On their last live, Brent said things had changed and Gulab backed out until he can get family out of Afghanistan for fear of retribution

100% To even say that Luttrell is "stretching the truth" is an insane understatement. That much I know without a doubt. The only thing I wonder about is if he was possibly pressured to give a different "official" narrative by higher ups so the SEALs didn't look terrible. That's the best I can give him. The Marines had already planned Red Wings and had already successfully nabbed multiple mid-high level targets by that point, for whatever reason SEALs ended up poaching it from them and they were switched to QRF. It made zero sense to give that mission to four SEALs, honestly. Especially when (If I remember correctly) those guys had never even done recon in Afghanistan prior to RW. Ended up getting a lot of guys from the 160th killed too, even though this should've been a totally routine mission. The whole situation is strange and bizzare in terms of OPs of that nature. They were literally inserted within a few hundred meters of the objective, which is absolutely insane. They did do several false inserts leading up to the OP but that just raised a huge red flag that said "There's definitely going to be an operation happening soon, heads on swivels.". I've never been able to understand the logic behind that whole debacle. Same for Neptune Spear; but at least that made some amount of sense because I've heard those CAG guys say they refused it due to lack of actual, tangible intel regarding the OP. Always seemed weird that the SEALs had that one too, which has lead to nothing but controversy and "he said" BS in regards to certain people wanting to take credit.
