The woman singing harmony and playing the piano is actually the songwriter of the song. Joey was pregnant when diagnosed with cancer and put her baby ahead of herself, delivered the baby, and actually made a heartbreaking decision to avoid deep bonding with the baby so she primarily bonded with Rory so once she had died, their daughter didn't feel the separation so deeply.

@@tonimlentner1255 The songwriter is Sandy Lawrence, a friend of the Feeks who wrote the song as she cared for her dying mother. Sandy is in the video playing piano and singing harmony. Neither Joey or Rory were the songwriters.

I started crying as soon as I saw Joey + Rory in the title. They were country and also Christian artists. I became a fan watching them on a Christian channel. You can just see the love of God shining out of her.

@@hazelmonday5414, actually Sandra Lawrence wrote this song. Joey was not even sick yet when she sang the song. Originally Roy was supposed to sing the song but then it was decided Joey would sing it. She was diagnosed with cancer very soon after her daughter Indiana was born. In 2014 and Joey first sang When I’m Gone in 2012

Joey was a Christian (and Rory still is), and they released a gospel album shortly before she passed. I remember listening to her sing "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" knowing she was dying at the time I was listening, and I bawled like a baby. What a lovely voice she had. Rory still writes and performs. Not too long ago, he released a video of him singing with his and Joey's little girl, Indiana, who was just a baby when Joey passed.

Joey and Rorys " When I'm Gone" was presented to them by a friend named Sandy Lawrence, who had written the song for her dying mother as a way to cope with her emotions. The Feek's were so moved by the song that they included it on their 12-track album!

Joey and Rory sang together before this. They have a beautiful daughter together too, who he's been taking care of alone since her passing. He's even got a song he sings with their daughter, Indy you should check out called Papa what if. It's the cutest, most beautiful thing I've ever heard. My mom listened to Joey and Rory for years before my mom passed away in November of last year. I cannot believe she's been gone almost a whole year. It feels like yesterday. The pain will always be with you when you lose someone.

yes...he did a remake of Daddy What If with his daughter Indy...it is cute....the original was written by Shel Silverstein and was first released by Nina & Frederik in 1966. Bobby Bare released it with his son in 1973

They had a child not too long before she passed away. The little girl was born with downs syndrome. She purposefully distanced herself from the baby so she'd be used to her Daddy taking care of her. It was hard for her but she knew it was best for the baby. Very sad.

As a Christian, we should never ask why. BUT....I loved Joey and all she was. I watched her last days as she slowly faded away. It was so very hard and I questioned God for a very long time. Especially as I followed Rory and their daughter Indiana.(Indy) He was so lost without her and to this day he still wears his wedding ring. There story is one of faith, love and tragedy.

My husband promised me he would play this at my memorial service. My cancer is progressing faster than we thought i pray each day that God will give me one more trip around the sun, always hold the ones you love a little closer because no one is promised another second i thought i had all the time in the world goes to show how wrong i was.. One of the most beautiful yet heartbreaking things I ever heard was how Joey had her husband take over care for their baby when she knew her time to leave was soon - because she didn't want it to be even more difficult for their baby when she was gone. It was so devastating what happened to Joey, they filmed a lovely movie sharing the story if you're feel up to watching.

Song was actually written before she was diagnosed with cancer. Her and her husband Rory appeared on a talent show. I think it was America's Got Talent. They have a few songs out together. One is funny. It"s about catching him cheating. She is buried on their farm. She died a few months after their daughter was born with down syndrome

Thank you for reacting to this, I sponsored this reaction, and I knew you would do it Justice. The woman playing the piano in this video is the woman who wrote it. She wrote it on behalf of her dying mother, and Joey & Rory were so moved that they knew they had to sing it. At first the plan was for Rory to sing the song, but they had an inclination that it was meant for Joey. 2 years after the release of this song, in 2014, Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer, and passed away 2 years later. In 2021 Rory released a new album, recounting all of his emotions in dealing with the loss of his wife. His song “One Angel” from that album has accompanying vocals of Dolly Parton, and takes a real honest look at some of the anger and pain he has been dealing with in the years since Joey passed. I sponsored this song because I actually lost my wife from cancer a few months ago. She was so young, so beautiful, and had so much life left in her. I followed Joey and Rory and they sang so good. They had a little girl with Down Syndrome and she was very little when Joey died. That song came out after she found out she had cancer so it was very sad to hear that after she passed. I believe in God and I know he always has a plan but it just doesn't help when someone so young passes away. I wonder why. She was such a good mom and wife. I felt so bad for Rory. Love your show and God watch over you and your family. I had a hard time listening but her voice is so beautiful but breaks my heart.🌹🌹💔💔😥

