The last two days in Jaipur were an absolute blast with the Diwali celebrations and fun filled family time. We made besan laddoo at home, made rangoli, lit lamps and decorated the house. And there was so much food and sweets! My in laws are from Haryana but they live in Jaipur. We travelled from Kerala to be with them as this is the first time we got to spend Diwali with my Indian family in Jaipur. And I also made some cute gifts for the in laws :)

Most Indians have forgotten, but I would salute the mom for remembering that we must always give the first meal(that roti) to the animals at home and then we should eat. We have a doggy at home, my mother gives the 1st roti to him. This has been said in our holy scriptures.

How lovely to partake virtually in your Diwali celebrations as I begin mine for Advent (the four Sundays before Christmas Day starting on November 29) and the Christmas season. I am now in the process of arranging the lighting on the exterior and interior my home, making the lists of staples I will need to prepare festive dishes, and later in December I will enjoy much music and a decorated tree. Due to Covid I may be celebrating as an individual as social gatherings outside our own households are currently discouraged in some parts of Canada and forbidden in others. We'll see how the escalating case numbers unforld. Nevertheless, even though I do not practice a specific religion, I am culturally Christian. Therefore, from my traditions I will create a beautiful and sacred space for myself in which to banish the increasing darkness and welcome the returning light.
@JohannaNorth
@JohannaNorth 3 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way about Christmas, Lynda! I'm not religious at all, and have never followed Christian rituals during the Christmas season, but it's a cultural celebration for me and a family tradition that I always enjoyed, which makes it critically important for me to celebrate now with my own family too and pass on to our future babies! :) Once we return to our home in Kerala, I'll also be starting the Christmas preparations. I'm very excited to share my own favourite Finnish festival with Mommy and Daddy too. So far we've only had a small, low-key celebration every year with Vinod and last year we were unfortunately travelling during Christmas. But I'm looking forward to spending it at home this year and creating my own DIY version for the whole family

Daddy's comment(17.46..) that Sangeetha's saree was the best, was epic. That is why I admire the Jats so much. Their native intelligence is unsurpassed. My best friend whom I consider as my elder brother is a Jat. If Johanna understands why Daddy said that, she has got it made with Vinod for the rest of her life.

You are very true to your self. You are beautifull . Take care of your in-laws. Take care of your nanad. She must not feel that you have taken all attention. And yes Sangeeta is stunning in red attire.

Hi Vinod & Johanna Thanks for the wonderful video of your family and yourself celebrating Diwali . It was nice to see everyone coming together and contributing for the festivities. Right from preparing sweets by Mom, lighting Diyas around your home by you and Sangeeta were done meticulously. Papa giving sweets to everyone was a very loving gesture. You looked very nice in a saree, of course Mom and sister too. Vinod and Papa's clothes were simple but good. Your gift to Mom and Dad was very innovative and I can see you have put in a lot of time and effort. Great. Thanks once again. Bye . Take care. Wishes to all at home. 👍

I’ve read a lot about hindu festivals like Diwali, so I already knew many of the rituals that might be included in the celebrations. But what really matters to me is experiencing Diwali with my family and with the specific traditions my family has, because thats what any festivals and holidays are about in my opinion ☺️ for me even christmas is not a religious celebration, but something that belongs to my culture and is an important family tradition 🥰
