SEP. 14 1984 - On a cold, gray and brooding afternoon in Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs probably delivered the coup de grace to the Mets today with a 7-1 whipping that left the Mets eight and a half games behind first-place Chicago with only 14 to play.

Loved those 1984 cubs. So disappointed when they lost in the play-offs.

September 14, 1984. Years later, Jody would say this about that game "We had a 3-0 lead and I guess it was the bottom of the sixth. I hit a grand slam off of Brent Gaff, and as I was running around the bases, the fans got louder and louder and louder. It was almost like they realized we were going to win the division as I was circling the bases. That was the highlight of my career."

I'm still limping from the 84 Cubs - I was just a kid and they were all my heroes......can't complain about it anymore as we finally got the WS win in 2016....But I found 84 more heartbreaking than 03 somehow - simpler times maybe...

Jane B ....in 1989 Jody was with the Atlanta Braves...saw him play against the Pirates in August of that year at Atlanta...

I was too! ... and you're right, it was So loud! I had my binocs on Jody as he connected with that pitch .... my buddy Brad was sitting next to me and he had Just sat down with about 3 drinks and a plate of nachos, and he had to Struggle to Not drop it all 'cause everyone was going bezerk! ....
