Chris I agree I discovered LT. Com. Willink about a week ago. He has been an inspiration in my like telling it......How would a say a more modern way of saying the hard things ; the way my Grand-dad would tell me how to approach life.( God, Country, Family) The war stories remind me of my Grand-dad (Army Bataan Death march Survivor), and the times he would tell me bout those things(rarely) from time to time.

Loved his answer about the prisoners at GITMO when he was on JRE with Tait Fletcher. Joe asked what about the prisoner that's been at GITMO for years? Do we send him back now? Andy says "No we kill him" Tait Fletcher says "you just killed Nelson Mandela" Andy's like "what"? Wrong. He's no Nelson Mandela smfh.

Mike brother hang in there, your body will heal, it just takes time and effort. Try to sleep 8hrs per day, go to bed early, wake up early. Eat nutrition dense foods. Move the limb or body part you have injured. Try some cannabis edibles for your pain control. If you are not disable or in too much pain workout hard 3-4 times per week in a cross training like setting. Dont give up.

The man is one of the most humble savages ever. SEAL team 6, a part of 2 very high profile rescues, etc., and constantly says he had an "average" military career. If average is doing what 95% of the military doesn't/can't, then sure, it was average. Haha. But it just shows his level of intelligence and maturity.

I needed this. It might be too much for such a public forum, but i have been having similar struggles as Andy since i was medically discharged, and daily i feel like nothing i will do will matter after being a warfighter, albeit a warfighter far less skilled than jocko or andy. it just made me realize that even in this struggle, i am not alone. Two of my best spent hours in a very long time! The letter at the beginning is beyond remarkable . 52:40 I was injured in the line of duty in the mid nineties.... Almost 40 surgeries later, still not fixed. Chronic pain 24 hours a day. And find myself walking on a hospital floor by rooms with people a hundred times worse than me. Leaving that place telling yourself suck it up buttercup you have no right to complain, people have it a ton worse than you. I find the whole experience therapeutic as hell. God bless our service member's past and present, LEO's and 1st responder(s) everywhere.

I seriously don't get how people think that the military is fighting for "our freedom". That's just rubbish. Heresy? First off, I am a veteran, so I'm not anti- military. In fact, my eldest is a USMC Captain. Our guys in the military are some of the best and brightest our country has to offer, so it's not a knock on them personally. I love the guys I served with and always will, but..... There's no fighting for freedom. Take a good frigging look and tell me, heck tell YOURSELF that you're more free today than we were in 1980. Not a chance. Since 9/11, this country has become less and less free and it's getting worse. The military is full of great guys, but they aren't keeping anyone free

Great podcast Jocko! At the 1:13 mark, you mention "dealing with the bureaucracy" and I think you hit a great point. You've given great guidance from a leadership perspective, but what about subordinates? As a young E3, dealing with the "hurry up and wait" and "work harder not smarter" was extremely frustrating and effected moral. Even now, as a civilian professional many of my fellow team-members and coworkers face the same dilemma of frustration and it can effect our performance. If you could elaborate more on this mental judo in dealing with ineffective leadership and bureaucracy and come up with a battle plan to overcome, I think that would make for a great discussion. Thank you, Sir!

Man ,Jacko you have the ability to write and read a article that open the eyes of people who choose to keep them closed . You're words make my emotions go all over. This is great . I wish we had people like you running for office . It would be nice to have persons who earned respect and knowledge rather than demanding that what they have not earned . Even though this one wasn't you're letter . Still

Incorrect. Andy was at DevGru early in the GWOT. Gold Squadron. Jocko was ST1&ST3 in his career. But never 6.

This was back before Andy had made the rounds on the podcast circuit and started his own podcast. Early on he didn't dive too deep into the fact he was with the Command. He still doesn't really dive too deep into his DEVGRU time other than when he got wounded and a few other key missions.
