Jeff invites Eric onto the stage sparking rapturous applause. They play beautiful renditions of "Little Brown Bird" and "You Need Love" both Muddy Waters singles, the latter of which was ultimately revised and covered by Led Zeppelin as "Whole Lotta Love".
The link for the full set can be found below. One of Jeff's most intimate performances and self admittedly one of his most nerve wracking too.
Guitar - JB & EC
Bass - Tal Wilkenfeld - www.talwilkenfeld.com/
Keys - Jason Rebello - ccgi.rebello.plus.com/main/
Drums - Vinnie Colaiuta - www.vinniecolaiuta.com/

Up next to people like Muddy Waters? Clapton (as much as I love his fluidity) is a sort of replica of all that went before him. He'd say the same thing I reckon. But Jeff Beck .... man, this guy is a ONE OFF I'm just trying to figure out why he'd be knocking around with Johnny Depp
@jean-philipperameau4220
@jean-philipperameau4220 Жыл бұрын
@@jipangoo "Clapton (as much as I love his fluidity) is a sort of replica of all that went before him." I respectfully disagree. Also, who really cares about someone being a "replica"? All those English guitar players learned the black man's song and made it their own essentially. I don't know of many others who have the precision of Clapton (probably John McLaughlin, but that's an entirely different genre). Richie Kotzen also comes to mind in terms of passion, dexterity, and accuracy. Doesn't matter how fast Clapton plays; I can always hear every single note, and that's what I love about him. His guitar-style is so distinguishable; there are many times I didn't know Clapton played on a particular song, and I listed to the solo and thought to myself "Is that Eric Clapton?" and sure enough, it was him. Clapton has so much soul, passion, and love for the blues and the Tulsa-sound that it just emanates through every performance. Clapton knows how to play with incredible speed and precision without being sloppy (unlike Jimmy Page, who even though I thoroughly love, he admittedly very sloppy at time). I can distinguish every note Clapton plays in his solos. Not to mention his vocals. Dear lord, Clapton is seriously underrated as a vocalist. Not only can the man play an insane solo, but he can sing gorgeously at the same time. I believe Clapton is very much misunderstood in terms of music. Yeah, obviously the man himself doesn't have very good morals and has gotten involved in some very stupid controversies, but I'm here for the music, not someone's political, medical, or social views. And there's no denying that Clapton is the Crème de la Crème. Listen to Clapton's live performance "Nothing But the Blues" and "Live at Hyde Park". Astounding performances. I'd argue that Clapton too, is a one off just like Jeff Beck. No one is quite like him. And no one will ever be like Jeff Beck either.

That's the perfect comment. Thank you! Yes. Amazing just to see two greats up there enjoying themselves (what a privileged audience!. How on earth do you get into that place & at what cost!? Must have been staggering to just be there & so close). You hear far too much "Who's the best?" rubbish when it comes to these 2 (and others). The Clapton haters, etc. It's all a waste of space. Why need a best? They're too different to compare in such a way. Both geniuses in their own realms. There's so much more to consider when talking about guitarists. I respect them both enormously. I doubt either one of them (once old enough) ever thought in terms of who's the better player?

Mark W Jeff’s a great guitarist. Hendrix has his place in history, probably more for stage pyrotechnics and effects than actual playing. Jimi’s inadequacies as a guitarist show up when he tried acoustic-way overrated as a musician. Too many genres, too many metrics to name a single greatest, but all one has to do is watch a brief Gary Moore “shredding blues, rock, jazz” video, or Danny Gatton’s “compilation” or Red Neck Jazz” or consider Jerry Reed, Chet, SRV, Joe Pass, Roy Buchanan, & others to know that Beck, Hendrix have a lot of company at the top.

Heavy Mental Did you get to see Jimi play live? The pyrotechnics were showbiz, just to get things started. At the Fillmore or similar venues the band played very creative and soulful. Lots of very quiet passages where you could hear just how sweet he could play. I’ve been disappointed over the years at how little of that music has been made public. Jimi as a blues/jazz musician just doesn’t have the commercial appeal. 😎

Mark W I also saw people get up and leave his concerts due to the repetitiousness of certain amelodic lines and riffs that seem to go nowhere. The ere he lived, rebellion against the establishment, anti war, racial strife, drugs, freedom of expression, stage theatrics, electric effects, and folklore leads folks to place him on a pedestal. Seat Hendrix, unplugged, on your divan, next to any of dozens of other players and he shrinks. Seeing Terry Kath in ‘69 at Fillmore west up close, later, Danny Gatton in ‘77 the night “Humbler Stakes His Claim”was recorded, and SRV numerous times, up close, I forgot about Hendrix.

Got my first taste of slide guitar back in '69 when I first heard Mick Taylor on the Stones Get Yer Ya Ya's Out: Love in Vain and Street Fighting Man. Here, Jeff Beck takes the slide to the realm of the stratosphere.

jeff beck is so brilliant that i think he never had the commercial success as some others because he didn't stick with one genre but kept evolving. too bad he didn't getting jimmy page sitting back there in the back row to come up. would have loved to hear him and jeff.

Vinnie and Tal get a nice little groove going on. It's like, one moment I'm estimating tax withholding and then, somehow, both my feet are tapping, hands are clapping, shoulders are rolling back and forth, head's bobbing side to side, and I'm wearing out the bearings in my office chair.
