I danced like that when I saw them at Crawley Leisure Centre back in 81. Everyone thought I was a loon, my brother still does ! Looking at him dancing like that back then makes me realise the rest were all loons and I was the only one on his plain ! Quality stuff. Their music always created so much atmospheric emotion.

That ending always gets to me Maybe It's when all the synths come together and the mellotron pushes to the forefront. Plus the strain in McCluskey's voice adds a fair bit or emotional gravitas that's only driven home by the percussion

I loved these guys when I was a wee teenage lass in the 80’s. Then I kind of forgot about them. I’m 52 now and I’ve rediscovered them. Loving it. Especially Andy and his dancing. He is devoid of “ self-aware coolness” which, in my eyes, makes him the coolest. He totally feels the music and just don’t give a fuck. Love that shit.
@MattF3402 жыл бұрын
Agree, its not really "dancing" as such, more channelling the music and emotion of lyrics though your body.
@neilbaybutt759 Жыл бұрын
52 next week and always return to this or either Souvenir or Enola Gay. A band ahead of its time without the over extravagant nature of Adam and the Ants/ Duran Duran or others in the 80s where image seemed more important than music.

@TheFibtastic8 жыл бұрын
+TheWatsonGreen I'd recommend starting with Architecture and Morality then taking in Dazzle Ships in their entirety. Skip most of what came after, but go back and then get the earliest stuff. Even they will admit that their most popular song "If you leave" killed them as a viable band, and didn't represent their sound.
@Hastur8768 жыл бұрын
The 2 albums you mention are from the period where they tried to be a serious, artistic band. It was great stuff but commercial suicide. But props to them for sticking to their guns that long, while the label wanted another stupid Thompson Twins.
