, nationality, we will not know peace in our world. That gives us all an imperative to teach and live a peaceful life. We can learn to forgive others and ourselves. We can overcome the evils of this world.

+Jennifer Trippeer I believe what you are saying. Someone has to break the circle of violence and hate. Someday a victim of violence WILL turn the other cheek and say I WILL NOT HATE YOU whatever you do.

+Jennifer Trippeer We need to overcome alcohol supremacism, including the perverse alcohol supremacism over cannabis. It's an obstacle to a more peaceful world in a variety of ways.

hello jennifer - with google I want to answer your wonderful comment - I'm blind, please forgive me mistakes while writing! When I heard your comment I had to cry - now I know that there are still people who think like me as well. - Only when we learn peace to teach and to live we can approach each other, forgive each other and help each other. People have to get away from their nationalist traditions and turn back to god, then they can find peace - with themselves and with their next ones, no matter which skin color or nationality he belongs! This is what a former professional soldier tells you - I know exactly what I'm writing about - we should never be too proud to ask for forgiveness. we should not condemn anyone, because whoever is without mistakes - throw the first stone - so I have read it in the holy word of God. that was great comfort! I wish you peace !!!

She is singing in Woodstock Festival, It was the last of the 14 songs she sang, closing the first night (August 16, 1969), even she began to sing at 12.55 AM and continued to 2.00 AM, it means on August 17 th. Arlo Guthrie sang before Joan...and before Melanie........

I am so touched to see people young and old listening to the mesmerizing and inspirational Joan Baez. Below, I paste my posting from the KZfaq in which she sings this song in her kitchen. Please remember to also listen to and remember Leonard Cohen -- one of the most intelligent song writers of all time. Hallelujah, Leonard; we miss you! Posted on her recent version of We Shall Overcome: I sit here with tears in my eyes listening to the great Joan Baez during these days when we celebrate the memory of Leonard Cohen and the awarding of the Nobel Prize for Literature to Bob Dylan; as well as challenge the falsely acclaimed winning of the presidency by Donald Trump. While I sometimes miss the passing of the 60's, especially the music, I never expected them to return in this fashion. I was one of those New Yorkers who dropped everything in the summer of 1969 and flocked to Woodstock when I was working at a nearby summer camp at the ripe old age of 17! What a time it was. What a singer SHE was -- and still is. The world needs peaceful leaders like Joan Baez now MORE THAN EVER.

On June 25, 2009, Baez created a special version of "We Shall Overcome" with a few lines of Persian lyrics in support of peaceful protests by Iranian people. She recorded it in her home and posted the video on KZfaq and on her personal website. She dedicated the song "Joe Hill", to the people of Iran during her concert at Merrill Auditorium, Portland, Maine on July 31, 2009. Love You Joan

What do we have today, who that are 20, who never knew that dream? Nothing but resignation. Please, brothers and sisters, let's keep hoping for a better world. Money, hatred, contempt, selfishness should not rule the world we all are part of it.

However, deep the valley of despair, however, long the tunnel may seem this song gives me strength to never give up. Why? Because love has ultimately always triumphed over hate. It may take days, months, years, decades even centuries but man will one day overcome inequality and all men will get equal opportunities to live a better, fuller life. Thank you Pete Seeger, Joan Baez. Salute the African American Civil rights movement and all other movements to throw off the yoke of tyranny. You may call me a dreamer but I'm not the only one
