Wow, considering a stock 1025r makes 18 to 20 pto hp(roughly 20% loss through powertrain) 32 pto hp would net about 40hp at the crank. This is truly impressive on only 5lbs of boost! Can't wait to see you test it on real world applications Tim.

@@GoGoggansGo not true, these smaller engines have extremely tight ring gaps, under 13k max clearance, for my kubota engines that i turbo, 15hp stock and with a modified pump i get up around 40hp around 30 psi of boost, i usually have to open the ring clearance about 2x more than stock, for this new of a engine pulling it hard and long it will butt the rings and ruin a sleeve and sometimes can pull a piston apart.

Interesting project. I know I mentioned it previously that M&W Gear used my boat and engine to develope a turbo kit for a marine engine in the late 70's. Chevy marine engine was rated at 255 HP. After the very simple 3psi twin turbo kit was added it produced 310HP. Kit had to be Coast Guard approved. To prevent over revving I had to have my propellers repitched. Performance change was impressive.

What has impressed me the most so far is how well it has all been put together. In theory anyone could cobble together and Frankenstein a Turbo on an engine. But few could put it together so professionally and seemingly so far without compromise. My only suggestion is to run an accurate temp gauge, EGTs can be fine but the overall extra power can tax the cooling system under the right conditions both operational and ambient temperatures. Absolutely cannot wait for the testing to begin!

Most powerful 1025R ever ! I do have a couple of concerns, summer heat under heavy use could that maybe increase those temperatures of the turbo exhaust and is the factory amount of engine oil and even coolant going to be enough for this power upgrade under heavy load. Great video series Tim; I really enjoyed watching the progression and look forward to on going results over time. All manufactures tend to under rate capabilities (tractors, trucks, etc.) of the equipment and even engineer output limitations. I suspect this is for longevity of the equipment, reducing warranty repairs and knowing if they allowed the equipment to operate at or close to its limit that many people would still push it beyond that point and failures would result. I am very curious to see how it performs and holds up over time with someone that I think would show a little restraint in operating and not constantly push it past its limit.

Thats some impressive HP gain. Consider putting a heat shield over the hot side of the turbo so you don't soften that plastic hood. just needs to be a piece of metal about a half inch above the turbo. The heat coming off it when you are working it will damage the plastic, not right away, but eventually it will either dip or crack. That little tractor will do some serious mowing now.

Tim, another great video! I’m sure if someone is going to push Johnny X; it’s you. 32HP at the PTO is awesome for one of these little tractors. I think it’s great you’re using your platform to help another business, and show the manufacturers that a turbo option is truly something people are wanting. I know I’d like to have another 10hp on my Mahindra. Like ya’ll were discussing, I’m pretty sure the engine is going to hold together with 5-8 psi of boost; but between the hydrostatic trans, and diffs; that may be another story. Glad to see you’re putting in the due diligence to do some R&D and not just putting a kit out there….If I was a betting man; and the tractor holds together you’ll probably find yourself wanting to bump it up to 10-15, maybe even 20psi and add a fire ring head gasket and some new head studs before releasing a final kit. Definitely need to see how it does next summer when the ambient temps are a lot higher, just to be safe. Thanks again for taking this on! If it fails; at least you’ll show that a turbo is just too much; but a lot of these tractors have similar displacement at different hp rattlings and I think it’s your driveline and hydraulics that are going to be pushed to the limits and not the engine when it comes to long term reliability! Keep the Johnny X Turbo videos coming! Jon@SBYD!

I would say the best test of it would be the stump grinder. where you are trying to put the maximum load on the pto. But the one thing you must always watch out for is your engine temp. with the added HP will you have enough cooling capacity.

Tim, a good equipment test would be with a chipper. I run a Woodland Mills WC88 on my 2032R. That chipper is rated for over 30-50 PTO Hp and the standard 2032R only has 28 PTO Hp. Where I see torque issues is during startup when it is working to spin up that 200 lb flywheel in chipper. You also can see the weakness when running a bid log through. Similar to when you are using the brush cutter on heavy brush and saplings. .
