The two tractors have similar hp. I would go bigger around the 300 PLUS hp. Always can use more hp for the new implements that are being made. Like the triple mowers and big square balers. And for the larger tillage and seeding equipment. Just thinking more long term.

Use only Case IH equipment when farming lol ! We use Case IH I'm just messing with ya that was a nice look front wheel assist tractor ! I will say I like the S series Combine that JD makes and they came out with the new 9620 quad which case makes a fantastic 620 quad I say as long as it gets the job done when working ground in the spring for planting or using then in the fall the color don't matter keep up the great job guys ! Here in central Indiana we haven't planted 1 been or 1 kernel of popcorn yet

Not sure if it's already been mentioned but the smaller steering wheel is active command steering. When the tractor is off the steering wheel is free to turn since it is not connected to a hydraulic valve.

Ryan, nice video. I really wish you guys would do a video for anyone thinking about getting into farming. Topics would touch on things like how farming has changed (seems like u need 1000+ acres to make any sort of real money these days), buying equipment and what to look for on used items, an overview of what the year encompasses (primary/secondary tillage to planting to fertilize to harvest and everything in between), quick list of equipment you MUST have, etc. List goes on forever...
@elmcustomharvesting10728 жыл бұрын
the only way you can get into farming these days if your parents have a farm you cannot walk into a bank and ask for two million dollars to start farming doesn't work you cannot walk into John Deere and buy new equipment if you had a thousand acres and paid hundred and $50 land rent. you still barely make it. if the weather doesn't work in your favor you can lose everything.
@Quicksilver2828 жыл бұрын
+Elm custom harvesting Takes some serious stones to be a farmer in my opinion. Dad got out of farming in '85 cuz we didn't have enough land to stay profitable. I wear a tie these days but I watch videos like these cuz I miss the farm 😭

I am from a third world country in South America, we farm 2000+acres doble crop, 2000 acres soybeans in the sumer an 1000 acres corn in the winter and 1000 acres weaht, our biggest tractor is a 7505 brasilian made John Deere whit 140Hp. We also have a 116Hp Valtra and a 103Hp NH. It works fine for us, but a 8R JD is only a dream for me, I don't think I will ever have one!

Business plan to include: 1 yr., 3 yr., 5 yr. to relate to your business goals ; Grain, cattle, Check / CPA for Investment Tax Credits for machine replacement(s) ; Field efficiency layout to max planter / combine widths, reduce turns, multiple tillage tools to reduce passes; Are you still in 6, 8 or 12 row mode? Grain storage, minimize handling, road time, grain cart(s) Forward contracts (like your sense of attainable yields) and match market swings,Use drone to assist with contour layouts / photo mapping technique. Historical info forecasting avg. crop yields, seeds /acre; use as many computer assist planning tools ( U of W; U of IA, etc. Dads knowledge) available. newer planter(s) options more efficient for seed placement, spacing. Upgrade combine. Investigate use of GPS and auto steer. Multiple efficiency ticks may be small, but long term Like the 300 plus hp tractors. Your equipment dealer has plenty of options in their system, but go for system(s) that fulfill your goals, present and 3-5 years.. Return lease units are all over the internet listing. My thoughts on grain trucks, continue contract hauling, less hassle and liabilities. My comments also related to CNC wood products production to match machines to goals. Not to be completely influenced by shiny and new. I really enjoy your videos on How Farms Work and cheering you on for future success of a family farm. I am jealous of you and Travis working with your Dad as grew up on a farm, but life has its swings

The IVT is nice but the hydrostatic whine of it drives me nuts after a bunch of hours in it. It kinda reminds me of the gear whine in the IH '66 series tractors with a cab. Not near as loud but annoying.
@zanegates33768 жыл бұрын
We had a 8260r here over in New Zealand with IVT transmission, with active steer the same as this one you have demoed which explains the smaller steering wheel. use to use it as a stack tractor for silage and ivt had no poke at all for stacking. ILS Indepent Linkage Suspension is good but requires to be greased often if using on rough ground all the time. powershift version would be 10x better. one thing is that the ivt versions of 8r series can come in 50kph gearboxes. not sure what that equals to in mph, cheers
@Sean-if7rp8 жыл бұрын
Could the 8235r not be up graded to the exact specs of the ogre tractor seeing as it has the same computer and engine and all and it would only be minor upgrades that wouldn't affect performance because it would pretty much be factory
@fordman26983 жыл бұрын
So this tractor starts hard too. I just bought an 8260r last spring, and in the winter, we always need jumper cables and Ether to get it going. It is a real nice tractor, but the hard starting issue really bugs my dad. The dealer just says it's a bigger engine, so that's why it starts hard. Personally I think Deere should find a way to use the same starters that are on construction equipment. Their loaders don't have this same issue.

Unfortunately you tested the tractor with low throttle. Need to give it a little more throttle and it will respond better. Especially the steering wheel. But as you probably know by now, the throttle should be all the way forward for IVT.

I don't think that this 8260R will pull more than your 8235R because an IVT transmission is not as efficient as the PowerShift.. on the other hand the IVT is really comfortable to drive.

Or perhaps you guys could get one of the 60 series deeres cuz i think that most of them can handle front loaders. The 80 series and most of the 70 series have too long of hoods to put loaders on.
@jumpingsjaak8 жыл бұрын
So the reason they say not to use IVT for tillage is because its not a 100% machanical transmission en will use a bit more fuel, compaired to the 8235 which is 100% machanically driven. But if you are planting or using the pto a lot, IVT is Ideal, because you can controll engine speed and forward speed cepretly. (talking from experience with these transmissions). IVT is more fuel efficient on the road though.

Get maybe an 8330 or something in the 83 series or even the 85 series. The 8335r is quite nice and u could make ur 82 into an 8335r with a new computer. But what i would say is go for an 83 series.

Yeah, stick with JD. My Uncle got a T8.365 and it is ok, not as nice on the inside though but a lot cheaper. If yo go a bit bigger you could pull a Horsch Joker then throw a 3pont 16 row planter on the old 8r.
@dansneyd46467 жыл бұрын
cvt or ivt definitely sap power compared to a powershift. They are nicer in every other way, but they reckon if you're replacing a powershift with IVT you should get an extra 25% more power. so if you had a 200 hp tractor, you should replace it with a 250.

I can see the benifits of having a bigger tractor. On the other hand is 30 more hp really gonna make a huge difference. Cause if the 8235 struggles some with a 25ft disk, then 30hpmore would probly do alrighteith it. But I don't think it would handle a 30ft. Maybe try going to the smaller 8300. You would just be in the same predicament as your in now. Just my thoughts. I would think 235 would pull a 25ft disk fine. I've pulled a 28ft landool with a 240 hp massey. And it pulled just fine, in clay soil at that. Maybe you should hook it to a dyno and make sure it's putting out what it's suppose to be.
