She actually kept a record of fans' names, their spouse's name and their children's names and their birthdays and always sent them birthday cards and Christmas cards. She did this herself. Her Sunday luncheons and pool parties were coveted Hollywood occasions and the guests included everyone from the greatest stars to the lighting guys to extras on her current film. She always knew the names of everyone who worked on her films and everything about their families. She never talked about it, but her mother lived with her and she helped with the fan mail.

@@chrisgrandpre6063 She drank due to the torment of her own past and the weight of her career. And Christopher was never hit even though she was not too affectionate with him. I think history has already shown worse mothers than Crawford and it is time not to forgive her but to let her rest and give her the recognition she deserves and that she had in life and not only that it seems that at that time there was only Marilyn. And a person who has had a bad mother tells you this, but Joan's story is very strong and very sad. I think she was the most brilliant woman Hollywood ever gave. Oh, and taking the alcoholism out of a dead person for judgment is disgusting. And less when that alcoholism encouraged his mistreatment of children and used it as an escape from his pain.

She was gorgeous! Definitely from a bygone era. She truly looked impeccable no matter the occasion. And she was always so gracious, and proper. She knew she was a star, and she carried herself as such. I know there’s a lot of scandal associated with Joan Crawford, but no one can say she wasn’t a star!

Nope! A rather ridiculous effort on your part to put her on a pedestal and worship her as a idol. Her beauty had faded by this point and she was a caricature of herself. It looks like she was impersonating the drag queen impersonations of her.

Joan was more than delighted to be there, off set she was ridiculously shy. Yes, yes her hair is a shock to many of you, but for the time it was the style - especially for someone like Joan. I know her reputation is festooned with good and bad, but I can't help but love her work and her spirit. People like her and her cohorts are no longer created, there are just a handful left existing. . The times of when you stood for a lady has been drowned by progression.
@mikehudson8884
@mikehudson8884 6 жыл бұрын
Eloquently put, it makes me smile all the comments about the hair which I personally think is a work of art and you're so right it was of a time, Dusty Springfield had exactly the same hair 'do' around this 60s period no one goes on about that so much. I think Joan was always a lady and carried herself well in public appearances, her humbleness is very endearing.

I agree..... People forget that that was the style of that era back then... and yes, they don't make 'em like that anymore. There are way too many conflicting accounts to really know what happened anyway so who's to judge? She made something of herself from virtually nothing and how many people can say that of themselves today?

I have a photo of Joan when she was a student at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and she already looked like Joan Crawford. Thought she often said she was miserable at Stephens and was not equipped for college she was in fact well-known and much-liked and when she decided to leave the President of the college moved heaven and earth to get her to stay. But she was making a good decision. She needed those years to get a foothold in cinema and it not take her long to became a star. She was known for working hard, being prepared and often staying overnight in her dressing room to get her lines ready for shooting in the morning.

Miss Joan Crawford was beyond elegant in this appearance. She was actually adorable with how shy she was about touting her own accomplishments. It's hard to believe that there was a child abusing monster behind all that glamour. Also, I wish shows today had as much etiquette and dignity as this one. Now guests show up on shows like the Tonight Show and they look like they just rolled out of bed.

Would her daughter have written that book I if she had lost her inheritance. I love my Mum, whacked with a wooden spoon, slipper and slaps. I was being a little cow. At that time unfortunately, back then they had canes at schools! It's not right, NO WAY but I bet a lot of bloody mothers back then did the same! I'm not condoning her behaviour. The book said she tried to strangle her? If she had inherited from her Mum, I don't think the book would have been written. God kidd couldn't breathe round their Mum's.

YAWN, it's 2018, it's debatable how much of that book was fact and how much was fiction, Christina was royally pissed that she was left out of Crawford's will and faced public humiliation back in '77, frankly, it was a rather shitty thing for Crawford to have done, but that's by the way.

Justin Soto- depends on which child you listen to. Joan's two other daughters said Joan was a great mother. Maybe just sour grapes from being cut out of the will, but Christina's spent the last 40 years milking her sob story at drag shows and keeps inventing progressively more outrageous stories about her mother. Her sister Cathy sued her for making false statements and won. Her credibility at this point is seriously compromised. I'd suggest, before you start browbeating and telling people why they shouldn't like something you look into the matter a bit further first. Otherwise, just accept that decades after Joan Crawford's death, she still has fans.

No... wire... hangers. What's wire hangers doing in this closet when I told you: no wire hangers EVER? I work and work 'till I'm half-dead, and I hear people saying, "She's getting old." And what do I get? A daughter... who cares as much about the beautiful dresses I give her... as she cares about me. What's wire hangers doing in this closet? Answer me. I buy you beautiful dresses, and you treat them like they were some dishrag. You do. Three hundred dollar dress on a wire hanger. We'll see how many you've got if they're hidden somewhere. We'll see... we'll see. Get out of that bed. All of this is coming out. Out. Out. Out. Out. Out. Out. You've got any more? We're gonna see how many wire hangers you've got in your closet. Wire hangers, why? Why? Christina, get out of that bed. Get out of that bed. You live in the most beautiful house in Brentwood and you don't care if your clothes are stretched out from wire hangers. And your room looks like some two-dollar-a-week furnished room in some two-bit back street town in Okalahoma. Get up. Get up. Clean up this mess.
