I watched the clip of Joe's spot yesterday and the moment he started getting into private texts he was making a huge mistake. As a lot of people have said already, as a media guy you don't go talking about that kind of stuff out in the open. I love Joe but he was 100% wrong here, he forgot he is a professional first and a fan second.

I got into the sports broadcasting business because of Joe B, over 20 years ago. I still like him, but goddamn, I can't believe he needs to be told NOT to read someone's texts on the air w/o their approval. That Gio had to hammer in his head it wasn't the content of the texts it was the act of reading of the texts regardless of content. For God sake, what do you think the rest of the coaching fraternity thinks of Saleh? Or owners who see a coach who has a terrible record texting with a superfan? UGH. There's tons of media/journalists who are friends with coaches and players and building that trust that private conversations won't go public is crucial. This guy has been airing out private conversations with Salleh for months now on Tiki's show and toeing the line of what he should reveal publicly. His trust is forever ruined. This is so embarrassing. As a media person you have a responsibility to confidentiality. You should know via common sense that you are able to hear things that most of us aren’t supposed to hear. I know he is remorseful about it but the damage is done. As a fan of the game some things don’t need to be said. You can tell based on how they carry themselves that things are either good or bad. NY media is relentless and negative before they will ever be positive and it’s a shame. But the guys are right. How is anyone in that locker room supposed to trust their coach if they just found out that he has secret convos with Joe over golf or whatever. Secondly, Zac Wilson will NOT be back next year as QB of the NY Jets and allegedly doesn't want to play behind this line for the remainder of the year anyway. Finally, Robert Saleh, fortunately or, unfortunately will likely to return as HC next year for one last attempt but with a real QB. So, allowing Joe to say what Saleh REALLY thinks and then back track publicly is just a typical move. Joe Benigno is his friend, he's just the sacrificial lamb deflecting for Saleh. What Joe did was wrong no question, however because his interpretation was not accurate (which I knew from the beginning) means that he did not accept throw salah under the bus. It’s one thing if what Joe interpreted was accurate, but it clearly was not. This will be water under the bridge with a win this week.
