Same. JRE lost a lot of my respects when they stopped doing the show live, but now that they removed the comment section it feels so disconnected. It used to be a hangout where we all watched the same episode together and had conversations in the comments, not it is just watching a prerecorded interview with no comments section at all. RIP JRE.

My wife and her friend decided to spend their afternoon at a movie theatre in Paramus, NJ. This was in the early 80s and the movie was "The Color of Money". It was actually a test audience run of the film but my wife wasn't aware of it at the time. Well they sat in the rear of the theatre and noticed that the very last row of seats was roped off. They thought it odd but didn't give it a second thought. They enjoyed the film and so did the audience. As the lights came on after the end of the film they got up to leave the venue and lo and behold there was Paul Newman and Tom Cruise sitting right behind them ! Back in those days an audience live preview before general theatre release was oftentimes done for last-minute editing hinging on the audience response. My wife asked for Paul Newman's autograph and true to his reputation Paul refused but did offer to shake my wife's hand which of course she agreed to. By the way she didn't recognize Cruise at the time since he was hardly known at the time and apparently he's non-descript in real life, a very short guy.

I have had a pool table in my house pretty much my entire life. When I was a kid in the 70's I could beat all my friends and most of my dad's friends. When I turned 19 I played in some local tournaments and my ego from beating all these adults and kids my whole life got stomped into the sticky floor of our local pool hall. I stopped playing for a couple years and when I got my own place I bought a pool table and practiced every day after work for a few hours. Then I went back to playing in some tournaments at like 25 and actually won a couple, but I was far from being good still. I still play now in my late 40's and still beat all my friends but when they tell me how good I am I don't get a big head about it. I know if I entered a tournament tomorrow I would be lucky to land in the top 20.

Thats the thing right there is the average dude in a bar has never really seen a really good player a lot of times so they really do think theyre pretty good or may even be a bit cocky... we all learn at the same end of the table down there racking em... but the guys i learned to play with were all professionally ranked or trick shot artists etc so when i got to where i felt like 'i can play a little' my assessment of my abilities was accurate but if i went to other places and told someone im basically ok... fair to average... etc they would end up feeling like i had intentionally downplayed my skill level... i wont say they felt hustled cuz i pretty much will not bet... i more or less dont gamble. Just not my vice and when it comes to pool i am an absolute choke artist lol. I just very much enjoy the game. My dad has a nice Mucci from the late seventies with all kinds of gems and metals inlayed into it that ill end up with one day... thats the modern equivalent of a balabushka i think. I broke and ran all 7 and sank the 8 ball. I said, "Next." with a dead flat face. He said.... No. I'm playing 1st game. I replied.... You just played the first game and you lost. He said he was racking again and playing the 2nd game. I broke, ran 6 balls. He missed and I sank my 7th and then the 8. I think pool is for talking and laughing A LOT with a little beer in between. Love you Joe, please start downloading the whole podcast to KZfaq please!! Its so much easier for me, plus i like watching the expressions and the emotions behind who ever is talking. Its easy to misconstrued conversations without seeing emotions..

Most of the space on my phone is used for the apps I need for hunting, fishing and few other things. Some of us in the real world don't have the brand new phones with all the bells and whistles, nor can we afford them. You can take your precious comment an shove it up your ass.

Color of money is probably my all time favorite film. I didn't get it the first few times i watched it. But when you begin to study it it's fantastic. The characters is what it's all about. Not so much the reality of the darkness of The hustler. The cinematography the soundtrack. The road trip and all the one liners are classic. Each character is someone you know if you spend time playing pool in room for long enough. The road trip they take really takes you through upstate New York area with its brutal winters, finally ending up in Atlantic City for the tournament. Every time you watch it you'll see or hear something you missed from previous viewing. Kind of like a great music album. Highly recommend it. A great escape into the world of pool in the 80s Not a date night film. Watch alone without the girlfriend to really absorb
