For tracks with a lot of drums, I don't use a limiter conventionally anymore. I just use saturation. And then I'll limit, maybe 0.5 to 1 db. I feel like the limiter changes the dynamics too much while the saturator actually leaves them alone, and replaces transient amplitude with more, higher frequency content.

When you do this professionally, you try both broadband and multibabd limiters. Don't rely on the L2 for Orchestral. It's not a bad choice, but there are far better Limiters that professionals use in real mastering studios...aside from don't things with analog great. I know this was an extremely watered down lesson on mastering for Orchestral, but something you should have mentioned for previewed loudness was stereo width and spectral balancing. Again, if this is just a basic video on what limiter settings to use, you could have done that in under a minute even using the Ian Shepard plugin.

Great video joel. What do you think about using other plugins like susage fattener etc to add subtle volume boast before limiting? I read somewhere that sausage fattner usually adds more bass frequencies but I don't really notice it.

Hey! I would be careful using these in mastering for orchestral music. They add a lot of not so subtle compression/distortion. If anything, subtle tape can sound good in mastering. It adds some harmonics so it can make the sound feel more "solid" without adding more bass.

Nice tips Joel! Btw, can you tell me why I should be using Fabfilter over the normal available FL studio eq's? I don't know why one eq is really better than the other. It's good to see you also use FL STUDIO and can answer. Thanks!

Hey! Regarding EQ, the difference in quality of sound will be extremely minimal between digital EQ's. It's more about where you cut and boost (even though fabfilter sounds a tiny bit cleaner). If you buy it, get it for the workflow, it's extremely easy to work with and the UI is great. That alone might help you get better mixes if you can just easily reach for bands, set some static, some dynamic EQ, etc. (The FL EQ doesn't do dynamic eq). So yes, it's much better and much easier to work with and also does dynamic EQ which is really useful, but technically if you replicated the same boosts and cuts on the FL one it would basically sound the same. I hope that helps.

What's the name of the symphonic and more relaxed track? I know it has to be ultra famuos but I can't remember where I heard it... Nice video by the way!
