Big Tractor Power is out in the field with a 500 hp JOHN DEERE 7400 Forage Harvester chopping corn with a 6 row 686 Kemper head . This video shares the self propelled forage harvesters production history , specifications and original price tag. This video also features a JOHN DEERE 4850 and 6215R tractor shutting forage wagons back to the farm to unload at the silo.

Great video, 35 acers a day with a 6 row corn head done with 4 wagons and 5 people is pretty nice operation....

Those forage harvesters are incredible machines. Small operation but they're efficient.

It’s hard to believe the 7400 is 20 years old. It the first big design change since the 6000 series launched in 1992.

I hope to show the automatic hitches. They are tough to get because they are so fast. Often the switch happens just far enough away it’s hard to capture it.

I think I would still prefer a horizontal silo than climing up one of them.

A bunker is allot easier but a silo takes up allot less land.

We have a 7200 John deere forage and we use it to chop corn silage that we put in to 2 bunkers and for chopping high moisture corn that we bag

Can someone tell me the benefit of having silage ferment vs just freshly chopped?

The fermentation helps the silage store better, without losing quality. Very similar to pickling vegetables to store them for long term.

Corn Silage is rarely fed directly from the field. I have seen some firms supplement feed with corn, freshly chopped because they run out of last year’s. Typically with corn silage you wanted to ferment for 30 to 45 days before you begin feeding it because it dries out all of the nutrients in sugars to create feed for the cows.

Imagine stopping in a middle of harvest. Because the batteries won't let the tractor go any further. It's coming, they're gonna try to take away. Your diesel,😮😮😮😮😮😮 gas operated vehicles and turn them into electric.😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😢😢
