When I was in college in the 80s I had just turned 21 and after a few months I was bored of the San Diego bar scene. I wanted to go to Los Angeles to hit their bar scene. My buddy got us as far as Orange County. We were at a bar near Cal State Fullerton and I was dancing with a pretty gal when I heard the drum beats of this song come on, there, on each wall motorized projector screens dropped from the ceiling and this song came on. My mind was so freaking blown. I couldn't help but watch her. The song ended, the screens went back up Never to return the rest of the night> Oh yeah, Jody. You are magical.

One of the most gorgeous creatures to ever grace this Earth. She is like a modern day Nefertiti. The fact that she has tremendous talent and style in addition to that breathtaking beauty makes her one of the most captivating musical stars we've ever had in the U.S. For awhile I thought she had a chance to give Madonna a run for her money, but the quality of her albums started to slip after the first two and she was unable to regain the necessary momentum to reclaim her prominence.. Regardless, she will always be a favorite of mine, and I have to say, when people are unaware of her it drives me nuts!
@jamoky2 жыл бұрын
You’re wrong about her albums slipping though, lol…. she made consistently good music. The “machine” changed directions… that’s what happened.

Her music quality did not slip, she made several great records after her first two. I think hers sales dipped partly because she was growing as a person and artist and her music became more mature and not all dance pop RnB. Her Affairs of the Heart album is her best work (in my opinion) with excellent dance, mid tempos and ballads with adult/real life themes and she sounds amazing. Sometimes music fans put artists in a box and don't or can't embrace their growth. It has happened to many singers.

...ahh, kids, the 80's..a little story; Miss Watley, don't get mad, when I tell you this... : ( ...Spring '87, Jody puts out her MCA debut LP; I was TRANSFIXED with this goddess....you could not tell me ANYTHING bad 'bout this here GURL!! I bought ALL the singles, ALL the 12's, taped ALL the videos...I think I put her first kid through College!! ...Early '88, Jody releases 'Some Kind', and I lose IT; I was praying..PRAYING, that it goes Top 10 on the pop charts; she was DOING the thing then; fashion-y, Dance-Pop R&B, with Euro overtones, High-Fashion Music Videos...ALL of IT. Then, the single remix 7" cover comes out, with Jody wearing a black turtleneck, with her legendary 'hoop earrings'...on the cover, her mouth is closed, with some red lipstick on them. I thought she would look 'hotter', if you will, if her lips were 'parted', and I took a pencil, and 'erased' her lips parted, on the cover! : 0 ...so, INSANE little person that I am, went to a record store, in April '88, and..... I can't BELIEEEVE I did this......ERASED her lips parted, on ALL the picture sleeves, on the 45's at a Sam Goody in Kings Plaza, Brooklyn, hoping she'd go Top 10 on the Pop charts!! ..AAACK! .....then, the NEXT WEEK, she got in, and peaked at #10, on the Pop charts!!!! ...so, even though I defaced your product at the time, Miss Watley, I was doing it out of LOVE!! ...ha-HAAAA! ...You're 'Some Kind' of WOMAN, Miss Watley, THANKS!! ; )
