John Deere 3025D with Frontier DH1066 disc

Trying out a DH1066 disc with the 3025D. Could probably go with a bigger disc. I pulled this in 2nd gear high range with no problem. This disc is easy to change the gang angles without tools. I am happy with this one so far. I may add some weight to it for some of the areas that I haven’t plowed to see if it helps. The areas with the tall grass layer over needs plowed first.

Well said I’d come in from time to time with updates on my D series 3035 I’m not to happy myself the loader doesn’t dump when a load is on it and the 3 point is not smooth when lifting the 3 point been to two different dealers. Word is THATS JUST HOW IT OPERATES. Anyway good video.

and here I thought it was just me. Feels good slamming a set of discs on the concrete of my new barn despite using 2 hands and all the strength I can muster to move the 3 point as slow as possible.

@@kasken719 I didn’t have much problem on the drop for the 3 point it was the lifting that was the biggest deal. You may need to just adjust your rate of drop knob.

It must be a universal thing for wives to hate the John Deere Place. However she went there without me and spent $5000.

I have a set of DH1066's too, they work great for as light as they are, I just turned out winter rye under with them and they did very good. I almost bought a 3043D a little over a year ago, opted for a 2038R instead, no regrets on my side though a gear tractor was very appealing to me. One observation just trying to be helpful-you should never turn with a ground engaging implement in the dirt, something is going to break at some point, hopefully it's not your 3 point hitch. Btw- I do have a couple of 42 lb suitcase weights on mine, have run it with 4 weights before too, seems to work much better with just a little bit of weight.

Thanks for the feedback. I did notice it working a little bit harder when turning. I will keep that in mind when doing other things with it. Are you talking about putting the weights on the front?

@@rsmstuff3178 No, I have them strapped to the frame right in the center of the implement. Works much better with a little weight.

Now you need a drag harrow or drag mat to smooth everything out.

Congrats, I have been using mine for about 1-1/2 years and have 150 hours on it now and I’m still happy with it.

JD has a DH1166 disc that weighs 660 lbs. Reckon your tractor would do well with that one?

It probably would pull it and it may do a little better being heavier. Once the soil is broken up, may have to set a height with it. With the 1066 and I have it buried to the disc axles it puts a good load on it. If I had one I would definitely try it.

How much of a bigger disc do you think the 3025D can handle? Size and weight if you don’t mind me asking. And how much does the 1066 weigh?

It weighs 445 lbs. As far as how big could it pull effectively I would think that 6’ would be it. Now soil, tire choice, and weight (wheel weights) could affect that. With the soil that I have here and the gangs pitched and the discs buried to the shaft I have had the tires spin a couple times. I am thinking of making a weight to add to the rear gangs at some point.
