No one's trying to remain RETRO. There's always that one pinnacle project that an artist is remembered for. Michael Jackson? THRILLER! Beyonce'? SINGLE LADIES! Prince? PURPLE RAIN but none of these artist have ever attempted to duplicate the success of their formula. They evolve and that's exactly what Jody did. She could've but that's not what true artist do. They CREATE and this is why she's a well respected earning her many number one hits, something some singers can't admit too...Hint, hint!

lol, ok. Who can please all of the people all of the time, unless stuck in a box? There would be those who would say - said artist is stuck in a box and the usual formula. Artists who choose to grow and explore can't please everyone all the time, I've never tried to anyone- just to be 'me.' I'm proud of all of my music - the commercial, the non-commercial - the underground, etc. It's all representative of me as an artist, a writer, producer, etc. - it's fine if only 2 appealed to you.

I was doing a lot of traveling and passed thru Phoenix for some work related training when this was a big hit. It was competing with Kriss Kross's hit "Jump", for the number one spot. I think it was around 1991. Around the same time I passed thru L.A. the Bay Area and Columbus, Ohio where it was getting no air play. That still puzzles me, how a song can be that big in one town and not heard somewhere else. Jody Watley, Bernadette Cooper, Betty Davis, my 3 favorite Divas!
