And you don`t think it was hard for Bruce Lee to get into movies and become successful in Hollywood as a minority in the 1960s? I don`t swear that much but a better question would be what the fuck do YOU mean Bruce Lee was in movies and saying fuck you mean after that? The implication you seem to be making is that because he was a star in movies it wasn`t hard for him to get there is absurd. Bruce Lee had to work hard to get where he was, like Shannon Lee said, twice as hard as guys like Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio had to.

The problem I had with the movie is that it portrayed Bruce as cocky, arrogant and or goofy, like an inflated character of himself. He was the intellectual philosopher type of a person, I remember watching the Green Hornet on TV before his death. As far as his toughness and fighting abilities, at that time he could take on guys 50-100 lbs heavier than himself, maybe more and would have beat them. Compared to today's level of MMA he would still be amazing, maybe only able to give up 30-50 lbs. Bruce was confident in his abilities, but also very realistic how they compared to others. When asked who would win him or Muhammed Ali, he immediately said; Ali have you seen the size of his fists!? Lee 5-7 135 lbs to Ali 6-3 230 both at the top of their style of fighting. Other Martial Art pros of the day; Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis, Jim Kelly, Danny Inosanto and many more have all confirmed that Bruce was at a higher level than others, he hit like a heavy weight not a 135 lb guy. He was the first to combine nutrition, athletic training and a variety of martial arts that led to today's MMA. Although not a God or Superhero, he was unique, he was special, he was the first to achieve a much higher level of fitness and ability. As Mr Han said; you're skills are extraordinary and then Bruce killed that guy...

There are a number of pro ring fighters in the past who swore by Lee. Chuck Norris was one, Joe Lewis another, and Lewis "Skipper" Mullins, yet another just to name a few. Almost every significant fighter he featured in his movies was a champion, master or grandmaster in his/her own right and those were the ones he usually ended up squaring off with at the movie's end. Don't know why Tarrantino portrayed Lee the way he did. Honestly, I was a die hard Lee fan as a teen and drank the kool-aid of his invincibility. But his methods really did have substance as some of the fighters mentioned above were influenced by his methods and were successful. Bruce Lee was definitely not someone from my time but I have an uncle who I believe is now on his 60s that was highly influenced by him. I got to see my uncle be very passionate about teaching self-defense to his children including myself when I was only 5 or 6. Then a couple years later, I went to go live for a while in Guanajuato Mexico at my grandparents ranch. My grandparents had an old storage space with many old interesting things from those vintage disc players, large collection of folk music discs, magazines, etc. Anyhow, being the kid I was, I just kept looking around and I found two interesting items: an old book of one of Bruce Lee's fighting methods and some nunchucks made of solid wood with a metal chain attached. As I saw these items, I was an awe and right away my uncle came to mind. I brought it up to my grandparents and my mom, and they indeed confirmed with me that it was my uncle's stuff. Afterwards, they detailed some stories of my uncle beating up grown men who tried to even attack him with knifes. In fact, it turned out my uncle was known in his ranch to be the toughest man in the ranch among the majority of men in his community. My mom apparently got to even see him in action when having to stand up against guys who tried to get out of hand with him or his family members. Since he grew up in a ranch, I had assumed and still assume that all his Bruce Lee stuff material or learnings must have been brought up from Mexico City. Since I was told that him and my grandpa would go there often for work and stay for some long periods of time.

That would've been a good excuse, except Tarantino has defended his portrayal of Bruce Lee and has never said anything about it being warped in Brad Pitt's head. Based on his own words, Tarantino believed Bruce was a cocky guy who had a big mouth, and that's obviously how he chose to portray him. So Tarantino thought he was being accurate. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to have done very thorough research and probably just wrote the scene recklessly. Given that every other real-life character is treated with realism (even manson and his cult followers aren't parodied, just what happens to them), this is pretty disappointing.

Tarantino's depiction of Lee was disrespectful and inaccurate. There is no record anywhere of Lee acting cocky and arrogant like that. He idolized Mohammed Ali. Fadbamse How does it not matter? He literally brought MMA to life. Without him, martial arts would not be where it is today. His knowledge of martial arts, and this is said by many professional fighters, was years ahead of his time. What you are is a blind UFC fanboy who doesn’t know jackshit about martial arts. Literally every professional fighter today, and those who knew him back then (Gene LeBell, Chuck Norris, Bob Wall, Jim Kelly, Joe Lewis the kickboxer) give their utmost respect to Lee. Yet for some reason, a UFC fanboy thinks differently. Huh. I’d rather take the word of those who knew him then listen to a pointless argument from a hater who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Like I said: people don’t hold records on streetfights. Lee was a streetfighter. It’s the whole reason he began martial arts in the first place. It was literally impossible to be a rich kid in Hong Kong without running into trouble on the street. When he started martial arts, he was taught Wing Tsun by Yip Man. Lee would then take place in more streetfights from the Wing Tsun Clan against the Choi Li Fut Clan, a famous rivalry between to martial art groups, as far as I know. Your argument is invalid. Bye fanboy.

Bruce lee is, was, and will always be the baddest. He was fast, powerful, had excellent timing. He had a long reach which was why in a lot of photos he had his arms crossed. His only downside IF you want to call it that was his love for cinema and the desire to act.

Joe Lewis himself is a legend and what he says carries a lot of credibility. Also there's plenty of evidence that the greatest Muhammed Ali had the upmost respect for Bruce in regards to his abilities. He was much more than your regualar actor/stuntman. He was a great mind and a innovator.

Hot Take: Brendan is actually right on this one. The depiction of Bruce Lee was a fictionalization. As a fan of Lee and Tarantino, Quentin is the last one to be pointing out someone else’s ego. However, as a piece of art it was interesting and it sparked conversation. I don’t think it was entirely accurate, but it was one small part in the movie.
@chknrsandTBBTROX732 жыл бұрын
@Lock Bresnar That’s like saying the Rock or Brock Lesnar aren’t real fighters, just because they’re entertainers as well. Bruce was a trained martial artist and invented his own style, so he obviously knew how to fight.
@deamonsoul12 жыл бұрын
@@chknrsandTBBTROX73 fighting in a controlled environment is very different than fighting with someone for real. The issue with Bruce Lee worship is people assume that the movie him is the real him. I've been in martial arts for over 30 years, a Marine that's seen combat, and I grew up in Chicago during the 80as and 90s so had to deal with gang street fights as I never would join. The fighting styles used in each situation are different, but street fighting prepared me for combat more than martial arts could ever have in their unexpected nature. While this was a fictional take it's a completely reasonable outcome for a trained martial artist to be put down by someone who learned to defend their life rather than put on a show.

@@deamonsoul1 did you know bruce lee fight dirty af right? Consistently confuse opponent with noise, eyes poke, throat punch, knee kick and even bite. I don't know what street fights you on but usually a street fight end up with: - you got shit on because somebody got something in their hand (bottle, chair, etc..) and use it. - you got sucker punch into multiple kicks to the head or body. - you being thrown to the ground and got submission. With that do you really thinks in a "street fight" would he(bruce lee) not drop some body?

No different from any of the guys in the MMA. Just because they're in the MMA doesn't mean they're the ultimate badasses.