This song gets to me every time. They were on a talent show I watched and I pulled for them each time they sang. Cut to a few years later and I was so happy they finally had a child together(he had several children before this union) the little girl was born with Downs Syndrome. They were so happy and then cancer came along and he lost Joey a couple of years later. That baby was only a year or two old and my heart broke for them. I was so sad. TY for highlighting this beautiful song.

Joey and Rory had faith as well they’re Christians. That’s what it was helping them through all of this. He was left with a baby to take care of after she died and he leans heavily on his faith and know he will see her again. That it’s all going to be ok ✝️

I almost lost my wife during childbirth (major hemorrhage) and in the midst of the screaming and the panic of doctors, my wife’s first concern was making sure I was not watching her potential passing. Not wanting me to be scarred by the tragic moment. She pulled through thank god, but the act of kindness and purity in her thoughts during a time that we thought she was not going to make it screamed the love she has for me in her heart more than any other time in our 18 years together.

I'm just going to comment before I watch on TV. This is extra sad because of their story. These are very strong in faith Christian people and one of the most heartbreaking stories we watched unfold. Joey's battle and how full of Grace she stayed. Her fight for Indy. Rory and how strong he was being her number one cheerleader. He's honored her so well in many things but especially how good a father he has been. Other fans, if you haven't seen the song Rory did with Indy, it's so precious! God bless Joey's beautiful soul and keep Rory and Indy near to you. This song wrecks me but I'm going to go watch you react now. So, like this video was made like 2 years before she was diagnosed and subsequently died ... they had no idea. You should definitely watch " To Joey, With Love" it's a self made documentary of the last two Yeats of Joey's life, and you truly can't imagine how she went through all she did with the grace she did. It's totally worth taking the time to watch.

I saw an interview where he said his tears were real in the video, just imagining what losing her would be like…and then a short time later it became his reality. The song is hauntingly achingly beautiful, and I think all us widow/ers can relate personally.

I was teaching eighth grade students who took a little bit before they could understand. It hurt to take their innocence about this when they were struggling so badly anyway. Years later I had so many of these students come to me tell me they were in the military. Each time I cried and held onto my babies and tell them how proud I was of them male and female. Teaching is hellacious but those children made my life worth living!

Thank you for reacting to Joey and Rory. She grew up just a few miles from me and her daughter is named Indiana after our home State. She chose to die here in Indiana. Bill Gaither gave them all a house to stay in her hometown of Alexandria. Her brother died in a tragic car accident several years before Joey died. She wrote a song for him. It's a tear jerker as well. She's gone way too soon!

My Mom passed away unexpectedly July 30, '22. She fell at home and hit her head. She was on blood thinners and bled out in my Dad's arms. She was 71. They were tigether since they were 16. Being with someone for 53 years is incredible. My Dad is still not ok. He misses her so very much. This song is so gut wrenchingly beautiful RIP Linda Marie Swanson RIP Joey Feek

They were such a loving couple, you could see it in the way they looked at each other. When they appeared on a country music talent show, one of the judges, Naomi Judd, asked if they were in love, she saw it too. Also the song "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" was written an performed by Van Morrison as a prayer to God. Later Rod Stewart covered this song and it was a huge hit but the Van Morrison version is so much better.

There is a maybe hour long video on you tube about them. The lady playing the piano wrote the song if im not mistaken. Joey had a special needs baby then found out she had ovarian cancer and lived for i believe 3-4 years. This is shot on their Tennessee farm. They had him sitting on the porch thinking and quietly shot him in his grief before she passed. They are born again Christians and shot to fandom with the song Cheater Cheater and then went back to country and mostly gospel music. They are on quite a few videos on you tube. And they do a song called the bible and the belt. When he climbs the fence early in the morning and it shows a grave that is where she is buried on their farm. She wanted to be closer to her family so they left Nashville but bought a farm and she threw herself into becoming a traditional wife on a farm. She grew a garden had animals, canned. Their daughters name is Indie and she goes to school and is learning and growing. As far as ive read he has not dated or remarried since she passed.

