No disrespect to Brady but Joe is the best quarterback I ever saw play. The guy out played Marino, Elway and Esiason in three of his four Super Bowl wins.. What a legend!

Like Joe told Eddie D, if he hadn't been traded the Niners would have won more than ONE more ring. I could easily see Joe winning 3 more rings for the Niners. It took Steve the best team money could buy to win his ONE ring (as a starter.) That team is why we got the silly salary cap.

Joe mightve won 1990, but was knocked out. He wins 2 max; 1992, beating Dallas when he was backup and 1994, the one Steve Young won. Montana wouldve retired after. Joe wouldve struggled to get past the 90s Cowboys. That 1992 and 1994 NFCCC being his best shots.

Well that's a bombshell. I was a die-hard Niners fan at the time and never knew Montana was healthy as early as mid-'91 (their first playoff miss in almost a decade).

Y'all would have beat the Cowboys in the playoffs if he had been put in. I remember screaming at the TV to b put him in the damn game! He lit up the lions in that last game of the year. Then he came to KC and took us further than we'd ever been since Lenny was in town.

Joe forgot about 1987. They had the #1 Offense and #1 Defense. They were upset in the 1st round by Minnesota, but that team could have won the Super Bowl. If you think about it, they had the talent to 4-peat.

Keep this is mind: Marino threw 48 TDs in 1984, when you could actually murder the QB and stab the WR in the first 5 yards. The era then was world's away more difficult and punishing.

Joe Montana has a point, until Purdy is healthy and/or Trey Lance proves himself the 49ers should not send Jimmy Garoppolo packing.

I don't care what brady or anyone else ever does, joe montana will always be the GOAT...What he did when defenses were hunting QB's to hurt them is incomparable...Going against hitters like mike singletary, howie long, lawrence taylor, reggie smith, and steve atwater, he set the standard for toughness..The guys now talk tough but are wimps...

Any qb that started their career in the 2000s should be put in a separate category. The passing game has turned into flag football in 2003.

That's not quite a fair assessment, but I get your point. Quarterbacks are still being injured today, yet you are right, they were hit much harder and more frequently in the era that Staubach, Montana, Bradshaw etc etc etc played. For that reason, Joe Montana is the greatest quarterback I've ever seen. He was more mobile than Tom Brady, very arguably more accurate, especially on the long ball, and was hit much more frequently and harder than Tom Brady ever was. I think Brady would have been great in that era, but there's no way he plays to age 45-plus back then. His body couldn't have endured it.

As a lifelong 49er fan i love Joe but my dad mentioned something years ago that i didnt realize was true until i started paying attention: Joe doesnt do anything for free. Anytime you see him do an interview or public appearance, hes always promoting sonething for a company or got paid to appear. My dad is also a huge Niner fan and is old enough to have seen ALL of Joe's games but he was really turned off years ago when he was in SF and happened to be in the same restaurant as Joe. A cute little 5/6 year old kid got the courage to walk up to Joe and ask for an autograph and Joe's response was "i dont sign anything for less than $100". The defeated kid walked back to his parents and asked for the money and the dad was disgusted and said screw it and left. Even in this interview he was obviously paid by Advance auto and back in '14 in Dan Patrick he only went on because he was doing a promotional gig for M&Ms. Made me realize that almost ALL of his appearances after playing were either paid for up front or was paid to be there as part of a promotion. Still a big fan obviously but Steve Young would never turn a kid away and ask for $100+ (probably more now in 2023) for a simple autograph.

Young got that $40 million annuity from the USFL, he doesnt have to beg for money. I dont know what Joe's financial situation is. He owned that big house w/ vineyard in the Napa Valley and sold it recently. I didnt know how he could afford that. He made a few million, but retired right when NFL salaries skyrocketed making all future QB's financially set after one contract.
@weegeemike
@weegeemike 9 ай бұрын
@RichV20 it's common knowledge that Young didn't get anything close to $40 mil from the USFL because the league folded. An annuity requires money to be put into it by the owners/players over time and obviously the league folded so barely any money was put into it. According to reports he only ever made a little over $4 million from that USFL contract.

@@weegeemike I'm goofing on the annuity legend. Joe seems to be hawking all kinds of things like Medicare on Tv and some brand every year at Media Row. Maybe Joe DOES need the money.

the all-time great....never lost a Super Bowl and did it with supreme style...my bitterness against the 49ers for what they did to Joe will never go away. Steve was not half the QB Joe was. Joe made Rice great and Rice made Steve what he became but never, never as good as Joe and history has shown that.