Joey fought a good fight. After her cervical cancer had returned and metastasized to her colon Joey's cancer was terminal, and they stopped all treatment. It was heartbreaking.

Her voice was so beautiful and by all accounts, she was a truly wonderful person. I remember reading after she passed, about a journalist who had interviewed them, a few months after the interview, the journalist was hospitalized (an accident, I think) and they called her and offered her a place to stay while she recovered if she needed it. They sent flowers and called and checked on her daily.

If I remember correctly, she was already fighting the cancer that eventually took her life when they released this. This song always punches me hard. My 1st wife and unborn daughter were murdered. My wife fought on long enough to tell me that I had to be ok and had to find someone who loved me as much as she did... Thankfully 17 years later I finally did find the one who loved me as much.

I lost hubby killed w sheriffs office he was 28 yrs old I was 25 our son was four. Married again we had 2 children and he 2 passed away at 52. I cried watching my oldest talking to his young brothers tellin them it’ll be ok. And it was Over 20 😢years I saw a guy off and on while not married or separated And after 35 yrs he’s my husband not. AND STEPPED UP LIKE A CHAMP WHEN My kids were young and became a dad HE DIDNT HAVE TO BE!! All time love of my life and my kids love him so much and they’re grown and gone now but there isn’t a time either when talking on the phone or in person that they don’t hug us and always always I LOVE YOU!! My heart broke so much for Rory when she passed. I couldn’t imagine the pain. Then my son lost the love of his life a year ago. I never dreamed something could be so painful as to see your son be in so much pain. My daughter-in-love was such an amazing person. Every day is tough without her. These guys were such an awesome couple Rory runs a one room school house on there farm they bought together they have a beautiful love story and July there little girl is downs and such an adorable little girl Rory still does shows on RFD TV they had a couple TV shows ....there great Christians and wore their Christianity like a shining badge watched them every week have tons of cool music from ones like this one 1 about a civil war soldiers letter to home to fun ones like cheater cheater one of my favs is Bible and a belt....love ur channel ❤️🙏🇺🇸

When they recorded this, Joey was healthy and they had no idea what was in their future. Roy said those tears were real because just contemplating a life without Joey tore him up. I can't imagine what it would have done to him if they had known that in a few short years, the song would come true Even though most of us fans already had the song, we bought it again, several times over during Joey's last months. It got nominated for a Grammy. Rory attended the show, but Joey was too sick. Joey knew grief from her younger years. Her brother was killed in an auto accident. She wrote See You There about this incident.

Their story is equal parts beautiful and tragic. They CLEARLY loved one another. The good ones are always taken way too early. She had a wonderful life ahead of her.

This song is a tear jerker for sure. But even more when Rory breaks done in tears. They were real. He knew at this point that cancer was going to take her from him. Rory now is the surviving parent to raise their little girl who has down syndrome

No he didn't know that. She wasn't diagnosed until 3 years after the song/video.

If you get a chance find To Joey, With Love. It was a documentary type show they made. It goes from before their daughter was born through the end of Joey's life. Amazing movie to watch with your wife. Joey and Rory had an amazing love story. Unfortunately they didn't have forever together but he was lucky enough to get to keep a piece of her in their daughter.

Rip joey. She was a beautiful woman. The family was so wonderful. She left a little girl with down syndrome. She had cancer when she was pregnant. Went into recovery then it came back. She was buried in a wooden box on their land under the big tree

This was all filmed where they actually live. In their house, on their farm . They won first music award for this song. She recorded this song just before she was diagnosed for second time with cancer. They are a beautiful couple and he now raises their Down syndrome daughter at the farm.

Don’t waste time wondering what it would be like if your significant other was gone .Time is better spent enjoying and making memories with them . Because when they are gone that’s all you have left . I lost my beautiful husband before our baby even turned one year old . I miss him every day . Now time is spent on what could have been. Thankfully though I get to see glimpses of him through our beautiful son . Cherish LIFE … don’t contemplate death . It comes to all .

Joey and Rory made several videos with Bill Gaither. All great videos. Bill Gaither wrote "HE touched me" Elvis recorded it too.
